"Shi Wenqian is indeed my biological mother?" Zhang Xiaoling questioned, with no one in mind.
She seemed a little lost with negative thoughts fuelling her emotions.
On the other hand, Zhang Liling couldn't understand her reaction. Staring at her, she probed, "Did you not want her to be your biological mother?"
Hearing that question, Xiaoling lifted her gaze. "I just cannot believe that I was indeed her only true child yet, she treated Mingyu better than me. She was never concerned about my challenges. She would only help out when she had some benefits to rip."
"Then you really do not know who your mother is. The woman I know, will only 'love' and wholeheartedly support anyone that will bring her the biggest benefits, so in your case, Zhang Mingyu has more to offer to her than you."
Letting out a soft sigh, Liling continued, "Marrying into a wealthy family like the Tangs, was where your limit reached. With that rich in-law, your mother would use that connection to enrich her status. So your worth has been established, unlike Zhang Mingyu who will bring her something more than a wealthy in-law."
"What other benefit can she rip from Mingyu getting married to Ong's daughter apart from wealthy in-laws?" Zhang Xiaoling asked as she adjusted her sitting position with keen interest.
"Don't tell me you don't know that." Liling looked disappointed that her once smart step-sister that was good with her job at the company couldn't think straight anymore.
Was she that shocked by the DNA results unveiling?
Regardless, she went ahead to explain things to her without bothering the man that was sneaking away to give them space.
"Seeing how your mother went all the way to bring a fake son into the Zhang family, the number one reason would have been to secure her position, and the second reason was to get her hands on the company shares. This is also the very reason this wedding is still happening."
Speaking about the wedding, Xiaoling who had no idea how their parents were able to convince the Ong family to go to the wedding after the scandal, inquired about it. And when she got the details, she didn't know what to think.
But for the first time, she thought that her stepfather was indeed a fool.
"I don't know how my father missed getting a DNA test done when Zhang Mingyu was born, but there is something I'm more interested in. Was your mother actually pregnant back then?"
Zhang Liling was very disturbed about this because her mother had told her that Shi Wenqian was pregnant back then, and that was the only reason she had called off the wedding.
So, what happened along the line?
Listening to Liling's doubts, Xiaoling hurriedly straightened her thoughts. "If you want to hear the truth, then take this fact from me. My mother was actually pregnant back then. I had seen her bare baby bump on several occasions.
I can also attest to the fact that my mother had gone into labour while your father was away for a business trip. She kept screaming until the car drove away. I was still young, so I was left at home to be taken care of by the servants."
Recalling the incident from the past that she couldn't forget in a hurry because of how iconic the scene was, Zhang Xiaoling revealed things as it was.
"If that is so, there could be only one answer. Your mother lost her biological son during childbirth and came home with another woman's child." Liling analysed while meeting her gaze.
A moment of silence in the spacious living area as both women continued to exchange glances with the same thought going on in their heads.
After the two bad bloods trying to get into one fitting finished their conversation, a deep sigh escaped from Zhang Xiaoling's lips.
"I suggest you take care of yourself because things will not be easy for you from now onwards. The public wouldn't want to know if you are innocent or not before attacking you. If your husband truly loves you, he will do his best to protect you. And on this note, I suggest you let him know what's going on before the truth comes out, that way you will gain his trust."
With several thoughts going on in her head as nervousness set in, Zhang Xiaoling got up to leave with Liling making the effort to walk her to her car.
"I see you are dressed for work, but I suggest you don't go because you won't be in the right state of mind to work." Leaving the last heartfelt suggestion with her, Liling stood at a spot and watched her drive away before walking into the house.
Taking the stairs, she went straight to the study to find Fang Bingwen.
Seeing her walk through the doors, he inquired, "Has she left?"
"Yes." Taking a seat before him, she added, "I do pity her, and I'm sure she is worried about being left all alone once the crisis sets."
"She will be fine," Mr. Fang said while looking at her. "You will make sure of that."
After a few seconds of silence, Liling shifted the topic. "What's next on the agenda."
Hearing her question, he pointed at the big brown envelope that contained the DNA results. "You will hand this over to your father tomorrow just before the police arrive to take Shi Wenqian away."
"The police? Have you made a report already?" Liling inquired.
"I just made one now. I will be going out in a few minutes to hand over all the pieces of evidence in my hands to the commissioner so that investigations can start today itself. By tomorrow morning, they should have at least ticked off a few things on the list so they can come with an arrest warrant."
Fang Bingwen was very serious with his task and so would not allow for there to be any mistakes.
Shi Wenqian needed to be arrested a day before the wedding which was the following day.
