Chapter 11 - Mei Xinxue
Ye Hao turned away from the pond, his expression devoid of emotion.
“You're seriously holding me back.” Mei Xinxue pivoted, her gaze now locked onto the pond, her expression turning grave.
Mei Xinxue was acutely aware that confronting demons was no walk in the park.
With her Peachwood Sword drawn from her back, she etched an Eight Trigrams Array Diagram onto the ground. Then, she produced a Talisman Paper, uttering, “Amnesty.”
The moment her fingers ignited the Talisman Paper, it erupted into a golden radiance, vanishing into the pond.
And so, Mei Xinxue waited, but time passed without any sign.
“What's going on? Could the Demon-capturing Talisman have failed, or is that creature too formidable?” Mei Xinxue brooded, her expression clouded.
She pondered, “The likelihood of the Demon-capturing Talisman failing is too slim. It seems the latter is the only feasible explanation.”
Yet, contemplation of the second option triggered a determination not to flee in Mei Xinxue.
Despite taking a few strides, she halted.
Cowardice did not align with her character.
After brief reflection, Mei Xinxue ignited two Talisman Papers concurrently.
The two Talisman Papers metamorphosed into twin golden beams, fusing mid-air into an even mightier radiance.
The effulgence swiftly vanished into the pond.
Waiting for an interval, Mei Xinxue turned on her heels and sprinted.
Before long, she spotted Ye Hao gazing at her.
“Run!” Mei Xinxue urged Ye Hao.
“Why would I run?” Ye Hao shrugged, stating, “There are no demons in this river.”
“No demons?” Mei Xinxue stood flabbergasted.
She contemplated, “You know what? Perhaps even if the Talisman Paper failed, there never was a demon in the first place!”
Coming to a halt, Mei Xinxue suddenly had a realization. She asked, “How come you're unharmed?”
“What could possibly happen to me?” Ye Hao responded with a faint smile.
Mei Xinxue regarded Ye Hao with a mixture of astonishment and suspicion.
Logically speaking, undoing the Charm Talisman shouldn't be so straightforward.
Yet, a thought struck her immediately.
“How do you know there are no demons in the pond?”
“Because a skilled expert had dispatched that demon.”
“Were you present during the incident?”
“Yes.”
“Why didn't you mention this earlier?”
“I didn't find the opportunity to mention it.”
Mei Xinxue pondered this and realized it was indeed her oversight.
Of course, admitting to it was out of the question.
“I'm leaving.” Mei Xinxue returned to the pond, stepping onto the ground to erase the Eight Trigrams Array Diagram.
Observing Mei Xinxue's departure, Ye Hao hurriedly caught up with her. He implored, “Wait.”
“What do you want?”
“Could you teach me the incantation you employed when fighting against the demons?”
“I only teach women, not men.”
“Times have changed, society has progressed. Shouldn't your rules be appropriately adjusted?”
Mei Xinxue contemplated this for a moment and nodded. “Your point is valid. In that case, I'll revise the rules. You can learn magic from me.”
“Really?” Ye Hao's face lit up.
“Absolutely. If you make a single, clean cut and part with your genitals, I'll start teaching you right away.” Mei Xinxue responded, extending an intricate dagger towards Ye Hao.
Ye Hao shook his head, firmly saying, “No.”
Anticipating his response, Mei Xinxue took back the dagger gracefully.
Yet in that instant, Ye Hao quickly snatched the dagger from her hand.
“Since you're not up for sharing the demon-slaying skill, then how about this dagger instead?” Ye Hao grinned while clutching the weapon.
“You dare pilfer my belongings?” Mei Xinxue grabbed at Ye Hao's shoulder angrily.
Amid heightened tension, Ye Hao activated his time-slowing vision in a snap.
Through his altered perception, Mei Xinxue's movements decelerated by a factor of ten.
However, despite the deceleration, evading her attack still seemed nearly impossible to Ye Hao.
Mei Xinxue regarded Ye Hao with surprise, immediately adapting her approach to grab him anew.
This time, Ye Hao narrowly evaded her grasp.
“I doubt you can dodge this time.” Mei Xinxue's speed surged once more. This round, she successfully caught hold of Ye Hao just as he attempted to evade.
The moment Mei Xinxue's grip closed around Ye Hao's shoulder, an instinctual force surged through him.
Despite the surge of power, Ye Hao found himself still ensnared in Mei Xinxue's grasp.
“Ouch.” Ye Hao couldn't help but inhale sharply due to the pain.
“Young man, who are you?” Mei Xinxue regarded Ye Hao with a serious expression.
Ye Hao responded quickly, “I'm a student at No.2 High School.”
“How can a student possess such remarkable physical prowess?” Mei Xinxue looked at Ye Hao with an incredulous expression.
Ye Hao was at a loss for words to explain.
Should he confide in Mei Xinxue about the alteration caused by a drop of divine blood?
Ye Hao had no intention of revealing this to anyone.
“You seem to be harboring a secret,” Mei Xinxue remarked with a smile.
“I don't need that dagger anymore. Please let go of me,” Ye Hao cautiously stated.
“I can hand over the dagger, but in exchange, you need to explain what's happening with your body,” Mei Xinxue observed Ye Hao and proposed.
“I don't need that dagger anymore,” Ye Hao reiterated.
Mei Xinxue released her grip on Ye Hao's shoulder, saying, “Even if you didn't tell me, I would've figured it out. That senior must have enhanced your body.”
“How did you find out?” Ye Hao inquired, genuinely surprised.
Mei Xinxue muttered, “Regular pills wouldn't result in a transformation like this.”
“What did you say?”
“Never mind. Here, take the dagger.” Mei Xinxue hastily departed after offering the words.
Ye Hao stood momentarily stunned, holding the bronze dagger.
He hadn't anticipated Mei Xinxue's actual willingness to give him the dagger.
Regardless of Mei Xinxue's perspective, the dagger now belonged to him.
Ye Hao slipped the dagger into his pocket and hastened home.
Upon his return, he discovered a visitor in the house.
“Hello, Auntie Niu,” Ye Hao greeted.
Niu Li had been friends with Guo Xiu for many years.
Upon seeing Ye Hao, Niu Li's eyes brightened as she exclaimed, “Hao, I need your assistance this time.”
Ye Hao responded cautiously, “What would you like me to help you with?”
“Hao, are you from Key Class 2 of No.2 High School?”
“Yes.”
“Find a chance to ask if any of the students in your class want to enter No.3 High School.”
“What?” Ye Hao was stunned.
Niu Li's voice was hushed as she spoke, “If your students decide to join No.3 High School, we'll sort out their paperwork issues and provide them with cash incentives.”
“Auntie Niu, what's your intention?” Ye Hao was aware that Niu Li was the homeroom teacher for the third-year class at No.3 High School.
Niu Li's honesty was evident as she stated, “The principal instructed us to encourage students from No.2 High School and No.1 High School to switch over to No.3 High School to boost our enrollment rates. Otherwise, No.3 High School could truly face decline in the long term.”
“What kind of reward are we talking about?” Ye Hao's excitement was palpable in his words.
Ye Hao's disappointment with No.2 High School had reached its zenith, fueling his eagerness to sever ties with the institution.
“For students who have scored over 700 points and choose to switch to No.3 High School, we'll grant them 2,000 yuan. Additionally, the reward for every 10 points they score above 700 will increase by 300 yuan. To clarify, if students who have scored 800 points opt for No.3 High School, they'll receive 5,000 RMB.”
