By using ’Sever’, Shadow can cut open a small tear into an alternate Yin Realm... a dark, shadow dimension that exists parallel to ours. He can hide inside that yin space and observe the real world without being detected."
Li Feng’s voice grew more excited as he continued,
"Everything in this universe contains both yin and yang. Where there is light, there is darkness and our current world leans heavily toward Yang where there light, substance, and life. Shadow, on the other hand, can literally step into the Yin side of reality. That’s why we can’t sense him at all as he’s no longer truly present in the yang world when he hides."
Hearing this, Lan Suyao’s eyes widened slightly.
"So... he can freely move between dimensions?" she asked, still somewhat wary.
"Essentially, yes," Li Feng nodded while looking at Shadow. "Unless Shadow comes out, I’m afraid even a Nascent Soul expert would be helpless against him unless they have the ability to travel between realms."
