Chapter 299: Sweet Nothings

Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

“Sorry… I didn’t mean to shout. I was just worried for you.” When he looked into her eyes, Lu Zhao’s hardened heart quickly melted. He looked inward with shame. “But the next time you save someone, could you please look out for yourself? You pulled the same stunt at the barbeque shop. It always worries me to no end. What would have happened if I wasn’t by your side?”

Lu Zhao had always been anxious with paranoia whenever Luo Ying was involved.

“Oh, I see. That explains why you were so fierce.” Luo Ying pouted and turned away with a huff.

Lu Zhao was at a loss for a moment. He finally said gently, ,”I wasn’t being fierce. I was just worried.”

“But you still sounded fierce!” Luo Ying struggled to get out of Lu Zhao’s arms.

“I was wrong.” Lu Zhao tightened his grip, worried that she would struggle and hit the corner of the table. “I’m sorry. Don’t be angry, okay?” He gently kissed Luo Ying’s cheek to comfort her.

“Hmph!” Luo Ying still did not turn around.

“Don’t be mad. The strawberry tart and chocolate brownie in this shop are as authentic as they can get.” Lu Zhao gently whispered.

“Really?” Luo Ying was a little suspicious. Lu Zhao could not possibly have made it up, could he? But the allure of desserts was incredible!

“Of course it’s true.” Lu Zhao smiled as he let go. Since Luo Ying enjoyed sweets, he did not reveal to her that he had spent a great deal of time researching their many varieties. He would never forget Luo Ying’s narrowed eyes and happy grin whenever she dug into something tasty.

“Alright then!” Luo Ying gave her reluctant approval, but a grin appeared on her face. The allure of sugary treats was too much for her to ignore.

Lu Zhao also breathed a sigh of relief. He picked up the menu and deftly placed a few orders.

“Don’t worry. Actually, I was here just in time to see her reaching for something from the table. I did not know what it was, but this is a restaurant, so there couldn’t be any chemical weapons, so I went ahead and faced it.” While waiting for dessert to be brought out, Luo Ying spoke up. “Of course I know what I’m doing.”

Lu Zhao smiled as he looked at her proud expression. “All right, I’ll buy that.” The restaurant’s desserts came out shortly after. They lived up to Lu Zhao’s confidence in them.

When Luo Ying first bit into the chocolate brownie, she found that the exterior was crisp while the interior was chewy. The chocolate’s decadent taste put an instant smile on her face.

“Try it?” Luo Ying scooped up a piece and brought it to Lu Zhao’s lips.

Lu Zhao took a small bite. As a matter of fact, he was not particularly fond of sweets.

“Is it really delicious?” Luo Ying asked cheerily. Lu Zhao probably was not used to eating such sweets because he typically ate a healthy diet.

“It is perfect,” said Lu Zhao with a chuckle.

It could have been the company he was with, rather than the dessert itself, that made the experience so enjoyable.

“Who called you, by the way?” As Luo Zhao watched Luo Ying enjoy a variety of sweets, he suddenly recalled that Luo Ying had not joined them earlier.

“It’s my brother.” Luo Ying swallowed a mouthful of cake before continuing.

“Well, this body’s brother.”

“Luo Feng?” Lu Zhao surmised.

Luo Ying nodded. “He must have returned from his mission, so he called to check in.”

In fact, Luo Ying had been quite nervous when she answered the call. She was worried that Luo Feng would instantly call her out as an imposter.

However, Luo Feng did not seem to sense anything amiss. It was probably because he had not seen his sister for quite some time.

“He did not have much to say over the phone. In two days, he will be back at home, and I am sure we will have a long conversation when that happens,” Luo Ying reasoned. Indeed, she had a great deal to share with Luo Feng.

“Ah! Right, I still have to go to the hospital.” Luo Ying suddenly thought of her other brother, Jin Shi.

Because of an unexpected emergency, Jin Shi had to leave the bar early that day. Since then, both their schedules had been quite packed. They had not communicated with each other beyond confirming their safety. Now that she was back home, she could finally see Third Brother.

“Hospital? Are you feeling unwell?” Lu Zhao frowned.

“It’s not me.” Luo Ying waved her hand. “It’s Jin Shi’s sister. It’s his body’s sister.

Do you remember that day at the bar? He received an emergency call and left early. ”

“Yes.” Of course Lu Zhao remembered. If Jin Shi had not left, he would not have been able to pick up Luo Ying.

“Actually, on that day… hi-Jin Shi’s sister was sick.” Luo Ying had a hard time explaining these relationships, but she knew that Lu Zhao could follow. “It seemed to be very serious. She’s been in the ICU for the past few days. Jin Shi is with her right now..”
