Beiming Xue exclaimed in shock while retreating to safety with less than 25% HP. She was one of the few archers who had survived the AoE skill. The boss's rock-raining skill had a range of almost 1000 yards, so many guilds had lost almost all of their archers and bards. Even the 50k Dragonlight Archers we had left behind on the walls lost about half their numbers, although the remaining half still had 50% or so HP left.
It was the advantage of being a mounted archer. Mounted archers had much higher HP than a normal archer thanks to their mounts, or even they would be hard-pressed to survive the powerful AoE skill.

After I crawled out of the pile of rock that had buried me under and dusted away the dust on my shoulders, I raised my sword without hesitation and activated the Life skill of my Xuanyuan Art. Everyone within 1000 yards of me instantly regained 50% of their HP!
Vienna’s Sorrow and many more combatants turned around to glance at me. "The Chill of the Nine Provinces truly is a great weapon!"
I said nothing and simply rushed toward the boss's right wing and fired Burning Blade Slash + Universe Break combo at it. Without pause, I summoned the Phantom Wolf King to unleash another attack while I moved to another position. Basically, my plan was to change my location every time I scored a successful hit on the boss, thus minimizing its chance of catching me with a retaliatory strike. Li Chengfeng, Gui Guzi, Chaos Moon, He Yi and everyone else were using the same hit-and-run tactic. Against a super boss like this, surviving equaled higher DPS.
Cyan Beast’s army of Gold Cavalry seemed almost endless. They kept charging toward the boss's lower neck and hacked away with their weapons without fear. All around the boss, the Dragonlight Cavalry, the Iron Cutter Cavalry, the Cyanscale Cavalry and more were doing their best to cut down the boss as well. Skullblood was without a doubt a terrifying boss, but its gigantic body also meant that it could be attacked by thousands of players at once. Even for a so-called defense-type boss, its HP was dropping at a visible rate. The human sea tactic was just that OP!
About ten minutes later, the Earth Devourer decided that it was time to do earth-devouring things. After it let out a screeching roar, it crushed a ton of buildings with a swing of its head before opening its mouth. Then, a powerful suction force started drawing in everyone who happened to be standing in its way. Laughing At The Heavens [1] stabbed his spear deep into the ground before barking at his men, "The boss is trying to suck us into its stomach! Find an obstacle to hide behind and steady yourselves!"
I frowned. The cone-shaped skill had a range of 100 yards, and, at maximum range, a width of 25 yards.
What on earth is this skill anyway? I checked the combat log. It stated: Skullblood the Earth Devourer used "Earth Devouring”. The skill lasts 10 seconds!

10 seconds? I could only pray that Laughing At The Heavens and his Cyanscale Cavalrymen would last that long!

The players weren’t the only ones who were sucked into the boss's mouth. All the debris on the ground was being pulled toward it as well. As if on cue, the Cyanscale Cavalry abruptly left the ground and was swallowed into its stomach before they could so much as make a scream. As the soil on the ground itself was being dragged toward the boss's maw, Laughing At The Heavens’ spear abruptly snapped under the pressure. Then, he and the several meters wide piece of rock beneath his mount flew into the air at the same time.
Bang bang bang…
Speaking of which, did you know that Skullblood had razor-sharp teeth deep within its throat? The instant the rocks, soil and players made contact with them, they were crushed to bits almost like they were put through a grinder. Almost a thousand Cyanscale Cavalrymen were dead just like that.
"This… this is insane. Laughing At The Heavens was literally ground to smithereens…" Lin Bing Dou Zhe muttered in dumb shock.
Warsky ordered through gritted teeth, "Maintain formation integrity and don’t stop attacking!"
However, the moment the 10-second skill came to an end, and the ground directly in front of Skullblood had turned into a giant pit, it abruptly opened its maw and discharged everything it had devoured earlier. The rocks, the soil, the bodies; they all slammed into Warsky’s formation with the force of a thousand sandstorms!

October Rain shouted at him from afar, "We’re taking way too many casualties! You need to spread out our forces!"
Warsky replied through gritted teeth, "How the fuck are we supposed to do that? There’s people everywhere! Our luck is just shit today!"

