"Mom, have you already completed the investigation? I am getting impatient already." Alicia said to her mother as she approached her.
Ruth looked at her daughter as she sat beside her. Currently, she was wearing denim jeans shorts, a pink t-shirt that accentuated her curves revealing her long legs, and her hair was currently tied in a ponytail.
"I have already done my investigation, but, I have to disappoint you because the results of the investigation are not pleasing at all. I don't even understand what kind of investigation was being done here." Ruth said as she handed over the document that contained the information about Jack.
Curious about the information that had been found, Alicia looked through them, and she was surprised to find out that, everything was just as she had investigated before. In fact, only a few details that she did not know were added, none of them were important.
"How is this possible? This cannot be! Mom, are you sure that you actually sent the best person who is good at collecting information? After all, this piece of information is the same as the one that I collected before." Alicia exclaimed as she looked at her mother.
Ruth remained silent as she looked at her daughter, clearly, from her expression, Alicia could already tell that her mother was not in a good mood.
After a moment of silence, Ruth finally spoke. "The one that was in charge of the investigation was the very best in our family. Additionally, I had informed him to look for detailed information, but, this was all the information that he has brought."
Alicia's mouth hang open as she could not believe this. After all, how could the person that they trusted to look for information, only give them this piece of information? At the end of the day, this piece of information was completely useless to them.
The main reason as to why they had been investigating Jack was simply because they wanted to know about his background. And, from the information that they had received, it seemed that his background was completely 'normal'.
But, that was absolutely impossible. At the end of the day, there was no way that just anybody could reach the superhuman level without the assistance of the people from the stronghold.
In fact, it was not the assistance from the people from the stronghold, but rather, the resources from the stronghold. It was the resources from the stronghold that enabled humans to break the genetic lock after a little training.
"Currently, we are back at zero. We will have to do further investigation. And from how things are, it seems that we will have to meet with Jack himself, so that we can decide on how to progress." Ruth said with a grim expression on her face.
"If that is the case, then I am going there. I have already been tired of David completely disturbing me all this while. It is as if he had noticed that there was something going on, so, he is trying to increase his efforts in making sure that the two of us actually communicate with each other. I absolutely hate it." Alicia said with a disgusted expression on her face.
Ruth looked at her daughter with a stern expression on her face and said, "No matter what, you have to make sure that the relationship between the two of you does not diminish. The hope that you have been expecting all this while is still uncertain. So, unless we confirm the background, and we confirm with his parents that the marriage is possible, you are not allowed to do anything that is going to make David hate you."
Before Alicia could complain, Ruth continued, "As for you going back there, you have to forget about that. The last time you went there, you were almost killed simply because of your actions. And more than that, had it not been for the fact that James was there with you, then, I don't know if I would have ever seen you again.
With you going there, you have already alarmed Jack. That implies that, currently, if we go there, then, there should be someone that will be taking care of us. So, since he said that he was going to make sure that you paid for it, the moment that he sees you, I'm pretty sure that he is going to try and do something to you."
Alicia looked at her mother with a wronged expression on a face. Then, she asked stubbornly, "If I am not allowed to meet him, then, how am I supposed to make him stop hating me? There is no way that I can continue living here, while knowing that he is actually hating me, just waiting for a time that he can take action against me."
"You have no choice young lady! I have already decided and that is final. No matter what, you have to make sure that you remain here in the stronghold." Ruth said as she got to her feet.
Looking at Alicia's expression, Ruth sighed and said, "The movements that we are making has already been detected by others. So, if we continue making any more moves, they are going to try and pay attention to know what it is that we are trying to do. By doing that, they will also notice that we are targeting Jack.
And if they come to know that he is a 20-year-old superhuman, then, it is going to be difficult for us to compete against them if they also want to do the same thing as we are planning.
Moreover, if you go out right now, I'm pretty sure that someone is going to take advantage of this matter, to deal with you. After all, it is not only Jack that wants to deal with you, but, there are several other people that hate our family, and will be willing to risk everything to deal with our us.
You are the only heir of our family. And since that is the case, there is no way that I am going to allow you to risk your life. So, no matter what your feelings are, no matter how frustrated you become, you will not leave the Devin stronghold."
After saying that, Ruth left. She had decided that she had to take action, if possible personally. After all, dealing with someone like Jack was not simple.
A family, or an organization that was capable of creating a 20-year-old superhuman was not simple. And since that was the case, then, she had to show her sincerity by doing things the right way.
Even though it was true that the Devin Stronghold was actually amongst the top strongholds present in the world, that did not imply that it was the biggest. Instead, there were other strongholds that were way bigger than this one, in fact, there was one that was superior to all strongholds.
What Ruth was completely worried about was the fact that, if Jack was actually from the most superior stronghold in the country, then, there was no way that they were going to agree for him to be married into a family of a lower level stronghold.
Of course, Ruth was not willing to give up even if it was true that Jack belonged to a superior stronghold. Currently, they were actually enemies. So, even if she could not manage to tie Jack to their family, at least, she had to ensure that there was no enmity at all.
Although fights between several organizations in the strongholds was being prohibited for now, nobody could guarantee that others could not make moves in the dark. That was especially so for those organizations and families that belonged to the very top strongholds in the world.
As Alicia watched her mother leave, she got frustrated. After all, during this month, she had been spending all her time at home, trying to avoid meeting up with David.
Even though the two of them were currently engaged, she was not willing to be married by him. At the end of the day, she never had any decision in the engagement, and if she was given a choice, she was going to make sure that she annulled it.
And now, the only hope that she saw was through Jack. If Jack agreed to marry her, then, she would no longer have to face David anymore. In fact, she could go ahead and tell him the truth, hiding nothing about how she really didn't like him.
'Even if mother doesn't want me to take action, I'm sorry but I will have to. This is something that concerns my life, and my future. There is no way that I'm going to be involved in a marriage that does not have any love.
Even if David claims that he loves me, we have only talked a few times during the few months that we have been meeting. So, there is no way that I'm going to believe that bullsh*t.
Jack, it is true that you currently hate me, and I can understand that. But nonetheless, there is no way that I'm going to allow you to love any other person other than me.
It doesn't matter what method I'm going to use, but, I will have to make sure that the hatred that you possess towards me will be changed to love.' Alicia thought to herself as determination surged in her heart.
After a moment of contemplation, she finally got to her feet and left the house, going to meet with someone that she believed was going to be of much assistance to her.
