Chapter 112: The Great One Ikuku
While Nicholas’ actions were a bit excessive, that was perhaps the only way they could get her to tell the truth.
She wasn’t the type to use intimidation to get answers from a suspect, but she had seen it work more than once.
And she could tell it was the fastest way to get things done.
’...What can I say? This brat must’ve influenced me.’ she thought with a smirk as she stared at Amara.
She saw the shift in Amara’s expression the moment their eyes met. It wasn’t just Amara; the other Nigerians had also lost the confidence they’d shown moments ago.
They could tell, standing against Nicholas and the others no longer seemed like a wise decision.
Even so, Amara held Selena’s gaze, unwavering despite the pressure closing in around her. Nicholas had already released her from his grip, allowing her to breathe.
She fell to her knees and clutched her throat, greedily dragging in mouthfuls of air. Her eyes remained fixed on Selena and Nicholas with fear, yet she still didn’t say a word.
"She has already denied your accusations. Why are you still holding her?" one of the Russian heroes asked, staring at Selena.
"Alright then, we’ll take her word for it. But only if she can confirm her ability. If she wants us to clear her name, she’ll have to show us her ability so we can verify it." Selena turned to Nicholas. "Phantom, please allow her to use it."
Nicholas nodded calmly as he turned off the void ability.
Instantly, everyone felt their abilities return.
’So he was truly the one who had that ability?’ Furry thought as she felt her ability return.
Nicholas’ gaze remained fixated on Amara, "Use your abilities"
’I’d covered my tracks perfectly... so how did he find me? He saw the curse mark. He could teleport. He was unbelievably fast... and he could even nullify other people’s abilities.
Wait...
No... don’t tell me.....’ Her eyes shook with fear as she looked at Nicholas, a memory flashing in her mind.
Never for once had she felt so scared of one individual, ’The Ancient God... He has to be the one in the Prophecy. The one our ancestors spoke of... the god from another world... the one destined to save us from the calamity to come.’ Amara thought, fear gripping her soul from within.
To have offended a god. The ancestors of her land would punish her greatly.
"Great one.... Ikuku, please forgive my insolence. I was the one who placed a curse on you and your subordinate." Amara said, "Please do not send down the wrath of our ancestors on me" Amara said bowing her head low.
Nicholas raised a brow in confusion, even Selena looked at the lady in sheer confusion.
"What do you mean Amara? He is Ikuku?" Tank asked, his eyes widening with fear and reverence.
Amara stood up silently from the ground as she turned to her teammates, "He... he is Ikuku."
"My goodness! Lord Ikuku, please forgive our ignorance" all the others went into a deep bow for Nicholas.
All the others in the room stood in confusion, wondering how the scenario had changed so drastically.
Nicholas was just as dumbstruck as the rest.
But the awkward silence was soon shattered by Dana, "You have admitted to your wrong doings and you’ll be punished accordingly. For your actions, Team Nigeria has been disqualified from the tournament and banned from participating in the convention for the next five years."
Amara didn’t seem bothered with Dana as she turned back to Nicholas her eyes filled with reverence and fear as she knelt before him.
"We care not for the rules of this world. We worry for the tribulations that our actions would bring upon us and our people. Great one, please grant us your words. We plead your forgiveness, do not send our ancestors upon us"
Nicholas scratched his head in confusion, Julie who stood by the side couldn’t help but let out a laugh, but she quickly swallowed her laughter as she noticed the gaze of everyone on her.
"Great one, please grant us your words" Tank added, with a pleading bow, all the others joined them as they knelt before Nicholas.
"Just say that you forgive them, this is getting really weird" Selena whispered into Nicholas ears with a sligjt chuckle.
Nicholas paused for a moment, "I don’t care, you can ask her" Nicholas said casually pointing towards Selena.
"Huh?!" Selena jolted about to yell at him but before she could open her mouth Nicholas already disappeared from the room.
"Huh? Is she the one? The wife of the Great one?" Tank asked from the side.
Amara looked at Selena for a moment, "Indeed, she is... The only one worthy to speak on behalf of the Great One. The goddess herself" Amara said, her eyes lighting up with admiration as she looked at Selena.
All the Nigerians turned towards her bowing down in deep respect.
Dana chuckled from the side, "Well, you’ve got yourself a husband and followers now."
Selena’s face lit red like a tomato, a mix of annoyance and embarrassment, ’Nicholas! That brat! Just when I thought I was finally getting along with him. I’ll kill him!’
----
*Achoo!*
Nicholas sneezed, "That ability is a really messed up one." Nicholas thought as he looked down at his drenched clothes.
He was still covered in stains and food crumbs that had spilled onto him when he entered the cafeteria.
He was really annoyed that he’d had to go through all that just to prove a point.
But now he’d dealt with that and left the rest to Selena to handle. As his supervisor, that was, after all, part of her job.
For now, he had to take a nice warm bath.
’Maybe I’ll go down later to get lunch. But before that..’ Nicholas looked at the system screen with a strange face as he was seeing a strange notification for the first time, ’What the heck is this?’
