Chapter 109: Finding The Culprit 1
Nicholas stood, staring at the horseshoe mark hovering above his hands.
’At what point did it appear? Who did I touch?’ Questions spiralled through his mind one after another.
He made sure to be careful with every interaction he’d made within the past couple minutes. He didn’t just shake or touch anyone without using the third eye to confirm.
Surely, before someone used their ability, Third Eye would notice something.
Or perhaps he was wrong with that assumption.
"What do you mean? How did that happen? Was it the Brazilian Hero?" Selena asked, her face turning into a deep frown.
"No it wasn’t, the mark appeared even before he helped me up" Nicholas replied, his gaze distant as his thoughts swirled through countless possibilities.
"What are you two talking about? What mark?" Julie asked turning to the two of them. Selena explained the situation to her while Nicholas was lost in his thoughts.
His mind retracing every movement he’d taken within the past couple minutes.
He’d helped Julie with the ball, spoken to the Australians, and then rescued Julie.
In all those events....
’The only people I interacted with were Australians... Could it be that they’re the ones behind this?’ Nicholas thought with a frown.
"Then who do you think might’ve done it?" Selena asked.
"The ability didn’t activate immediately I came in contact with whomever had it... So it’s hard to tell, but I feel it’s the Aussies." Nicholas said with certainty.
"That can’t be right. We already have information on the abilities of Furry and Mercury, while it might not be full details. I’m certain those two don’t have anything related to a curse ability."
Nicholas brows furrowed at Selena’s reply, his mind went back and he could remember the last contact he’d got, "Jackson"
Selena paused for a moment, "I don’t think it could be him. Supervisors can’t awaken, at least not under normal circumstances...."
’I was wondering why she could always stand the maisma without getting affected by the plague... Is there something that they do to the supervisors?’
The thought crossed his mind for a brief second, but he didn’t dwell on it much.
Right now, his eyes were fixed on the mark on his hands. The dark energy curling around the horseshoe was pulsing with energy.
"A curse ability is a crazy one... If I had abilities like that, I’d curse everyone to watch my stream forever!" Julie said with a low cackle as her imaginations took her to another world.
Both Nicholas’s and Selena’s eyes lit up as they heard Julie’s words.
"That’s the smartest thing you’ve said since I’ve known you" Nicholas muttered.
"I know right?" Julie said flinging her hair back stylishly, "Wait what?! Is that a compliment?"
Nicholas let out a soft sigh.
"That’s right, a curse ability user doesn’t necessarily need to have a physical contact with you to inflict a curse. Although with physical contact, the curse is stronger, but with indirect contact, it’s weaker." Selena said with a thoughtful gaze.
"That’s probably why the mark I have now is smaller than Catboys" Nicholas added seeing the mark on his hands.
"You have to be careful though, even if the curse isn’t as strong it will still make things hard for you." Selena warned, "... Also, if that’s the case, then the cursed item might be something you touched" Selena said.
"Like the beach ball... Julie, who threw the ball at me?"
Julie smiled wryly, "I was the one who threw the ball"
Nicholas and Selena stared blankly at her.
"Guys! We’re heading out for lunch! Do you plan to stay here all day?" Dana’s loud voice interrupted.
She stood by the door, waving at them to join her.
"We should get going, staying here won’t help us. We won’t find any clues whatsoever"
Nicholas let out a sigh as he took a casual step forward. Just then, his feet suddenly slipped out from under him.
His body tilted forward and the next second, he saw his face falling head first towards the tiled ground by the pool area.
"Careful!" Selena rushed in to help.
Right before he could fall, Selena caught onto him, "The curse is still active, don’t just walk around casually" Selena said, but she couldn’t find the face she was talking to.
Instead, she felt warm breath pouring between her cleavage.
"Thanks..." Nicholas’ muffled voice came from the middle of her chest.
Red crawled up from her neck all the way to her forehead.
"Don’t talk there!" Selena yelled as she pushed him back, Nicholas stumbled back falling on his butt.
"Ouch, no one asked you to catch me" Nicholas said with a sigh.
Selena’s face was still beet red as she looked at him with a flash of annoyance in her eyes, "Be careful so you don’t fall again. The curse can be tricky at times" She said letting out a soft sigh as she walked over to help him up.
Dana stood waiting for the three by the door, giggling mischievously as she saw them coming.
"You see, coming for the pool hangout was fun" she said looking at Selena.
"Shut up! It was a mistake" Selena yelled back.
"Yeah yeah" Dana said waving her hand with a smirk as she walked ahead of the group.
Selena let out a soft sigh as they walked down the hallway, "At least now we know the person we’re dealing with has a curse ability, and they can use both direct and indirect methods to mark someone"
Nicholas didn’t let his eyes off the mark, ’Judging from the influence of the mark on me and what it did to Catboy, it seems Catboy must’ve had a direct contact with whoever placed the mark on him’
For context, he noticed the dark energy from the horseshoe only managed to make him trip.
But for Catboy, the energy was so dense that it caused his bones to break so there was a large margin between the effects it had on the two.
’Knowing him, if he were to interact with anyone.. it would most probably have been a girl.’ Nicholas couldn’t help but be thankful that Catboy was a perverted duck.
"Julie, did anyone at all join you guys when you played the beach ball?"
"Of course, some people from outside joined in but like I said, I was the one who mistakenly threw the ball at you... Someone did try to catch it before it landed outside, but didn’t manage to"
Nicholas frowned, "Catboy’s Mark was much bigger than mine, I suspect he’d interacted with whomever marked him before coming here today..."
"If that’s the case then our target might be a lady knowing him" Selena said.
"A lady?!" Julie yelled, "If that’s the case.... I think I know who our culprit might be."
Selena and Nicholas looked at Julie with an uncertain expression, they knew her to be the playful and often type stupid one. So trusting her judgment was a gamble.
Seeing the serious expression on Julie’s face though, it was hard to tell if she was joking right now, or being serious about it.
"Who is it?"
Julie paused for a moment, "I don’t remember clearly but I was taking pictures around the time when I saw him with her. I think she was from... what country was it again...?" She thought, rubbing her chin.
"Right! I remember now! She’s from..."
