Chapter 2720: Chapter 2721: Duannian’s Father
"But what’s the problem?" Chushuang, being astute, sensed that Bai Ruozhu was hiding something.
Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment and finally spoke the truth, "Yichun has also awakened the Merfolk Bloodline."
"How is that possible? He clearly wasn’t born with it!" Chushuang exclaimed excitedly.
"He was previously plotted against and struck by the Blood Curse of a Thousand. Unexpectedly, the evil energy activated his Merfolk Bloodline, and an elder has determined he has less than three years left," Bai Ruozhu explained.
Chushuang’s face turned even paler, and she seemed to collapse. If she weren’t lying on the bed, she might have lost her balance and nearly fainted.
"Why is it like this? Why is heaven so cruel?" she muttered, before regaining her composure, "I’ll find a way to save him. I will find a way."
Mano’s expression changed slightly, "You don’t mean to..."
Her voice halted, worriedly saying, "You can’t take any more flesh, or you’ll die!"
"I know, but I’ll think of another way, besides, I should have died in the first place," Chushuang said somewhat absent-mindedly, yet Bai Ruozhu’s heart ached immensely.
She lowered her voice and quickly said, "Don’t worry. I saw the white dragon that curses the Merfolk; it said that if we retrieve the Dragon Ball, it can undo the curse on the Merfolk."
"You won’t find the Dragon Ball. I’ve tried for so many years and couldn’t locate it. Even if you kill all the elders, it’s unlikely you’ll find out where it is," Chushuang shook her head slightly but struggled.
"I’ll think of something, and I’ll ensure that the suffering you endured will be avenged," Bai Ruozhu said.
"Good child, you should go back now. Don’t let them discover you, and remember the promise you made to me not to tell that father and son that I’m still alive," Chushuang said with difficulty.
Bai Ruozhu’s eyes grew hot again, and she nodded vigorously, "I remember."
In a daze, she was brought out of the Barrier by Mano, not knowing how she returned to the bamboo house.
"Ruozhu, how did the discussion with them go?" Jiang Yichun came forward to ask.
Bai Ruozhu suppressed the turmoil in her heart and said, "It went well. We exchanged some information, but they also don’t know where the Dragon Ball is hidden."
"We learned something too. From Duannian’s birth father’s account, some things came to light," Jiang Yichun added, "Years ago, Duannian’s parents abandoned him on the tribe’s orders, and the tribe rewarded them with a piece of Longevity Flesh. Duannian’s mother gave it to his father to eat and later committed suicide by crashing into a barrier."
"His mother committed suicide?" Bai Ruozhu was a bit surprised.
"Yes, apparently she couldn’t let go of Duannian, feeling utterly guilty towards her son," Jiang Yichun said, "Now Duannian is deeply troubled. He’s hated his parents for more than a decade, yet never imagined his mother would commit suicide for him."
Bai Ruozhu sighed. If she were Duannian, her emotions would also be complex.
"Moreover, Duannian’s father confessed another thing," Jiang Yichun continued.
"The Merfolk elder used him for experiments, drugging him to have relations with another female Merfolk until she got pregnant. Later, she gave birth, but he couldn’t find out the child’s condition and never saw that woman again. He suspects the great elder keeps him alive to continue studying him."
Bai Ruozhu’s mind shifted, "Could it be he fathered another child with a fish tail?"
"Uncertain. The elders wouldn’t care about the lives of ordinary Merfolk, but one time he got drunk and wandered to the beach on the west side, nearly drowning in the sea, yet was saved by the third elder’s men. With nothing to look forward to in life, he later attempted suicide a few times, but was mysteriously stopped each try."
Mentioning the elders, Bai Ruozhu’s eyes burned red with hatred; she wanted to kill those elders!
"Gather the horsemen. Tomorrow night, I will take the head of the great elder," she said through gritted teeth.
"No!" Jiang Yichun quickly stopped her, "Why are you so impulsive? The elders possess deep strength, who knows what hidden power they have. We might all be lost if you proceed."
Bai Ruozhu was instantly livid, "Afraid of this, afraid of that, then do nothing! They have their foundations, but don’t we have our trump cards? I must kill an elder to relieve this hatred."
"Ruozhu, what’s wrong? What did the people from Yuchen Palace say to you?" Jiang Yichun asked.
Bai Ruozhu took several deep breaths, "Let’s not talk about this. I just can’t stand them any longer."
There was a knock at the door. Bai Ruozhu let the person in, and it was Duannian.
"Ruozhu, I want to ask you for some medicine, something that can end a person’s life without them feeling pain," Duannian said as soon as he entered the room.
Bai Ruozhu was somewhat surprised, "How much do you need?"
"Not much, I just feel that my father might be in pain too, better to help him find relief," Duannian replied through gritted teeth.
"Duannian, if you kill him, won’t you have a shadow in your heart later?" Bai Ruozhu asked.
Duannian gave a bitter smile, "Him being alive is the most terrifying thing in my heart."
Bai Ruozhu focused her thoughts, found a small bottle of pills from Space, and tossed it to Duannian.
"Be careful, don’t let anyone discover it," she instructed.
After Duannian left, Bai Ruozhu sighed towards Jiang Yichun; whose sin was this?
Parting with Jiang Yichun, Bai Ruozhu returned to her room, but tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Once Fo Lanying was in deep sleep, she quietly slipped out.
Thinking of the critically ill Chushuang, she couldn’t swallow her anger.
She avoided the guards and scouts, sneaking towards the Main Hall.
The entrance to the Main Hall had many guards; getting in without alerting anyone was too difficult.
Bai Ruozhu hid in Space, pondering, finally maneuvering to the back, flipping onto the roof.
She then found a place with tiles, lifted a tile for observation.
No one was below, but that wouldn’t affect her plan.
She poured a large amount of Poison inside, replaced the tile, and sneaked back to her room.
Feeling conflicted, she couldn’t sleep and ended up soaking in the Hot Spring in Space to relieve fatigue.
If she brought Chushuang into Space, would soaking in the Spatial Hot Spring help? Maybe the Spatial Hot Spring could indeed regenerate the living and bring flesh to bone.
But Chushuang’s life was sustained by a barrier she didn’t know how to break; she feared that breaking it might end Chushuang’s life immediately.
It would be great if someone familiar with barriers could offer her some advice.
...
Outside the Merfolk Island, a pale figure stood with hands behind his back. Upon closer look, he stood on the sea surface, without a fishing boat, and no target, yet stood steadily on the water.
It was a pity nobody saw this scene deep in the night.
Feng Cheng smiled, the corners of his lips curved up, "Finally found you."
He waved his sleeve, the mist before him dissipated a bit, then his entire being drifted away, appearing slow in movement, yet vanished without a trace.
