Chapter 105: The Best Of The Two Worlds
Nicholas’ eyes scanned through the long list of abilities.
{Third Eye: Hero Trion}
{Skill description: Allows the user to perceive things beyond ordinary sight, revealing hidden presences, concealed objects, invisible traces, and other phenomena that cannot normally be seen.}
It looked like a rather basic skill, but in a world with thousands of heroes, there were bound to be abilities that ordinary eyes simply couldn’t perceive.
"With this I might be able to tell what Tianzun’s ability actually is ....And also, in a tournament where everyone wants to win, it’s highly unlikely that there wouldn’t be minor attempts at cheating," Nicholas thought as he looked at the skill.
With that skill, he was confident he’d be able to trace any foul play back to its source and deal with whoever was responsible.

Nicholas picked up the phone and answered upon seeing Selena’s info.
"Hey, are you going to come out for the pool hangout? I was hoping you would, since we could use the opportunity to interact with our teammates for the tournament."
Nicholas paused for a moment. He didn’t really have anything else planned, and since he’d only come to the convention to help wherever he could, there wasn’t much reason to refuse.
"It’s not like I’ll be doing anything if I stay here," Nicholas thought before replying to Selena.
"Awesome. I’ve called the others already. Meet us at the pool. I’m already on my way there," Selena replied as she cut the call.
Nicholas let out a deep breath. He put on some casual clothing and walked out of the room, wearing dark shades to cover his eyes.
As he walked down the hallway, Nicholas couldn’t help but think back on everything that had happened since arriving in this new world.
Initially, he wanted to live a normal life away from all the fighting and blood that his past life had to offer, but coincidentally, that dream was crushed in an instant.
Ever since then, everything had unfolded one event after another—from his awakening to his first mission, and then every incident that followed.
"It’s been rather fun, if I’m to say," he thought. Not only was he going on thrilling missions here, different from his past life, but he also had a family to care about, and then the supervisor who seemed to always be annoyed with him but still liked him.
Then there was Julie, whose passion for becoming the world’s greatest streamer bordered on obsession. Nicholas sometimes felt that if selling him would help her achieve that dream, she’d probably do it without hesitation.
Eric was also worth mentioning, and Dana too.
And of course at the peak of all, Katie and Marina.
Sadly, ever since joining the Association, missions had kept him constantly occupied.
"...But now, I’ve got my own place and Katie’s in school. I should take some time off after this and maybe hang out with them a bit," the thought made a smile climb up his face.
In just four months, his life had changed more than it ever had in his previous one.
"I guess this was truly a second chance," Nicholas thought.
He never truly had people he could call his own back in his past life.
Life had dealt him a terrible hand from the very beginning. He’d grown up in an orphanage that barely had enough to feed all the children, though Miss Kirby had always done everything she could.
If there was anyone he could say he was close to, it was probably Miss Kirby. Although she never really spent that much time with him.
And she loved all the kids in the orphanage equally. She was more like a caretaker, and they only saw her on some days of the week.
He could remember how they went on the streets begging. How his stomach would grumble, and people would pass by, throwing food into dumpsters while he begged for even bare scraps.
That was the day he made a promise to himself.
"I’ll never be poor." Even now, the thought rang in his head like a constant reminder.
And the day came when his life finally took a turn around. They were almost kidnapped... or rather, he was.
He could remember vividly how he fought fiercely with the people who wanted to take them away.
Despite his scrawny figure and weak body, he didn’t know how he managed to muster enough strength to even stand up against those men.
Maybe it was nothing more than desperation... and the will to fight.
But at the end, they’d left the others and taken only him, and that was how he was raised by a group of assassins and bandits who thrived on blood and death.
Everyone was cold and detached, so naturally, he’d also taken on a bit of those traits from them. He was trained and became a force to be reckoned with in the Association, climbing the ranks quickly.
After that kind of upbringing, loyalty was never something he understood. So when the government offered him enough money to wipe out the very Association that had raised him, he accepted without hesitation.
He always sent money back to Miss Kirby since she did her best for them while they were kids, and he wanted better for the orphanage.
He was all alone and had no one to call a friend or family. Trusting another hitman was like handing a dagger to a stranger.
He, for one, knew that.
This life, in general, was a new experience that he’d really enjoyed.
The elevator pod finally reached the pool area, and through the glass pod, he could make out Julie’s figure and Selena’s figure.
"I guess I could say it’s because of them," he thought with a smile.
For once, he’d truly appreciated all those he met in his new life.
They laughed. They argued. They complained. They trusted each other. They weren’t anything like the assassins he’d grown up around.
Before he knew it, he’d already reached the pool.
His thoughts only came to an end when a familiar voice shattered them.
"Phantom! What are you doing standing there?! Come join us! Wooo!" Julie yelled as she jumped straight into the pool, sending water flying in every direction.
Nicholas felt his ears tingle.
"Such a noisemaker..." he thought, but it wasn’t out of annoyance. A faint smile tugged at his lips.
