Chapter 440 Is This a Scheme?
Inside a stronghold…Panthers Organization base..
Anthony was seated with a frown on his face. It had already been a long time ever since the group of four had set out to look for Nathan. But, other than the fact that he received information from them that they were still investigating to ensure that they did not miss anything, he did not receive any other positive response.
Although it was not long ago that he had received the information that they were deciding to act, but, he was still feeling troubled. After all, currently, if the group of four did not come back, then, he was going to be under a lot of pressure.
Four people from his faction had gone out of the stronghold. This of course raised suspicions from the other factions present in the organization.
And of course, it was not just the people from the organization that were suspicious. Instead, even the people from the other organizations present in the stronghold felt that the Panthers organization was plotting something.
For that reason, the other organizations present in the stronghold had been keeping an eye on every move that the Panthers organization was making. Of course, although they felt uncomfortable, there was no way that the Panthers organization was going to chase away the other people from the stronghold.
All that they could do was to maintain their silence, ensuring that the other organizations did not know anything about what was happening.
But of course, the only people that were keeping silent about the matter were only two, himself and Patricia. Nobody else knew about the fact that he had sent the four people outside of the stronghold to look for someone.
As for the supreme leader, she had decided to keep silent about the matter. Ever since she had informed Anthony that he was supposed to take care of the matter until he ensured that he received what he had been looking for, she did not make any other move.
That implied that, during the time that Anthony was being questioned by others about where the four people from his faction had gone to, he had to give an explanation of his own.
But, it was not easy to convince the others. They were already looking for a chance that they could use to take down Anthony from his position. But, they had never gotten any chance that they could use.
As for Anthony, he had always been trying to make sure that his position was stable. So, currently, he knew that after he failed the first time and Erick was killed, he had already made the position that he was currently holding, completely unstable.
If he failed to get what the supreme leader wanted, then, there was no doubt that he might be removed from his position and replaced by another person.
As for the supreme leader, she did not care to try and suppress the other factions. She was the only one outside his faction that knew the reason why the four had gone out. But, she was not willing to talk to help Anthony out.
The thing that was making Anthony feel anxious was the fact that, the group of four that had gone out had spent a lot of time outside of the stronghold. This was something dangerous.
If it was noticed by the people from the other bigger strongholds, they would have to face some kind of punishment. Additionally, if they did something while out and it was judged as a big mistake, then, the group of four might be executed.
If the four of them were killed, then, the power that Anthony would be possessing would drop. Although it had already dropped after Erick's death, but, he still had much influence as compared to the other factions.
But, if he lost the remaining four, they would be only him and Patricia with good combat capabilities. And with that, the influence that he would be possessing would dramatically plummet.
Tak! Tak!
The sound of shoes knocking onto the floor reached Anthony's ears, bringing him out of his thoughts. He looked up and noticed that Patricia was the one that was heading towards him.
Unlike the normal times that she always came over with a simple smile on her face, this time, she looked quite anxious. It was more intense as compared to the time that she was bringing the information that Erick had been killed.
Anthony felt his heart skipping a beat. Nothing went wrong, right? After all, it was not long ago that he had been informed by the group that they were going to make a move. It had just been less than a day, so, they should have already completed the mission and should be on their way back.
"Did something go wrong?" Anthony asked as he got onto his feet.
Despite being a little startled by Anthony's reaction, Patricia still went ahead and nodded her head. She said, "Yes. I don't know what happened, but, as I was monitoring the vitals of the four, I suddenly realized that they were all injured."
Anthony released a sigh of relief after hearing that. Then, he went ahead and said, "It is way better that they have not died. Otherwise, I don't know what I am going to…"
Patricia cut him off before he could finish what he was saying. "Let me finish. All of them were injured almost at the same time. There was just a difference of a few seconds and each and every one of them received a great injury. Although it is not fatal to their life, but, it is able to reduce their combat capabilities by a large margin."
Anthony wanted to say something but, Patricia continued. "Although that might not have been something major, but considering that the duration within which they had been injured, there can be only two explanations about this."
"One is that, they were facing a group of enemies that were stronger than them. For that reason, they were injured almost at the same time through a sneak attack. As for the second one, they might have been facing a superhuman. Only superhumans possess such capabilities of dealing with eight star genetic warriors that easily."
The relief that Anthony had just felt a moment ago finally dissipated. Due to the fact that he was quite anxious, he did not think much about the situation. To him, it was better that none of them had died.
But now that he was being informed of the matter well, he realized just how difficult the situation was. If the group of four was already injured, then, they might have been captured.
And with them being captured, there was no way that they were going to complete the mission that he had given them. And with them failing the mission, the supreme leader of the organization was going to do something about it.
Anthony's expression became a little ugly. He was just about to ask something else and suddenly, Patricia spoke again.
"Although this situation was maintained, and from the vitals, I could not see any other fluctuations other than the ones that occurred the first time, with only some slight fluctuations occurring on Doris's vitals. That implied that, they were no longer fighting. But, something else happened."
As she reached this point, Patricia's expression became somber. "John died. From what I could see with my ability, he was killed by suffocation. He was not able to breathe, and that was how he died."
Bang!
"Damn it!" Anthony was so furious after hearing that, that he kicked the chair that he had been previously sitting on. The poor chair was immediately broken into pieces as it could not handle the strength that was inside that kick.
"How can things go on like this? Is it possible that there is someone that is orchestrating to make sure that I no longer hold the position of the vice supreme leader? But, who could it be that possessed that ability to deal with four guardians at the same time?" Anthony asked.
He did not believe that it was anyone inside his organization. After all, he had realized that, there was nobody in the other factions that had left the organization or the stronghold. That implied that, they might not be the ones that were involved.
The only people that he could suspect were from the other organizations. But, just like how the other organizations were keeping an eye on them, the Panthers organization was also keeping an eye on them.
So far, they had not noticed any strange movements from the other organization's present in the Stronghold. For that reason, Anthony suspected that this might be related to the force that was hiding in the dark.
They had already been suspecting that the death of Erick was related to another force that was trying to make sure that the Panthers organization fought against the Butterfly organization.
But, they had no information about who it was that was in the dark. Additionally, they did not know what benefits the other party was going to get if they fought against each other.
"I don't understand the situation. But, so far, I have noticed that despite the fact that Doris's vitals look a little bad, and it seems that she was the one that was the most injured, the injuries that she had suffered are not that fatal." Patricia continued.
"Nevertheless, we have to act as soon as possible. At least, I have already gotten the location of where they had gone to. So, it is not going to be difficult for us to trace them. Should I go or are you going after them?" Patricia asked finally.
"I will have to go myself. I cannot risk you getting involved in something that we don't know much about. Anyway, it doesn't matter if the other organizations are keeping an eye on us. But, I have to complete the task that I was given by the supreme leader." Anthony stated.
Patricia felt some kind of warmth inside her heart. Despite the fact that Anthony did not love her as a woman, but at least, he cared about her as a friend. But, she knew that it was going to be completely dangerous if Anthony decided to make a move.
"I don't think that is a good idea. John died despite the fact that the group went there with the mirage crystal. If the mirage crystal was used, I am sure that they should have gotten out of there safely." Patricia said worriedly.
