Chapter 696: Chapter 695- The Brat is Insane

"It’s not fair," Bella whispered. The cat-kin’s voice was small. Broken. The quiet, ’I-accept-but-it-hurts’ whisper that was somehow louder than Kaida’s scream. "It’s just not fair."

Vivian said nothing. The elf simply looked down at her pregnant belly. Her emerald eyes were wet. Her hands traced the curve of the child within. The silence was her protest.

Mira’s lips curled. The teasing smile. The one that made Kaida want to punch her and hug her simultaneously.

"Don’t worry," Mira said. Her voice carried the Voice of Dominion’s warmth without the authority. Just sister-to-sister. "Your time will come. Give birth. Heal. Then you can have him all to yourselves."

"Easy for you to say," Kaida muttered. But her voice had lost its edge. Because Mira was right. And because Kaida called her something that she couldn’t take back.

"Elder Sister," Kaida said. The title was grudging. Forced through clenched teeth. But genuine. The Catorian family’s respect for hierarchy, for age, for the woman who had been first. "You’re right."

Mira’s teasing smile softened. Into something warmer. Something real.

Bella looked at Helena. The cat-kin’s silver eyes found the nanny’s violet-and-gold ones. The connection was different. Not hierarchical. Maternal. Helena had raised Viktor. Had been his nanny. Had fed him, clothed him, taught him. Bella, the former assassin, the woman who had never had a family, looked at Helena and saw something she had never had.

A mother figure.

"Helena," Bella said. The name was quiet. The ’I-trust-you’ name. "Take care of him."

Helena’s eyes softened. The violet-and-gold, the Demon Sovereign’s gaze, became the nanny’s gaze. Warm. Reassuring. The ’I-will’ gaze that had comforted a frightened boy twenty years ago and now comforted a frightened woman.

"I will," Helena said. "I promise."

Vivian, the elf, the quiet one, simply nodded. The acceptance of a woman who understood her place and was at peace with it.

Viktor walked forward.

Past the bed. Past the three pregnant women who watched him with eyes full of longing and frustration and love. Past Elara, who winked at him as he passed. Toward Mira and Helena. Toward the babies.

He stopped in front of Mira. His eyes went to the infant at her breast. The small, pink face. The closed eyes. The tiny mouth, working, sucking. The rhythmic pull of milk.

He reached out. His finger, large compared to the baby’s head, extended toward the infant’s cheek. The finger, calloused from sword work and rough from training, touched—

The baby’s hand moved.

Small. Fast. The tiny fingers, no bigger than peas, shot up from Mira’s arm and grabbed his finger. Before his fingertip could reach the cheek. The grip was surprising. Strong for something so small. The tiny fist closed around his index finger and held.

Viktor’s mouth twitched.

"What is this?" he said. His voice was quiet. The amusement was genuine. The surprise was genuine. He looked at Mira. "What’s he doing?"

Mira looked down at the baby. At the tiny fist gripping Viktor’s finger. At the infant’s face, which had not changed expression. Still sucking. Still calm. But holding.

"He is saying that you would not let a perverted dad touch him," Mira said. The teasing tone was back. The ’my-son-is-perfect-and-your-husband-is-a-pervert’ tone that she reserved for moments like this.

Viktor’s mouth fell open. The expression was rare. Genuine surprise.

"You’re saying as if you can understand him," he said.

Mira shrugged. The gesture was eloquent. The ’maybe-I-can-maybe-I-can’t’ shrug that answered nothing and everything.

The baby burped.

The sound was small. Wet. The kind of burp that came from a stomach full of milk. The infant’s mouth released Mira’s nipple. The tiny head turned. The eyes, still developing, found Viktor’s face. The baby looked up at him. Directly. The gaze was unfocused but present. Aware. More aware than a four-hour-old infant should have been.

Then the baby pulled his finger. The tiny hand, gripping with surprising strength, yanked Viktor’s finger downward. Toward its mouth. The small lips opened. The gums, pink and wet, found his fingertip.

The baby bit.

"WHAT THE—" Viktor’s mouth twitched. His finger was caught. The tiny jaw clamped down. The pressure was not gentle. The ’I-am-holding-your-finger-and-I-will-not-let-go’ bite that made him look closer. At the gums. At the white, visible, unmistakable shape of teeth. "This brat has teeth."

He stared. At the infant. At the small, white, perfectly formed teeth that were embedded in his fingertip. At the baby’s face, which was looking at him. Directly. The eyes, still developing, were focused enough to meet his.

"He is not even four hours old," Viktor said. His voice was quiet. The surprise was genuine. Not the amused surprise of before. The actual, ’I-did-not-expect-this’ surprise. "And he has teeth."

The baby bit harder. Viktor felt the pressure. Not enough to break skin, but enough to feel. The tiny jaw was stronger than it should have been.

"I am a dad, idiot," Viktor said. To the baby. The words were directed at the infant, who stared back with an expression that was, unmistakably, smug.

Mira’s eyebrow rose. "Why are you calling this innocent baby an idiot?"

Viktor looked at her. At the teasing expression. At the ’you-are-talking-to-a-newborn-like-he-can-understand-you’ look that she wore so well.

"My bad," he said. The words were grudging. The apology of a man who knew he was being ridiculous but couldn’t help it.

The baby chuckled.

Not a gurgle. Not a spit bubble. A chuckle. The sound was small. Brief. But it was a laugh. The infant, four hours old, with teeth and a grip and eyes that tracked movement, laughed at his father. The grin that accompanied the chuckle was small. Lopsided. The kind of grin that said ’I-know-exactly-what-I-am-doing.’

Viktor stared.

"System," he said. The word was internal. Spoken in his mind. The interface only he could see responded.

[Analyzing offspring. Please wait.]

[Analysis complete.]

[Offspring: Male. Parentage: Viktor Catorian (Host) + Mira Catorian (Wife). Bloodline: Human-Incubus hybrid with inherited abilities from both parents.]

[Growth Status: Accelerated mental development detected. Physical growth remains within normal parameters. Mental maturation rate: approximately 10x standard human infant.]

[Note: Accelerated mental growth is a result of combined bloodline factors — Incubus cognition inheritance, 100x-enhanced genetic template from both parents, and system-assisted developmental optimization. The child’s brain is forming neural connections at an accelerated rate to support enhanced cognitive function.]

[Additional note: Physical growth will NOT be accelerated. The child will grow at normal human physical developmental milestones. Mental growth will stabilize at approximately 18 months, at which point the child will have cognitive function equivalent to a 5-year-old human child.]

[Teeth: Present. Inherited trait from Incubus bloodline. Infant teeth are functional and will be replaced by adult set at standard developmental timeline.]

[Summary: Your children are too smart. They will think faster, learn faster, and understand faster than any human infant. Plan accordingly.]

Viktor absorbed the information. The system’s clinical, detached analysis of his son’s brain. The ’your-children-are-too-smart’ summary that was both reassuring and terrifying.

’Too smart,’ he thought. His green eyes found the baby, who was still gripping his finger, still staring. The smug grin was gone, replaced by a calm, knowing expression that no four-hour-old should wear. ’He’s four hours old and he’s already judging me... this brat.’
