Chapter 1948: Chapter 1948: Overt Eavesdropping
"I did not!" Ye Mingmei shouted, her voice lacking confidence.
Looking at Yu Xiuzhun’s eyes, though, she felt guilty.
She was truly scared...
Scared that Su Yiru would find out that she’d been secretly in touch with Yu Xiuzhun behind everyone’s back.
She wanted to get rid of Yu Xiuzhun, but she was afraid.
Yu Xiuzhun was different from other men; her words were like wind to his ears, and he wouldn’t care at all.
"If you’re not scared, then there’s no need to hide. I want to see what Su Yiru can do once she comes back," Yu Xiuzhun said, crossing his legs.
He propped his chin with one hand and looked at Ye Mingmei.
He could clearly see her worry, but pretended to see nothing.
"You have matters to attend to; why don’t you go handle them instead of staying here to make things difficult for me? You promised me that you wouldn’t let my mom know about our relationship!"
Ye Mingmei clenched her palm, biting her lip hard, and took a step forward.
"Didn’t you say that there’s nothing between us? So what if Su Yiru knows?"
"..."
Ye Mingmei didn’t expect Yu Xiuzhun to use her own words against her, leaving her at a loss for words.
Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"Knock knock—"
"Miss, the person has arrived," the butler’s voice reminded from outside the door.
"Yu Xiuzhun, your person is already here; won’t you leave?" Ye Mingmei looked at Yu Xiuzhun, who was still lounging comfortably on the sofa, showing no intention of moving.
"If he’s here, he’s here. Let him in. Didn’t you like knowing what I’m up to? Just as well, you can listen in face-to-face, saving you the trouble of eavesdropping behind my back."
Yu Xiuzhun lazily parted his lips.
"I was not eavesdropping! This is the Ye Family home, and whatever you say here, I listen to openly and honestly." Ye Mingmei’s eyes flickered as she replied with righteous indignation.
With someone as unreasonable as Yu Xiuzhun, reasoning was futile.
"Right, you’re openly eavesdropping," Yu Xiuzhun snorted coldly, standing up from the sofa and strolling to the door, reaching out to turn the doorknob.
"Miss..."
The butler standing outside was shocked to see Yu Xiuzhun at the door, swallowing back his words.
Yu Xiuzhun didn’t even look at the butler, directly glancing toward the assistant behind him.
Furrowing his brows, "I told you, unless it was something important, not to find me at this time."
"Mr. Yu, Mr. Xi had something sent back to the villa, saying you must receive it personally," the assistant replied respectfully.
"What is it?" Yu Xiuzhun asked, his thin lips slightly parting.
His gaze flicked over to Ye Mingmei.
Ye Mingmei was about to step closer to listen, but meeting his eyes, her slender figure froze instantly.
A bit embarrassed, she found herself in a dilemma about whether to advance or retreat.
"It’s a document."
"I see." Yu Xiuzhun’s wicked eyes narrowed, his gaze suddenly turning sinister.
He waved his hand to dismiss the assistant, turned around, and closed the room door.
Looking at Ye Mingmei hiding nearby.
"Want to know?"
Yu Xiuzhun took a step toward Ye Mingmei as if he were a wolf laying in wait for a lamb over a trap.
"Your matters have nothing to do with me, but if you want to tell me, I can reluctantly listen for a bit." Ye Mingmei backed away, putting distance between herself and Yu Xiuzhun.
Earlier, she heard him mention something about a document. Why would Dan Hanxi send him a document and require Yu Xiuzhun to receive it personally?
"Just reluctantly listen?" Yu Xiuzhun curled his lips into a wicked grin.
His perfectly contoured face shimmered with an alluring glow in the faint light.
