Chapter 25: Chapter 25: TrUtH?
[Skill used: Darkness Surveillance, S tier skill]
[Medium: Amon]
[Divinity Received: 1334]
"Do you feel it?" Amon asked. His hand rested on top of Liliana’s head while she sat cross-legged in the center of a large purple spell circle that covered most of the floor.
Her eyes stayed shut, meanwhile Amon’s divinity moved through her body like thick, heavy liquid.
She felt it immediately. The power pushed into every part of her, familiar and overwhelming. It reminded her of the time she had devoured the goddess of wisdom, raw, endless strength that made her own reserves look like nothing.
I feel it. Coursing through me.
The spell circle brightened. Lines of purple light spread outward and connected. This was an S-tier spell Liliana could normally only cast once every ten years. With Amon’s blessing feeding her, she could run it as often as needed.
When the spell circle lightened up.
The world opened up inside her mind. Maps formed, cities appeared, and she scanned for the specific Ember signature that matched the two keys she held in her lap.
"Do you see it?" Amon asked.
"Not yet..."
"Then do it fast. I don’t have an infinite supply here."
"Don’t care," she answered without opening her eyes. "I will take as much time as I want."
Her vision swept across Japan first. She saw monsters tearing through streets while hunters fought back in small groups. Fires burned in several districts.
From there she moved to China. Emergency teams pulled injured people from rubble. The scale of the damage was clear, but none of it was what she searched for. She kept pushing, following the faint trace of the Ember.
It took several minutes before she locked onto the matching signature. Mexico. Near the edge of the American border.
She could have reported it right away. Instead, she kept the connection open. Amon’s divinity continued pouring into her. She directed part of it inward, into her own body and slowly, her skin started to tighten and smooth.
Old scars faded. The constant ache in her joints and spine eased, then disappeared completely. Her essence purified itself, growing cleaner with every second.
Amon noticed it. He smiled but did not pull back. He pushed more divinity through the link.
Liliana’s body changed much faster. Wrinkles vanished. Her frame shrank slightly, becoming firmer and lighter. Her hair regained thickness and color. She looked younger by the minute.
"Wait, wait, master," she said, voice rising. She tried to cut the flow, but it kept coming.
Her legs and arms grew healthier, smaller, more like they had been decades ago and surely panic set in.
"Master!" she shouted. She opened her eyes and slapped his hand away. The spell circle dimmed, vanishing away. "What the hell?"
"You started it," Amon said calmly.
Claude stood a few steps back, staring with wide eyes. The middle-aged woman who had sat down earlier now looked like she was in her early twenties. Her face was smooth, her posture straight, and her body had reset to its prime.
"Umm, can I get that as well?" Claude asked.
Amon ignored him. He walked closer to Liliana. "So, did you see the key? Or not?"
Liliana did not answer right away. She kept touching her face, then looked at the mirror on the wall.
She pressed a hand to her chest, which was noticeably smaller, and ran fingers along her much narrower waist. Her expression turned sour. Both Amon and Claude could see the irritation.
"Master," she said.
"I won’t turn you back, yo—"
"It’s not that." She cut him off. "The world, what’s actually happening here? I just saw it while searching. India, England, Japan, China... the hunters and the witches are barely holding on. Monsters everywhere. Casualties mounting."
"Oh, I thought you knew...?" Amon replied.
"I’m not omnipotent or omniscient like you. I am simply, a human."
"Wait, are you?" Claude asked, half-joking, half-serious.
Amon did not answer. "We don’t have time for chit-chat. Start the car." He turned and walked toward the exit, steps quick.
"Master," Liliana called after him.
Amon kept moving. He reached the door. Behind him, Claude hesitated, unsure whether to follow or stay.
"Master!" she called again, louder.
Amon’s hand closed around the doorknob. His mind worked fast. Claude would obey orders without many questions, but Liliana was different. If he stayed here much longer, she would keep pushing, ask more, and connect the pieces quickly.
He opened the door. But something happened. There was no road, no car, nothing. Only the castle behind him and endless black beyond.
Darkness. Complete, thick darkness waited outside.
"Master!!" Liliana’s voice carried real anger now. Faint essence glowed in her eyes.
Amon turned back toward her. "When did you cast the spell?" He sounded genuinely confused. He had not felt her activate anything new.
"I never stopped," she said. "The moment you thought the darkness around you broke earlier, it didn’t vanish, I just moved it around the castle instead."
"Hmmmm..."
Claude stepped outside too and saw the same wall of black. "But she was unconscious."
Amon looked at Liliana again.
Automatic spell casting? No, she was not strong enough for that on her own. Someone, or something, had helped her, using her as the medium.
But who? Who else is here?
Liliana walked forward slowly. The glow in her eyes cooled. "You can’t keep me in the dark anymore, master. I am not feeble like before. I am not going to accept your lies like before. So please, I ask again. What’s actually happening?"
Claude turned to face her. "Amon just wants humans to evolve, that’s it. He wants them stronger. With this chaos they will gr—"
"Naive..." Liliana cut in. "So much like I used to be. Following him, believing every word."
She stopped directly in front of Amon. "Now tell me, master. You already gave me enough of your divinity.
I can warp the time around this darkness into a whole century if you don’t start speaking. Tell me.
Why are you trying to release those scum? Why are you letting everyone suffer in chaos? What does this actually mean?"
She flicked her wrist. Her system window appeared for both of them to see.
[SSSSS+ RANK MISSION]
[Save the world.]
[The extinction countdown has begun. The Golden Immortal, Second Heir of Creation, the one who has never once failed, has returned.
He was the reason humanity survived this long. He is now the reason it won’t. He isn’t angry. He isn’t grieving. He has simply had enough. That’s what makes him dangerous. Stop him. Not because you can. Because there is no one who can stop him, not even himself.]
[Reward: ???]
Purple light filled the room, heavy and oppressive.
Clap!
Amon clapped once.
Clap! Clap!
"Bravo. You got me. Here I thought, why did my skill cut through your spell so easily? You let it cut through on purpose."
Liliana stayed quiet. Her powers flickered but stabilized once more.
"Okay, okay. Stop staring. I will talk. I will talk." Amon raised both hands in a half-joking surrender. "I am not going to destroy the world. I am not that cruel. I am just trying to..
...remake it."
He walked back into the room and sat on the edge of a stone table. The purple light from Liliana’s spell mixed with the castle’s normal torches, casting long shadows across the walls. Claude stood near the door, looking between them.
Liliana did not sit. She crossed her arms, waiting.
"Start from the beginning," she said. "No half-truths please."
Amon nodded slowly. "Fine. The keys you two have been collecting? They aren’t just simple artifacts, keys to locks.
They are actually anchors. Each one holds a fragment of the old world’s rules. The Ember signature you found in Mexico is the last major one.
Once all anchors are gathered and activated, the current system breaks. The gates open wider. The monsters come through in full force."
"Why?" Claude asked. His voice was quieter than usual.
"Why what?"
"Why did you lie?" Claude asked.
