Chapter 1424: Soul Shocker Bell

+724,991!

However, Gui Guzi was incredibly difficult to kill. The Undying Shield alone was a pain to deal with as it converted 50% of the damage he received as HP. Breeze and Rain looked like he would spit blood if he could.

Lin Yixin and He Yi immediately came to Gui Guzi’s rescue, but the Agility Warrior was no idiot. He was completely outnumbered, and he had already spent his element of surprise. Without hesitation, he gave the Purple Wing Unicorn’s neck a slap and flew back to the ground, effectively giving up the boss.

"Now!"

I backed about a dozen of meters away from the boss and activated both Fusion Armor and Heavenly River Transformation. Purple Dragon Howl was unusable while mounted, so I had to cancel it and use Heavenly River Transformation to keep myself temporarily afloat in the air. I raised the Chill of the Nine Provinces high above my head and gathered a tremendous amount of purple dragon energy around its blade. Then, I unleashed it all at Coldblade.

"You think you can kill me? Dream on!"

Coldblade’s face looked horrible. It was completely covered in cuts and blood. He waved his hand and summoned an Ice Shield, but it was nothing like the first Ice Shield that had blocked my Purple Dragon Howl perfectly. This one looked like a strong hit or two could destroy it completely.

He Yi and Lin Yixin realized this and didn’t hesitate to unleash their Stormwind Break, Extreme Break and more. Li Chengfeng’s Dragonblade Revolution was the last blow necessary to shatter it completely.

Whoosh!

Purple Dragon Howl[1] arrived right on cue and engulfed Coldblade completely, dealing massive amounts of damage. The Purgatory Sovereign had finally reached the end of his life—

1,072,833!

1,128,374!

1,093,737!

……

The skill hit Coldblade around ten times, triggering one septuple damage effect and two critical hits for a total damage of 20 million. Even if Coldblade had 1 billion total HP, 1% of that was just 10 million. There was no way he could survive this!

Crack!

His sword fell toward the ground after his sword arm crumbled into bits of flesh and blood under the devastating power that was Purple Dragon Howl. Face twisted into an expression of abject anger, he howled, "Ahhhh… Sophie, Xinran, Karinshan, just you wait! I may die, but the Purgatory Ruler will take revenge for me! The flames of vengeance will engulf the entire continent, and my death will only quicken your extinction! I—"

Before he could finish, Xinran abruptly threw her Dragonbone Spear at Coldblade’s face. It passed right through his head, ended his miserable life, and caused a shower of equipment, magic stones, gems and skill books to erupt from his body.

Thud!

I made an air dash up to the boss's body before asking, "Should I keep the loot?"

He Yi nodded.

A sense of satisfaction filled up my heart as I grabbed hold of all of Coldblade’s loot. At the same time, a system announcement resounded across the entire map and officially confirmed that Coldblade was my kill—

Ding~!

Congratulations to player "Broken Halberd Sinks Into Sand" for killing one of the Nine Purgatory Sovereigns, Coldblade the Infinite Storm! They have gained 9 Luck, 1,000,000 Reputation, 1,200,000 March of Chaos contribution points, and the ultimate treasure Coldblade the Infinite Storm was carrying, "Soul Shocker Bell (Seventy-two Ghost Armaments, Outstanding★★★★★★★★★)”!

……

I checked my status screen thinking that I would almost be at Level 250 already, but no. My Level had only jumped to 247, and even the Ancient Divine Dragon was still a hair away from reaching Level 200. Just how much experience did it take to level the damn mount? Onto better news, I was back to 124 Luck despite everything I had donated to create the Holy Mages. The reason killing Coldblade rewarded me with 9 Luck was probably because there were only so many Nine Purgatory Sovereigns. At any rate, it was a most generous reward!

I looked inside my bag again and noted that there was a shiny, fuchsia-colored necklace lying among a pile of equipment. Tsk tsk, so this was the Soul Shocker Bell, was it? It had a pretty good name, but I hoped its effects would be even better.

Thud!

He Yi, Lin Yixin, Gui Guzi, Li Chengfeng and more started walking up to me after I finally descended back to the ground, but the first person to actually reach me first was Xinran. The beautiful girl had tossed her Dragonbone Spear aside, opened her arms and jumped right into my embrace. She said softly, "It’s been so, so long since we’ve last seen each other, big brother…"

I beamed back at her. "Yeah. We gotta stop meeting on battlefields like this!"

Behind us, Sophie let out a cough before saying, "Xinran, you’re one of the symbols of the Violet Empire, you know? You shouldn’t be throwing yourself into a stranger’s arms, much less a man’s…"

Xinran flushed but argued, "What do you mean? Big brother is no stranger!"

A smiling Karinshan walked up to us—one of her arms was still broken and unusable—and dropped to one knee. A respectful salute later, she said, "Thank you so much for coming to our rescue, Lady Wind Singer, Lady Sophie. Without you two, the Silver Moon Alliance would most likely have faltered under Coldblade and Thunder’s combined assault!"

Xinran nodded. "You give us too much credit, Your Majesty!"

Sophie asked, "Are you planning any more assaults, Your Majesty? I have brought an army of millions with me on this expedition. I can lend them to you if you don’t mind commanding an army of undead. I have witnessed the death of my nemesis, Coldblade, so I no longer have any regrets left in this life."

Karinshan nodded. "Thank you for your trust, Lady Sophie!"

