Chapter 2410: Chapter 2410: Discovering Dad’s Secret (7)
Ye Mingmei held the hand of the cheerful Meimei, entered the campus, and arrived at the waiting room, where she placed the little girl on a chair, quietly waiting for Jin Chenye, who had yet to appear.
Up until this very moment, Ye Mingmei had still not come to terms with all of this.
She thought the person she was least likely to be with in this lifetime was about to become her daughter’s nominal father.
She even thought to herself that if Jin Chenye didn’t show up, she could pretend nothing had happened and continue living alone with Meimei.
But seeing the look of expectation in Meimei’s eyes, Ye Mingmei couldn’t bring herself to voice any regret.
"Buzz—Buzz—"
The phone in her bag emitted a low vibrating sound. Ye Mingmei paused for a moment before quickly answering the call.
"Senior, I’m already here, in the waiting room of Meimei’s class..."
"Still calling me Senior?" Jin Chenye’s gentle voice, like a cello, was melodious and pleasant, making one feel no annoyance even if interrupted.
"Mingmei, from today on, you have to start getting used to having someone by your side to take care of you, starting with how you address me."
"Um... Chenye." Ye Mingmei stammered for a long time before calling out.
A low chuckle came from Jin Chenye on the other end, "Look at you, just addressing me feels like it takes your life. How will you act as loving parents with me in front of Meimei with this kind of performance?"
"..."
"I’m on my way right now, there’s traffic ahead, but I’ll be there after one more turn. You and Meimei just wait for me in the waiting room; I’ll be there shortly."
After Jin Chenye finished speaking, the phone was followed by a harsh sound of tires screeching against the ground.
Ye Mingmei was just about to ask if something had happened when she realized the call had already been disconnected.
Watching the phone screen go dark, she bit her lip, sat back in her seat, and held Meimei in her arms.
She had already decided to take this step; for her daughter, she couldn’t regret...
Ye Mingmei quietly waited in the waiting room as time ticked away.
The homeroom teacher and life coach had started arranging for the parents to be seated, yet Jin Chenye was nowhere to be seen.
"Miss Ye, the parent meeting is about to start, do you think you should take Yu Xin to the classroom first..."
"I don’t want to go; I want to wait for Daddy!" Before Ye Mingmei could speak, Meimei anxiously clung to her neck, her small face full of eagerness, fearing Ye Mingmei would take her into the classroom.
Her beautiful big eyes showed a pleading glow.
Ye Mingmei took out her phone, dialed Jin Chenye’s number, only to find that the phone was switched off.
"We’ll wait a bit longer; you go ahead and start, sorry." Ye Mingmei, holding Meimei, sat back in the chair, apologetically glancing at the teachers.
Sending a child to this preschool meant none of the families were ordinary people.
Moreover, the homeroom teacher and the two life coaches knew Ye Mingmei’s identity, and seeing her say so, they dared not persuade her further, proceeding to organize the other families for the festival.
After waiting nearly five more minutes, Jin Chenye still hadn’t arrived, and Ye Mingmei began to sense something was wrong, quickly calling the Ye Family’s bodyguards to search for him.
Jin Chenye had clearly said earlier he was just one intersection away, and despite the traffic, he should have arrived by now.
And the phone inexplicably turned off.
That screeching sound of brakes earlier...
Ye Mingmei’s heart suddenly raced!
"Miss, we found Mr. Jin’s car by the roadside at the turn ahead, but he is not in the car!"
