Chapter 1416: The Taste of a Goddess

At 50% HP, Thunder was gradually overwhelming even the brave warriors of Ancient Sword Dreaming Souls. Xu Yang, Heaven’s Rain, Diamond Dust and more Famous Generals had already been killed. The number of players who could clash swords with the boss and survive to tell the tale could be counted on one hand, and the ground was absolutely covered in dead bodies. This battle was easily worse than the battle against Skullblood. At very least, our casualty rate wasn’t nearly as high.

……

"What do we do…"

Li Chengfeng was breathing heavily, and his Crimson Refinement Sword was shaking a little from exertion. "We’ve almost run out of priests. Without them, everybody we throw at Thunder is almost certainly going to turn into a corpse. Warsky Alliance is already annihilated, and we will follow them if we don’t do something soon."

I gritted my teeth and ordered, "Retreat into the fortress! It’s time to rely on the NPCs to defend us! We simply don’t have the strength to hold Thunder back any longer!"

Everyone nodded and started running toward the ruins that were once walls.

However, Candlelight Shadow pointed his sword at Thunder and ordered, "Ancient Sword has retreated, so it’s our turn to challenge the boss now! Qiu Beast Cavalry, Charge the boss in hundred-man parties. Priests and mages, keep within range of your cavalrymen! Use Shock Arrows and Ice Arrow Spells to control the boss! Tamers, spam your Lantern Girls’ God Devil Breaks like no tomorrow! No matter how powerful the boss is, he is only one person. He is not as scary as you imagine!"

The Qiu Beast Cavalry immediately obeyed their leader and bravely Charged toward the boss.

……

Whoosh whoosh…

A cold wind blew up Thunder’s cloak. The Purgatory Sovereign might be an absolute asshole, but he was also a general who had thrived in a hellish environment like the Purgatory for countless years. He watched Candle Dragon’s army coldly for a moment before swinging his blade in their direction, killing dozens of Qiu Beast Cavalrymen in a single hit. Then, he dropped a Thunder Abyss that annihilated over a hundred tamers with Life of the Tamer.

Chiang!

Candlelight Shadow’s first strike was blocked, but he immediately kicked the hilt of the Blade of Thunder before following up with a triple-hit Blazing Purgatory Slash to the head. It dealt a considerable amount of damage—

271,626!

261,552!

251,909!

Thunder sneered and punched Candlelight Shadow’s fire dragon in the head. Then, he turned his wrist and slashed the warrior three times across the shoulder, sending both him and his dragon crashing into the ruins at least a hundred meters away from the point of impact. When Candlelight Shadow climbed out of the rubble, his HP bar showed only 10% or so. It was only now he realized just how powerful the boss was. Be it single target or multi-target, Thunder’s ability to kill was absolutely flawless!

God’s Dance knew this the moment she saw the outcome of the clash. She said urgently, "We need to withdraw our forces after the last wave of hundred-man cavalry takes off. Thunder is too strong, and we are simply no match for him. Let us withdraw into the fortress and leave the NPCs to fight him just like Ancient Sword!"

Candlelight Shadow nodded. "Yeah, we underestimated the boss. Retreat!"

And so the rest of Candle Dragon’s forces retreated while leaving the couple hundred players fighting Thunder to die. It was simply something that needed to be done. They would’ve lost even more men if they hadn’t left behind their "tail" like a lizard.

……

There were a ton of arrow towers inside the fortress. Although they were hastily-built constructions, every arrow tower was manned by 3 to 5 Silver Moon Alliance archers. They were only Level 310 fiend-rank NPCs, and they were nowhere as powerful as the deity-rank Thunder Devil Soldiers.

When Thunder’s figure entered a ray of moonlight, hundreds of arrow towers fired their projectiles at once!

Bang bang bang…

However, almost all of the projectiles were deflected by the thunderous energy surrounding his body. He said with a dark expression on his face, "Do you really think you can kill me with these puny towers, Karinshan, Sophie? The ignorance! You’d better show me your true strength soon, or you will regret it. Show me the trump cards you’ve hidden for centuries! Show me the forces you’ve trained to combat our Purgatory Legion!"

After he said this, Thunder suddenly broke the rules of the game and cast dozens of Thunder Abysses with almost no pause at all. To say that what happened next was horrific would be a massive understatement. Dozens of arrow towers were obliterated at once, and a countless sea of NPCs had been killed. The boss then rushed toward the troop of NPC cavalrymen charging him and cleaved them in half with an absolutely massive cone-shaped sword aura.

The remnants of Ancient Sword Dreaming Souls and I could only watch the brutal scene helplessly from afar. Thunder’s strength had skyrocketed the moment he made contact with the NPCs, and to engage him now was to commit suicide.

