Chapter 1440: Eternal Night
"Hiss hiss…"
Green fluid dripped down the Lizardmen’s ugly heads as they flicked their long tongues. The tamers let go of their chains, and they immediately dashed toward us like lightning. We knew this was coming, but what we didn’t expect was the Lizardmen to scale the walls and move directly toward us! As it turned out, they had suckers beneath their feet that gave them the ability to climb almost any surface. They were like geckos except that they were way bigger, more aggressive and more venomous.
Chaos Moon turned a shade of purple as she swore, "Fuck! The Lizardmen can climb walls! All units, line up along the inner walls and knock them down as soon as they reach you! Do it now before it’s too late!"
A group of Dragonlight Cavalry rushed up to the inner walls and looked down. They were immediately stunned by what they saw. Brown-green Lizardmen were hissing and climbing the walls everywhere.
"Attack!"
I grabbed onto an embrasure and sent a dozen or so Lizardmen plummeting toward the ground with Burning Blade Slash. Unfortunately, these deity-rank mobs weren’t going to die this easily, and they immediately resumed climbing after they managed to struggle back to their feet.
Swhoosh...
Despite our best efforts, a good amount of Lizardmen were able to climb up to the edge, grab onto a Dragonlight Cavalryman with all four limbs, and bite them in the neck. Not only did the attack do between 200k to 500k damage, it also poisoned them and reduced their Defense. At least a hundred Dragonlight Cavalrymen turned a greenish complexion, and it was scary to say the least.
"Cleanse them of their status conditions and heal them now!" [1]
While protected by a group of magic knights, Murong Mingyue, Moon Dew and more rushed to heal our frontliners and keep the situation under control.
Pa pa pa…
Technically speaking, there were many more monsters with bigger body size than the Lizardmen. However, they more than made up for it with their powerful Attack and great numbers. In just the blink of an eye, the number of dead Dragonlight Cavalrymen had exceeded a thousand once more. There was no helping it though. We could only wait for more reinforcements to scale up the walls and help deplete the mobs’ numbers.
Whoosh…
Black Dragon Vitas unleashed another dragon breath that claimed a hundred lives, causing Lin Yixin and Stranger of Three Lifetimes to turn blue. No one was expecting the mobs to put up so much resistance that it almost felt like they were the ones who were being attacked and not the other way around.

"Roar roar roar…"
More draconic roars came from within Sainthelm Ruins before six gigantic dragons took to the sky. It was the other six dragons of the Seven Sacred Dragons!
"For fuck’s sake!" Li Chengfeng groaned out loud. "This one dragon is already giving us a hell of a time. How on earth are we going to deal with seven of them at once?"
I leaped into the air and smacked the Black Dragon Vitas with another Purple Frost Concentration. After I landed back on the ground and executed a Coiling Dragon Revolution + Dragon Slaying Slash combo, I said, "If we keep a low profile, the other 6 Sacred Dragons probably won’t attack us. I highly doubt we have the ability to tackle more than 1 dragon anyway!"
"Yeah. Any more than this, and we’ll definitely catch indigestion!"
"Yeah."

Thankfully, the heavens weren’t blind today. Candle Dragon and Warsky Alliance got a Sacred Dragon each, and the other 4 went to Hero Alliance, Cyan Beast, Natural Flow and the Chaotic 27. Above the city, jets of draconic flames were searing the walls’ bricks into red hot stones. Outside the city, countless players were climbing up rows and rows of cloud ladders.
On a related note, the NPC legions had finally begun their assault. Ziyan was commanding a siege battalion that was attempting to smash the gates with a gigantic battering ram. Of course, the Dark Archers responded by raining hell from above and killing countless Sky City NPCs. For some reason, Sky City had been leading the war effort since the very beginning of this March of Chaos event. Maybe it was because Karinshan was the supreme commander of the Silver Moon Alliance, or maybe it was because Sky City was the one and only King of Cities, but the tier 1 city legions from Cyan Earth City, Hero City were still standing by for further orders.
Back to the boss fight, the Sovereign Rank boss's HP was slowly but surely being reduced by our combined efforts. However, it still managed to kill nearly 10,000 players from Ancient Sword Dreaming Souls, Snowy Cathaya and Blazing Hot Lips combined army. Worse still, it was sitting at 30% HP!
"Roar…"
Suddenly, the black dragon let out an especially intimidating roar. I shuddered as I recalled what had happened during our previous Sovereign Rank boss fight. Was the boss going to use its forbidden ultimate skill since its HP had fallen to 30%?
Unfortunately, I was correct. The sunny sky above our heads suddenly turned as dark as the night, and the area within a hundred yards of the boss suddenly felt as cold as ice. Then, some sort of dark energy struck all of us and dealt a massive amount of damage—
2,102,882!
The ultimate skill, "Eternal Night" was a magic attack. The good news was that it failed to one-shot me. The bad news was… how long was "Eternal Night" really going to last?
Xu Yang downed a health potion before uttering in annoyance, "Dammit, why isn’t the combat log showing a duration?"
On the wall, a great number of Dragonlight Cavalry and Holy Mages had been one-shot by the skill. Only the top-tier mages including Lian Xin were surviving and without their Magic Shields.
I protected myself with Battle Astral Wind just in time to eat another powerful swipe from the damned dragon and crash against the wall. While struggling to my feet, I yelled, "Leave the darkened area now!"
Everyone did as I ordered, but there was only so much space on the wall. In the end, not everyone was able to back out of the boss's skill range!
The forbidden spell procced its damage once every 10 seconds. I took no damage from the third strike thanks to Pardon of the Gods, but a couple hundred metal-armor players were one-shot without mercy. A large majority of them happened to be Blazing Hot Lips cavalrymen, which was why Stranger of Three Lifetimes looked like she wanted to eat the dragon’s heart raw. "This goddamned patch is so bullshit! Even elites are one-shot like cannon fodder!"

