"I will think about it when I get back," Tang Enlai said before cutting off the conversation over the phone.
Putting his phone on the table, he wore an apologetic smile as he looked at Zhang Xiaoling.
"Miss Zhang, I truly apologize for the call, but I always have to answer my fathers call in case of emergency."
'Emergency?' Zhang Xiaoling thought. 'Could talks about vacation be labelled as an emergency?'
Anyway, it's not like she was interested in him answering a call in the middle of their date, it's not like she was interested him, so she was not that offended.
"It's fine by me," she answered and looked away, disinterested in whatever he had to say next.
Tang Enlai noticed it from her face and smiled meaningfully.
"Am I boring you?" He asked.
"What made you think that way?" Zhang Xiaoling asked, feigning ignorance.
"It is very obvious from the look on your face. But if I misinterpreted it, help me face your facail expression."
Zhang Xiaoling snorted within herself. If not for the last shred of patience holding her back, she would have said a word he wouldn't like.
What has her facial expression got to do with him? And who says he could tell her how to keep it?
Optioning to ignore him for his best interest, she picked up her phone to reply her mother's message.
'Fine.' she typed.
Tan Enlai glanced at Xiaoling and nodded within himself. There was still a smile on his face, but he was annoyed deep inside him, for the lack of attention from her.
Fortunately, he didn't have the opportunity to stay angry for long, and the awkwardness did not continue to linger in the atmosphere as the waiters canebin with their food order soon.
Zhang Xiaoling was more than glad for another opportunity of silence to be ensued in the room. Now, he didn't have to talk to her with food in his mouth as that wouldn't look good on his kind of person.
Bringing the spoon to draw the soup from her bowl, she brough it to her mouth and sipped it, and as soon as she did that, Enlai, who has been watching her form the corner of his eyes asked, Is the food to your palate?"
She swallowed the food before replying with a nod, "They have good chefs here."
"I'm glad I didn't disappoint you by picking this place," he said with a small smile playing at the corner of his lips before moving his gaze back to his plate.
Then, he didn't disturb her again, but Xiaoling was left thinking deeply.
She was wondering the reason he was being kind with her because his personality spoke volumes.
One thing she knew about people from a political family was their pride, and being from a wealthy family too, she was able to sense it from him.
But for him to remain calm even with her displeasure and disinterest written all over her face, she wondered what he was upto.
Her aim was to attend this date to check his personality, and then do little things to annoy so he would call of the intentions of their fathers, but perceiving that he must have other thoughts, she decided to take a deep breath.
'I will have to sit back to watch,' she concluded to herself.
Zhang Xiaoling was smart. She had thought of the possibility of still ending up with Tan Enlai, and it would be bad for her if she offended him and still ended up with him.
She ould be the one to suffer.
Tan Enlai on the otherhand, had different thoughts running through his mind.
The reason he was still unmarried up till date was best known to him and his family.
He was indeed very hardworking when it came to his business and politics, but that was not all that was stopping him from being single.
After having their dinner, Tan Enlai stirred their conversation towards another direction.
"Ms. Zhang, can you tell me your hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time?" He asked with an interested gaze.
Zhang Xiaoling had eaten, and had thought things over, so she didn't looked annoyed now. But she couldn't manage even a small smile immediately, because that would look fishy.
Without thinking, she replied, "If I have that opportunity, I would like to go the spa to take care of my skin, rest at home and shop if I feel like it."
A soft Chuckle escaped from Enlai's lips as he reached out for his lips to hid it.
Small wrinkles appeared at the corner of his eyes to show how heartfelt his heart was at her response.
Zhang Xiaoling looled surprised at his reaction. What was it she said that sounded funny?
"D-Did I say something funny?" She asked with a look of confusion.
Tan Enlai shook his head in denial. "No, I like your sense of humour."
Still looking confused, she raised her brows to probe him.
Enlai had no choice but to explain. "I like that you said the truth, you didn't lie unlike other women out there who wouldn't hesitate to impress me."
'Oh...' Zhang Xiaoling thought to herself. She could very well tell that he had been on dates with other women.
"What is there to lie about? I come from a wealthy family, and I have everything I ever desire." She bragged without a care.
Tan Enlai thought it was true, and that was the reason she didn't have to lie.
"Miss Zhang, let's meet again. I don't want you to back to your place late." He said with a satisfied smile.
'He wants another date? Interesting," She thought.
Although he was acting like a gentleman, she couldn't label him as one.
She was acting truthfully and honest with him, but she was not like that. She knew within herself that she was not whom people thought she was, and she not surprised if he was just playing out this part for her to see.
At least she was not going to blindly let him lead her.
"Mr. Tan, let's meet again," she said and flashed him polite smile.
Tang Enlai returned the smile before walking her out to the entrance where her driver was waiting.
He even helped to open the car door for her and said, "Get home safely, let's talk on the phone tomorrow."
Closing the car door, he waved to Herz surprising her at the end.
