Chapter 432: Chapter 425: ’The Harem Meddling in Politics,’ Aren’t You Afraid Others Will Be Dissatisfied?
Before returning to the film set, Clara Grant had Seth Quinn make a special trip to a phone store. She bought a new phone, identical to the one of Sandra’s she had broken.
In the car, Seth Quinn noticed her putting the new phone into her bag. It didn’t seem like she intended to use it herself.
He asked, "What’s this? You’re not using it yourself? Who’s it for?"
Clara Grant smiled helplessly. "It’s not a gift. It’s a replacement."
Seth Quinn raised an eyebrow. "What happened?"
"It’s nothing. A few days ago on set, I accidentally knocked Sandra’s phone into the water. So naturally, I have to buy her a new one to replace it."
"She’s giving you trouble again?" That was Seth Quinn’s immediate assumption.
"No, this time it was a genuine accident." Clara Grant smiled, telling him a white lie.
’First, explaining the incident would be complicated, since it involved her falling into Miles’s arms, and she didn’t want Seth to get the wrong idea again. Second, she didn’t want him to go after Sandra on her behalf.’
"That’s good, then." Seth Quinn believed her.
After a moment of silence, Clara Grant looked at him and spoke again. "Seth, how about you save a good role for Sandra in the next production?"
Seth Quinn didn’t answer. He just gave her a deep look before turning his attention back to the road, driving carefully. "Why?"
Clara Grant lowered her gaze. "I don’t want to keep fighting with her over these misunderstandings. We’re on the same set, seeing each other all the time. All this fighting is pointless. Besides, I did, in a way, take the role of Tina from her. So if I took one role, it’s only fair that I give one back."
"But," Seth Quinn began, deliberating, "do you think she’ll appreciate the gesture?"
"I’m not doing it for her gratitude; I just want to resolve the conflict between us. The reason she hates me is because of the role of Tina, right? So if I give her an even better role, she shouldn’t be angry anymore, should she?"
Seth Quinn was noncommittal. After two seconds of silence, he said, "You don’t have to go to all that trouble. You’re the esteemed wife of Aegis’s president. If you don’t like someone, you can just terminate their contract, permanently shelve them, or blacklist them."
Clara Grant deliberately widened her eyes in mock surprise. "Oh, so the president’s wife has that much power? But aren’t you afraid people will complain about ’harem politics’?"
"Ancient stories tell of the King who lit the signal fires just to make his favorite consort smile, and of General Wayland, who flew into a rage for the sake of his beloved. All I’m doing is letting you exercise a tiny bit of your privilege. Who would dare say a word against it?" Seth Quinn said with a dismissive lift of his eyebrow.
Clara Grant smiled, then her expression turned serious again. "I don’t want to exercise any special privileges, and I certainly don’t want to ruin Sandra’s career just like that. First I take her role, and then she gets blacklisted forever? That would be too harsh. If that happened, she’d undoubtedly hate me for the rest of her life, and I don’t like the feeling of someone hating me forever."
"So what kind of role are you thinking of giving her to resolve this conflict? The female lead?"
"The female lead is obviously out of the question. Her fame isn’t quite there, and her acting isn’t good enough. But a better supporting role should be possible." Clara Grant turned to face him, continuing in a very serious tone, "If I can secure the rights to *You Are My Eternal Love*, will you let me pick a role in it for Sandra? Is that okay?"
Seeing how serious and determined she was, Seth Quinn knew she had made up her mind. He nodded. "Alright."
"Really?"
"Of course," Seth Quinn replied with a slight smile, seeing her doubt. "Trading one role to get her off your back and give you peace of mind... that’s a bargain."
