Chapter 417: Chapter 417: The Chaos Inside the Fortress (2)

Just as he was about to ask Sergeant Zhang Wei for more details—

BOOOM!

BOOOM!

BOOOM!

A series of massive explosions suddenly erupted from both the outer city and the direction of the inner fortress.

The ground shook violently as pillars of black and crimson flames shot into the sky.

The shockwaves were so powerful that even Li Feng felt them clearly.

"What?!"

Sergeant Zhang Wei’s face turned deathly pale as he turned toward the inner city, where a huge plume of black smoke was rising.

"Those explosions... they came from the inner city’s defensive towers and the central command area!"

After his words, suddenly, screams and chaotic shouts intensified across the entire border fortress.

More buildings collapsed in the outer city as the infected horde grew even more frenzied, as if the explosions had driven them into a greater bloodlust.

Li Feng’s frown deepened as he saw another massive wave of infected surging toward their position from the burning streets. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Their numbers were overwhelming... hundreds, perhaps thousands moving like a mindless tide of death.

He realized immediately that he couldn’t just leave to investigate the source of those explosions.

If he abandoned these soldiers and civilians now, they would be overrun within minutes.

’Damn it... I can’t abandon them.’

Just as he was about to act, a powerful wave of cold energy erupted from above him.

CRACKLE—!

A gigantic wall of ice suddenly rose from the ground with a thunderous sound, stretching across the entire street like a crystalline barrier.

The ice wall was thick and reinforced with powerful spiritual energy, shimmering with a cold blue light.

It towered over ten meters high and extended for nearly a hundred meters, completely blocking the path of the incoming infected horde.

Seeing this, Li Feng smiled and looked up and saw two beautiful women were slowly floating down toward them.

Yue Lan landed gracefully a short distance behind him, her golden eyes glowing faintly as she held her ice jade sword.

Her expression was calm and focused as she stared at the ice wall.

BANG!

BANG!

BANG!

The infected slammed into the ice wall like waves crashing against a cliff.

Some tried to climb it, but the surface was impossibly smooth and freezing cold.

Their claws shattered against the reinforced ice as they let out frustrated shrieks.

Lan Suyao landed gracefully beside Li Feng, her City Lord robes fluttering.

Her face was cold and decisive.

"Go," she said firmly. "Check the inner city. The explosions came from the central command area. Yue Lan and I will hold the line here and protect these people."

Hearing this, Li Feng looked at her, then at Yue Lan, hesitation flashing across his face for a brief moment.

"Are you sure? There are too many of them—"

"We’ll be fine," Lan Suyao cut him off. "I hate to admit it, but... you’re faster and stronger in direct combat. If there’s a mastermind behind this, they’re likely in the inner city, so go and check the situation and we’ll handle the situation in the outer district."

Yue Lan nodded quietly, already channeling more ice energy to reinforce the wall as cracks began to form from the relentless pounding of the infected.

Seeing his still worried look, Lan Suyao smiled and crossed her arms.

"I think you’ve misunderstood something..."

With a casual, graceful movement, she drew her sharp sword and swung it horizontally.

SLASH!

A brilliant arc of sword blue light flashed out.

CRACCKK!!!

And the massive ice wall Yue Lan had created was cleanly sliced in half from top to bottom.

The sword qi continued onward, severing dozens of approaching infected in one smooth motion.

SLASH!

SLASH!

SLASH!

Their bodies were cut apart instantly, dissolving into black smoke before they could even scream.

Zhang Wei and his remaining soldiers watched the scene with their mouths agape, utterly stunned by such a casual yet terrifying display of strength.

Lan Suyao simply smiled confidently, ignoring the awed gazes from the soldiers.

She turned toward Li Feng and waved her sharp sword gracefully.

"We are not such weak women that we need your protection all the times."

Seeing her confidence look, Li Feng shook his head before giving a nod and smile toward Yue Lan.

"Then be careful, both of you. If the situation turns bad, retreat to the flying ship immediately. I’ll be back as soon as I can."

He said that because the flying ship was no ordinary vessel.

Li Feng already noticed that it was reinforced with powerful formations capable of withstanding several attacks from a Nascent Soul cultivator.

With that, Li Feng shot upward like a streak of starlight, heading straight toward the inner walls where the explosions had originated.

Meanwhile, Lan Suyao looked at the surging wave of infected, her smile turning excited... almost bloodthirsty.

To be honest, the reason she had sent Li Feng away was simple... she wanted to cut something down.

Her battle intent had been suppressed for far too long during their journey and her time as City Lord, so right now she desperately needed to vent.

Of course, she had tried sparring with Li Feng during the journey.

But fighting him was no longer fun... because he simply dominated her too easily.

During the journey, she had tried sparring with him, only to be defeated and then "punished" by being bent over with her rear raised high.

Sure, being under Li Feng and moaning felt quite good... but deep down, she was a woman who loved to fight.

To battle until blood spilled and roar with all her heart.

And these human-shaped monsters were the perfect targets.

If she let this opportunity slip, she felt like she would go crazy.

"Haha, Yue Lan! You protect these people. I’ll kill all of these things!" Lan Suyao shouted excitedly, her sword humming with power.

But there was no reply.

Lan Suyao blinked and glanced back, wondering why Yue Lan didn’t say anything.

Then she saw that Yue Lan was... pouting.

Seeing her questioning look, Yue Lan softly murmured,

"...Why did you have to cut down my wall?"
