Chapter 429: Chapter 422: She Must Endure for Sarah’s Sake
"Autumn, what’s wrong with you? Just tell me what’s going on. Don’t be like this. You’re scaring me."
But Autumn Shelby shoved her away and proceeded to throw every piece of clothing from the closet onto the floor, only stopping when she was completely exhausted.
Seeing her finally stop, Yvette Zimmerman quickly helped her sit on the bed. She soothed her by rubbing her back. "Autumn, don’t panic. No matter what happened, don’t panic. Mom’s here, okay? Mom’s here."
She was terrified that the stress would cause her daughter to have another episode.
Autumn Shelby turned to face Yvette Zimmerman. "Mom, did you know? Seth Quinn didn’t break up with Clara Grant. In fact, they’ve been married for a long time. They’re married!"
"What? Married?" Yvette Zimmerman was also stunned. "H-how is that possible?"
"Why wouldn’t it be? Aunt Quinn told me herself. It was a secret marriage, but it’s real. They officially registered it."
"Then... even if they are married, now that Clara Grant’s background has been exposed, Seth Quinn should divorce her, right? After all, her origins are so sordid..."
"Hah! But Seth doesn’t care about that at all! He absolutely refuses to divorce her! Ha, hahaha! A woman like Clara Grant, and he doesn’t mind in the slightest! So what do I lack? What’s the difference between me and that cheap bitch Clara Grant? Why couldn’t I win his heart after more than twenty years, while that bitch got it in just a month or two?"
The expression on Autumn Shelby’s face was both desolate and vicious. Her eyes were wild and dark, her tone bleak and sinister.
Yvette Zimmerman hadn’t expected this either. ’It seems Seth Quinn really does love that Clara Grant. Otherwise, why would he completely disregard the negative impact her background would have on him?’
"Then... then what should we do?"
"What should we do? Of course I won’t admit defeat. I won’t give up. I will make Clara Grant disappear from Seth Quinn’s side!" Autumn Shelby practically spat the words through clenched teeth.
Just as Yvette Zimmerman was about to say something, a soft knock came from the door. She turned and saw Cherie Rhodes standing in the open doorway.
Yvette Zimmerman stood up and asked with a frown, "What are you doing here?"
Cherie Rhodes had heard the commotion and thought she would come out to see what was happening. Now, looking at the mess all over the floor and the expressions on Yvette Zimmerman’s and Autumn Shelby’s faces, she realized she had made a mistake. ’I should have stayed in my room and pretended I didn’t hear anything.’
But she couldn’t just turn and leave now. She could only say hesitantly, "Ma’am, I heard the commotion and thought I’d come see what was going on..."
Before the words were even out of her mouth, Autumn Shelby bent down, randomly picked up a bottle from the floor, and hurled it at her.
Autumn Shelby’s action was so swift and sudden that no one had time to react, including Cherie Rhodes. She didn’t even have time to dodge before the bottle hit her squarely on the forehead, then fell to the floor and shattered.
The glass bottle was large and hard, and the impact was forceful. Cherie Rhodes felt dizzy from the blow and staggered backward, barely managing to steady herself by grabbing the doorframe in time.
Yvette Zimmerman was stunned for a moment but quickly regained her composure.
Autumn Shelby also seemed surprised by her own accuracy. She froze for a second, but then sneered, "Hmph. You wanted to come laugh at my expense, didn’t you? Do you even have the right? You should think about your own status—a worthless nobody with no standing!"
A sharp, fierce look flashed in Cherie Rhodes’s eyes, but it vanished in an instant. ’I can’t have a complete falling out with them. For Sarah’s sake, I have to endure this.’
