Chapter 1243: Chapter 1243: Striking Up a Conversation

Mu Yan was unfamiliar with most foreign celebrities, but she maintained the appropriate courtesy.

The handsome guy’s name was Cruise, and he spoke Chinese, openly praising Mu Yan’s beauty.

Mu Yan smiled slightly, saying that he was also very handsome.

Cruise seemed very happy and started chatting with her about movies, praising her acting and claiming to be a fan of hers.

Mu Yan didn’t like the way he looked at her, though she felt he meant no harm.

But as a married woman, she didn’t need any affection from other men.

So, her words gradually became fewer, and she replaced conversations with smiles whenever possible.

However, Cruise didn’t seem to notice her perfunctory responses and continued chatting enthusiastically, even inviting her to have a drink at a bar that evening.

Bars were places where serendipitous encounters or "one-night stands" often happened. They were more open abroad compared to back home, and people didn’t think much of it.

Mu Yan directly refused, but Cruise seemed a bit reluctant.

"This must be your first time in Cannes, right? It would be a shame not to admire the night view here or enjoy a few drinks. I would love to have an unforgettable night with a beautiful woman like you."

Mu Yan thought to herself that she was really just there to attend a film festival and had no intention of doing anything outside of her marriage.

She smiled slightly, "My husband would be jealous if he knew."

Upon hearing this, a hint of regret appeared on Cruise’s face, and he left with his glass in hand.

Mu Yan breathed a sigh of relief; if she had known this would work, she would have said it sooner.

She picked up a glass of juice and turned to leave, but unexpectedly bumped into someone, spilling juice on herself.

She quickly said, "Sorry, are you okay?"

The other party was an elegant and charming woman, around forty years old, with fair skin. Her red dress looked especially graceful, and the scarf around her neck and the hat on her head added a touch of European elegance and nobility. Judging by her features and hair color, her ancestors were likely from Asia.

The woman smiled slightly upon seeing Mu Yan, "I should be the one apologizing; I bumped into you."

Her voice was somewhat hoarse, but her expression was gentle, easily endearing to others at first sight, possibly also because she spoke Chinese.

Mu Yan felt relieved, yet she still asked, "What about your clothes?"

"It’s fine; I have a spare," the woman replied with a smile.

She looked at Mu Yan and suddenly asked, "Are you an actress too? You seem familiar, like I’ve seen you somewhere before."

Mu Yan answered, "Yes, I’m an actress, invited to attend this film festival."

"May I know your name?"

After exchanging names, Mu Yan learned that the woman’s last name was Kong, descending from an esteemed lineage of an ancient Chinese sage.

However, she felt that this surname appeared quite frequently, as if someone else she knew also had this surname before.

"No wonder you look familiar; I’ve seen your films, they’re excellent. Are you nominated this time?"

For some reason, Mu Yan felt that the woman looked very familiar. Her face was unfamiliar, but her eyes seemed to hold a connection to her heart.

She replied, "I’m nominated for Best Actress, but I haven’t been acting for long, so it’s probably not easy to win."

Kong Li Zhen smiled slightly, "Just being nominated proves you’re remarkable; there are only a few nominees, so you have a good chance."

Mu Yan could sense her goodwill, nodding as she said, "Thank you."

They chatted for a while longer before Chen Zhou’s assistants called for her. Mu Yan bid farewell to Kong Li Zhen and hurried away.

Kong Li Zhen watched her departing figure, slowly clenching her hand, a light flickering in her eyes, and she suddenly smiled.