"Focus on taking out Black Dragon Vitas as soon as possible! We’ll never be able to take back the initiative until it’s dead!"
On the sky, Lin Yixin shouted out order after order while attacking the boss with all her might. On the rampart, Nangong Lexi was shooting powerful arrows at the giant dragon’s stomach as well. She was the strongest archer in the vicinity except for Beiming Xue.
Eternal Night lasted 60 seconds, and thus consisted of seven hits. It dealt a painful blow to our forces and created an empty space on the walls.
Still, we were doing much better than the other guilds.
A far distance away, the silver of the Seven Sacred Dragons was circling around Warsky Alliance’s head and freezing everyone with its icy breath. Even Warsky himself was currently encased in ice. The only way to describe their "battle" was a true massacre. Every time the silver dragon unleashed its icy breath, a whole group of Gold Cavalrymen was sure to drop their deaths. However, very few of them possessed the power to threaten the silver dragon.
Candle Dragon wasn’t faring much better either. They were fighting against a red dragon that turned the entire upper section of the walls into a sea of flames. Candlelight Shadow was doing his best to avoid the flames and fight against the boss, but it was clear from his seared battle garment that it wasn’t going very well. Blue Sky Scar, Tempest Shadow and more had fallen very low on health as well.
Of course, the other servers weren’t faring much better either. Everyone was chipping away at the boss's HP little by little at the cost of many lives. Worse still, the NPC legions looked like they might enter the fray at any moment. If they began attacking the boss, there was a good chance we wouldn’t receive any experience, and that was simply unacceptable. The only good news was that the perimeter of Sainthelm Ruins was more or less conquered if we managed to defeat these Seven Sacred Dragons.

The boss fight lasted for almost an hour. While the Dragonlight Cavalry were keeping the Lizardmen, Dark Magi, undead tamers, and many more mobs at bay, the archers, mages and dragon knights focused on mowing down Black Dragon Vitas’ HP. Finally, the boss dropped to just 2% HP. As if weighed by exhaustion and all the injuries it had suffered until this point, the black dragon’s attack finally began weakening as well.
Meanwhile, the NPC regents of the rest of the main cities finally unsheathed their Blades of Kings [2] and ordered the all-out assault. Countless elite cavalrymen galloped across the ground, and swarms of griffins blotted out the sky itself. The griffin riders wore excellent leather armor and wielded giant lightning spears. Obviously, their attack method was similar to the spear-throwing flyers we fought at Crossroads Valley.
"Pooh…"
Li Chengfeng spat while swinging his Crimson Refinement Sword. "These shameless NPCs! If they had attacked sooner than whatever, but no, they waited until the boss was almost out of HP before they launched their assault! We lost nearly 30k elites to this motherfucker, and now they’re threatening to claim the spoils for themselves!"
I declared, "It’s no problem. 2% is just 10 million HP. We’ll use our high-cooldown skills at the same time and delete this black dragon in one go!"
Lin Yixin waved her dagger with a dazzling smile on her face. "Wait until I use Extreme Break, okay? I’ll count down from three!"
"Mn!"
After the countdown was finished, Lin Yixin zipped toward the boss, took a blow to the shoulder, and stabbed the boss's eyes with Extreme Break!
That was our cue to go all out!
I hurriedly backed a few steps and summoned the Xuanyuan Slash. Not only that, purple draconic energy began circulating madly around my body. Now was the time to execute the Xuanyuan Slash + Purple Dragon Howl combo!
Li Chengfeng used his Crimson Firmament Slash + Dragonblade Revolution combo, He Yi used her Stormwind Slash + Stormwind Break combo, and Gui Guzi his Hundred Ghosts Descent + Burning Blade Slash combo. Lin Yixin herself thrust out with a deadly Universe Break. All five of us were using our strongest killer combos!
Bang bang bang bang…
The black dragon roared again and again. I bet this was the first time it ever received such "luxurious" treatment in its life!
Countless damage numbers rose from the boss's head as multiple types of energies ravaged its body. For a moment, most of the players on the walls stopped fighting to admire the rare view. It wasn’t every day one saw this many Ancient Divine Skills and high-cooldown AoE skills being used at the same time after all!
"Roar roar…"
The Black Dragon Vitas let out one last roar before it finally dropped dead.
Lin Yixin’s Barrier Break was the skill that dealt the last hit, so she immediately jumped a level. At the same time, countless items and magic stones erupted from the boss's body.