Webs of lightning nearly hundred meters wide ravaged the inner grounds of the fortress. At least tens of thousands of Silver Moon Alliance NPC soldiers were killed all too easily. During a lull, Thunder let out an arrogant laugh and asked, "What’s wrong? Where is your so-called bravery, humans? Speaking of humans, come over and fight me already, Karinshan. I thought you were the best woman, strategist and general humanity had to offer? Show me what you’re made of. I will find you even if you hide yourself like a rat, and I will take you back to the Purgatory and show you what it really means to be a woman. Surely a powerful man like me is worthy of a woman like you? Hahahaha…"

There was a flurry of movement from one of the watchtowers while Thunder was taunting Karinshan. The next moment, a vermillion-colored figure jumped down from it—it was none other than Karinshan herself—and ran across thin air with all the grace of a lithe dancer, and brought her sword down on Thunder’s shoulder. At the same time, golden battle energy surrounded her sword completely!

Bang!

Caught off-guard, Thunder suffered a direct hit and was sent crashing into a giant succubi totem. His shoulder armor was utterly crushed as well.

Crack crack…

Thunder pushed away the rubble covering his person and rose to his feet. After tasting his own black blood for a little, he looked at the floating Karinshan and suddenly broke into a smile. "Hahaha! What a surprise! To think that Princess Karinshan, greatest commander of the Silver Moon Alliance, would step into the realm of divines after cultivating for a thousand years and coming back to life! Hahaha…"

Karinshan’s arms and legs were both empowered by divine energy right now. She watched Thunder indifferently as she said, "You have already betrayed the Roland Empire, and now you help Lin Na destroy the rebuilt continent and order too? Today, you must die to appease the countless braves in the afterlife!"

However, Thunder licked his lips and said, "None of that matters. What matters is that you are a divine expert…"

Karinshan’s brows knitted. "So what if I am?"

Thunder’s gaze turned vulgar as he licked his lips lustfully. "I just want to tell you that I’ve toyed with the virgins of dukes, undying banshees, powerful abyssal witches and beautiful elf queens, but I’ve never toyed with a divine woman before. It looks like you are going to help me fulfill my dreams…"

Karinshan’s expression instantly turned furious. "Do you know who you’re talking to, Thunder? You are courting death!"

Thunder remained perfectly unafraid. "Of course I know who I’m talking to. The real question is, do YOU know who you’re talking to? There are 11 of us divine experts in the Purgatory, but how many divine experts are there in the human world? I may be the weakest of all the gods of the Purgatory, but I’m still more than enough to teach you, a baby of the divine way, a lesson, hahaha!"

Karinshan was literally shaking with anger at this point.

In the sky, the Green Dragon Knight Tia brandished her spear and uttered, "You don’t need to waste your breath on this animal, princess! The five of us shall fight with you until Thunder’s head is removed from his shoulders! Also, three of the eleven divine experts he speaks of, Strella the Dark Magma, Ovia the Bloody Finger and Skullblood the Earth Devourer have already been killed by our adventurers. It’s only a matter of time before this weakling perishes with them as well!"

"Little brat!"

The amusement in Thunder’s eyes faded away completely, and he abruptly vanished from view. The next moment, he appeared behind Tia, stabbed her through her chest armor and caused a jet of blood to escape her lips. She turned around just in time to see Thunder punching her with his lightning fist and sent both her and her green dragon crashing into the ground. The resulting pit was huge and seemingly bottomless, and the air above the pit crackled with lightning. It was impossible to tell if Tia had survived the assault.

"Tia…"

Karinshan muttered dazedly as she stared at the pit. Then, body shaking and infinite hatred overflowing from her eyes, she abruptly shot toward Thunder like lightning and clashed blades with the Purgatory Sovereign. After both divine experts pushed each other away with a kick, Thunder raised his palm and shouted, "Thunder Abyss!"

Boom!

Lightning ripped through Karinshan’s body and shredded her battle robes. However, she refused to take even a step backward. It took only the blink of an eye for the perishable materials of her clothes to crumble away, leaving behind only a suit of dark gold armor. She was breathing heavily, and the armor around her chest area was stained with blood.

Enraged and humiliated, Karinshan abruptly cried, "Freeze!"

Buzz!

The surrounding temperature abruptly plummeted, and countless icicles appeared all around Karinshan. She then sent them all flying toward Thunder. Not expecting the swift counterattack, Thunder could only curl into a ball and surround himself in protective lightning!

Bang bang bang bang…

When the assault was over, a groan and a few drops of black blood escaped Thunder’s lips. The battle was just beginning, however. He abruptly teleported behind Karinshan and hit her with a thunderous five-hit flurry. Karinshan turned around with all her might and shattered the armor around his waist with a single slash, but Thunder immediately retaliated with another kick.

Boom!

A watchtower collapsed into ruins with Karinshan right in the middle of it. Her flawless features were cut, and blood slid down her cheeks like bloody tears.
