Chapter 144: Inviting the thief into your house (Part - 3)
The atmosphere in the courtyard had reached its breaking point.
Spiritual Qi surged from the clan elders like raging storm tides as they prepared to suppress Song Tianyu by force. Several oif the elders had already taken a step forward, and their expressions had turned hostile. They no longer cared if he was the precious son of the Patriarch.
’Oh! Boy!’ Gu Fan finally took the situation seriously and he already had a hand in his inventory, ready to pull out anything or even everything if necessary.
Yet just as the conflict was about to erupt.
Creak!
The doors of Bamboo Spring Pavilion slowly opened, and the faint sound instantly silenced the entire courtyard.
In less than a second, a bone-chilling aura drifted from within the pavilion, causing the temperature of the surroundings to drop several degrees. A visible layer of frost spread across the edges of the wooden porch, and even the ground got covered in a layer of ice.
Everyone instinctively turned toward the entrance.
A slender figure slowly emerged. It was Song Yan.
Despite being ravaged by a deadly poison and lingering on the edge of death, Song Yans appearance still caused those who caught a glimpse of her to lose focus for a brief moment.
Her skin was pale as snow, carrying a faint bluish tint. Yet that fragile complexion only accentuated her exquisite features and cold, detached beauty.
Her eyes were calm. Too calm for someone whose next breath could be there last.
Her eyes carried the indifference of someone who had already looked past the end of the world and accepted it.
The disputes of the Clan.
The power struggles.
The greed.
The ambitions.
None of it seemed capable of stirring even the slightest ripple within her heart.
She possessed strikingly long, entirely silver hair that flew in the air like waterfall under moonlight and was in stark contrast with the traditional golden hair of the Song Clan bloodline,
As she walked under the moonlight, Gu fan could see her wearing a thick, pristine white robe that covered every single inch of her pale skin from her elegant neck all the way down to her ankles.
But even with that, the robes still perfectly outlined her slender waist and her surprisingly generous curves that she may have been trying to hide.
The moment Song Yan walked out, the entire courtyard became silent instantly.
"Aunt Yan!" Finally it was Song Tianyu who broke the silence as he greeted her. Even his previously fiery temper became noticeably restrained in front of Son Yan.
Meanwhile Patriarch Song Tianming frowned slightly on the side, "Sister, you should be resting. The night air is harmful to your condition."
However, Song Yan paid no attention to neither of them, nor did she acknowledge the assembled elders.
Her gaze slowly swept across the courtyard.
Past Song Tianyu.
Past the Patriarch.
Past the clan elders whose faces were still twisted with anger.
Before finally stopping on Gu Fan.
The moment their gazes met, the entire courtyard seemed to grow even quieter.
"Follow me." Song Yan opened her mouth and commanded. Her voice was soft and calm, without the slightest fluctuation.
Yet it carried an unquestionable authority.
Then, without waiting for anyone’s approval, explanation, or objection, she simply turned around and walked back toward the pavilion, leaving everyone else stunned.
All the eyes in the courtyard immediately shifted toward the hooded figure who remain standing in his spot before he slowly turned his head and glanced at the dumbfounded elders, especially the Second Elder who was gritting his teeth and barely holding himself back from jumping on Gu Fan to crack his skull open.
A faint smile appeared beneath his hood.
Finally.
Some peace and quiet.
He had been listening to these old fossils bark for nearly half an hour.
With his hands tucked casually behind his back, he slowly stepped forward.
As he passed the elders, his calm voice drifted through the silent courtyard.
"It seems..." Gu fan began to speak, but paused briefly, "...the patient has made his choice."
Gu Fan continued walking without looking back, but after taking several more steps, he stopped again and lazily added,
"And I would suggest the patient’s family does not create a ruckus while I am alone with the patient."
"I wouldn’t want to get get distracted."
The elders’ expressions stiffened hearing him and Song Tianyu nearly burst out laughing. Well he was laughing right now. Not sure how he would react in a few years down the line. But for now he was happy.
Meanwhile, Gu Fan had already stepped through the wooden doors of the Bamboo Spring Pavilion as the cold, isolated air of the inner chamber washed over his face.
It was chilly, and Gu Fan smelled the faint scent of medicinal herbs that had been burned for decades in these four falls to suppress her failing health.
But He did not bother to stop and look around, with his hands clasped behind his back, he followed Song Yan deeper into the pavilion before she finally led him into her study.
When they were inside her study, Song Yan stopped near a low stone table and slowly turned her body around, her deep, piercing dark eyes staring directly into Gu Fan’s masked face.
"My nephew. He is special. He has a good heart, and in the right place."
"But unfortunately it also makes him an incredibly naive boy who is far too easily deceived by smooth-tongued charlatans."
"But I am not like him. I have seen far many of your kind to be blinded by your mystery," Song Yan stated with a soft, flat voice that held zero warmth. But her voice did not raise.
She had spent her entire life watching the scheming elders of her clan play politics and she firmly believed Gu Fan was just another fake "divine doctor" with ulterior motives.
With that, Song Yan reached into the sleeve of her robes, pulling out a finely carved wooden box before she placed it onto the stone table and opened the lid, revealing a glittering, deep-green jade hairpin resting on a bed of black velvet.
"Take this, and leave..."
And never show your face in front of Song Tianyu ever again."