However, Skullblood turned away from Warsky almost as if it was trying to refute his claim. The next moment, Hero Alliance suffered a bombardment of rock and earth that killed an entire line of cavalrymen and even some of the priests and bards at the back. That was over a thousand players dead just like that.
Vienna’s Sorrow looked furious enough to shatter his own teeth. To vent that anger, he flew to the top of Skullblood’s head and whacked its skull a couple of times with his sword. It was super effective. Skullblood looked up to glare at the dragon knight for an instant before batting him away like a cannonball. Both man and dragon sailed at least a couple hundred meters through the air before slamming into the fortress wall. He looked horrible, and his HP had dropped to 50% or so.
Breeze and Rain instinctively opened his palm to cast Soul Refining Cage, but he canceled it midway and swore under his breath, "Fuck, I almost forgot that this motherfucker is immune to all magic. Guys, we need to find a way to disrupt the boss's rhythm! Otherwise, we’re all going to die to its Earth Devouring skill! It's pure luck it hasn’t chosen to slaughter us just now!"
Somewhere near the perimeter, Little Piglet scored a couple of vicious hits that caused Skullblood’s entire body to tremble with pain. The boss swung its tail at Little Piglet’s shoulder in retaliation, but Little Piglet refused to go down, almost as if he was trying to prove something. He stabbed his sword into the ground to cancel his backward momentum as soon as he could before catching onto the boss's giant tail. Then, he stabbed it with an Ice Blade Shatter and dealt an amazing 400k+ damage. Defense-ignoring skills were super good against this boss.
"Roar roar.."
In pain, Skullblood raised its claws and struck Little Piglet three times in a row, dropping his HP to just 10% or so. One more hit would kill him outright.
I couldn’t let Little Piglet die here, or we would have one less force to keep Cyan Earth City in check with.
So, I leaped forward and lashed out with Burning Blade Slash + Universe Break combo. I was in Lu Buyi’s party, so all of my stats were increased by 150%. My HP and Defense in particular had reached unprecedented heights as a result. Not only did the combo torment the boss greatly, my Universe Break even triggered the Chill of the Nine Provinces’ special effect and dealt 7 times more damage than normal—

Skullblood’s aggro was transferred to me in an instant. The other peak-level players such as Breeze and Rain, God of War, Tear Stain and more were shellshocked by my damage as well. I crossed the Chill of the Nine Provinces in front of me to block Skullblood’s attacks. Not only did my sword feel scorching hot, a crack appeared from its edge to indicate that it had suffered massive durability damage. I also blocked one of the swipes with the Cyan Dragon Shield, and now there were three deep scars on its surface. The bastard’s Attack was just too high!
On the rampart, Murong Mingyue healed me for around 700k HP while shouting, "Control your DPS and survive, Lu Chen! Do you seriously need me to teach you what it means to stand out against overwhelming force?"
I swung my sword with the biggest amount of strength I had mustered to date and somehow managed to knock the boss's claws away from me.

As if it felt that its authority was challenged, Skullblood let out another angry roar and attempted to bite me again!

I backed a few steps and crouched down a little. Then, I injected a tremendous amount of strength into my Chill of the Nine Provinces and threw it straight into the boss's mouth!

To my surprise, Coiling Dragon Revolution pierced through the ceiling of the boss's mouth, the brain and even the skull before spinning back to my hand! As it turned out, I had triggered the septuple damage effect of the Chill of the Nine Provinces again and a critical hit at the same time. Thanks to it, I was able to deal an unprecedented amount of damage to the Purgatory Sovereign!

The boss had a max HP of several hundred million, and you could still see an entire chunk of its HP vanishing into nothing. The strike stunned every expert in the area. No one could imagine a player dealing so much damage to a boss like that until it happened.
Breeze and Rain exchange a serious glance with God of War. The latter muttered in a low tone, "It’s no surprise, but the West King is a threat that must be removed so long as he stays in the China server!"

The exploding sparks on my Cyan Dragon Shield began anew, and I shouted while running away with less than 50% HP, "Are you guys here to fight or watch a movie, Cyan Earth City, Hero City, Burning City??"
It was only then Tear Stain, Breeze and Rain and everyone else returned to themselves and saved me from certain death by once again attacking the boss and drawing away the aggro.

The slumbering devil beneath the Godslayer Fortress really is Skullblood the Earth Devourer, one of the Nine Purgatory Sovereigns. Ray of Sunshine, go get 'em as we had discussed earlier. The bards will give you all the buffs you need, and the priests will focus all their healing on you!"
Ray of Sunshine spurred his Ink Qilin [2] forward. The golden necklace around his neck could only be the Heaven Suppressing Necklace, a Ghost Armament that granted him 100% lifesteal. It was easily the Purgatory Mad Dragon’s most prized possession. After defeating many, many powerful bosses they couldn’t before, Wang Dongliang grew arrogant enough to declare, "Together with sunshine, we shall conquer the world”. It was a testament to Ray of Sunshine’s strength.