Karinshan then rose to her feet and pointed directly to the south. "The forgotten ruins of a main city called the Sainthelm Ruins lie over there. It is now a world of ice and snow. However, our magi detected a huge concentration of death energy over there—it is most likely the origin point of the Purgatory Legion—which is why I plan to attack it with everything we’ve got. I wish to eliminate the undead threat once and for all and make it so that the humans, elves, succubi and more won’t ever have to live in fear anymore."

Sophie smiled. "Yes, I can detect several powerful energies to the south as well. Now then, let us prepare for our next march!"

"Yes, Lady. I will chart our attack route right away!"

……

While the NPCs were conversing with one another, us players were busy salivating over Coldblade’s loot. I opened my bag and counted the number of items Coldblade had dropped. There were five. The first was the Soul Shocker Bell, the second was a helmet, the third was a dark green–colored traditional yaoqin, the fourth was a beast-shaped ring, and the fifth was a sea blue–colored scepter. Even before looking at their stats, they all looked like amazing equipment. Well, I did have over 110 Luck when I killed Coldblade. It was almost impossible for me to drop bad equipment!

I picked up the Soul Shocker Bell first. The fuchsia-colored necklace had a small bell for a pendant that, contrary to its name, rang rather melodiously to my ears. That impression lasted until I brought up its stats screen—

Soul Shocker Bell (Seventy-two Ghost Armaments, Outstanding★★★★★★★★★★)

Stamina: +2780

Strength: +2800

Agility: +2450

Tactics: +145

Ghost Armament: Soul Shocker. Magic attacks cast by magic classes deal 100% more damage to the target.

Level Requirement: 240

Reputation Requirement: 2000000

……

"Holy shit!"

Li Chengfeng clenched his fists and declared without hesitation, "This Soul Shocker Bell is absolutely a godlike piece of equipment for mages! It even has nine Outstanding stars! This is literally the best version it can be!"

I nodded. "Yes, dealing 100% increased damage is nothing like having your Magic Attack boosted by 100%. It’s like having your spells crit 100% of the time, but you can stack another crit for even more damage!"

He Yi smiled. "Very well. Who will be rolling for this ring? How many mages had participated in the assault against Coldblade?"

I did a quick check before replying, "Only three mages had damaged Coldblade, and they are Lian Xin with over 4.9 million damage done, Moonlight Stone with over 1.7 million damage done, and Yu Tong with over 900k damage done."

Yu Tong stuck out her tongue. "Hmm, my damage dealt is too low. I won’t be participating in this loot roll."

I shook my head and said, "Absolutely not. If you’re in the Top 3, then you deserve to roll for the loot. We do this by the book."

In private though, I sent Lian Xin a private message: "Please win this Soul Shocker Bell, Little Xin. You are our number one mage, so this necklace will be best used by you. Get it!"

Lian Xin burst into a giggle and shot me a sweet smile.

……

The dice rolling began, and all three mages looked like they might suffocate from sheer tension. When the virtual dices came to a stop, the victor was—

Moonlight Stone: 37

Yu Tong: 11

Lian Xin: 51

That was dicey! Lian Xin didn’t roll her a high number, but she still won the necklace!

"Heehee! It’s mine!"

Lian Xin was so happy that she turned around to hug He Yi and Murong Mingyue while stomping her feet. The Soul Shocker Bell immediately appeared above her chest after I tossed the item to her. Speaking of chest, her body had filled out wonderfully during the couple of years she studied overseas. I couldn’t deny my eyes were affixed to a pair of flesh even more appealing than the Soul Shocker Bell itself. Anyway, Lian Xin was the perfect mage to have this Ghost Armament because she had the hidden class, Phantasm of Stars. Even before she got the necklace, she was already powerful enough to give warriors like me and Li Chengfeng a massive headache. Now that her damage was doubled… Yeah, I think I’m going to avoid pissing her off as much as possible from now on.

……

Next, I held up the fiery red helmet and brought up its stats screen. It was pretty much as extraordinary as I expected it to be—

Sky Crystal Helmet (Sacred Armament, Outstanding★★★★★★★★)

Magic Resist: 13,700

Strength: +2650

Stamina: +2700

Outstanding Property: Sky Crystal Shield. When attacked, 18% of the damage received is nullified, and 50% of that nullified damage is converted into HP.

Level Requirement: 240

Reputation Requirement: 1,700,000

……

"Oh, a Sacred Armament! It’s been a while since I saw a Sacred Armament!"

I held up the Sky Crystal Helmet and said, "Sacred Armaments are really just Divine Armaments with a different name, and their quality varies between Cambrian, Hadean, Archean, and Ancient. Alright, the Top 10 metal-armor class players with the highest DPS against Coldblade, please step forward to roll for the loot…"

Gui Guzi said, "Dude, did you forget the battle? Only me and you engaged Coldblade..."

I nodded before continuing, "I have the Fire God Helmet, and I’m not willing to give up on its OP skill, Rise of the Guardian Dragon. Is there anyone else who wishes to forfeit? Chengfeng? Yiyi? Eve?"

No one else was willing to forfeit, however. I shook my head and said, "You guys need a refresher class in modesty…"

Li Chengfeng’s mouth twitched. "Modesty, my ass. You may have the Fire God Helmet, but we only have mid-game Immortal-grade helmets at best. Of course we’re not giving up on this…"

I laughed. "Fine, fine. Alright, start rolling already, people! We still have three pieces of equipment to roll!"

"Mn!"

1. T/N: I’m just going to pretend that Purple Dragon Howl’s cooldown has been reduced to an hour or so after max upgrade, or the previous one didn’t count because of a boss denying his victory moment. The latter one can actually makes sense because it was a bullshit moment ☜
