"Louise!" Lana shouted while she watched the area being covered by a dark sphere that resembled a fog.
She tried to run at her and check her condition, but Jake stopped Lana and then pointed upward… it seemed that at the last moment, she jumped away and escaped the explosion, but then Jake noticed that something was off. When Louise landed nearby, they saw her showing a pained expression, and when they approached, they noticed that she had some holes in her arms and shoulders… like she had been hit by bullets that ate away her flash. It was quite the nasty thing to do...
"What the hell are those wounds…" Jake said.
"That dark smoke dropped on me a bit when I ran away… most of it expanded when his body imploded, but some small droplets still hit me…" Louise replied.
"So, it is something liquid?" Jake looked at the sphere that was decreasing in size instead of dissipating.
In the place Justin was supposed to be, they only found a large and perfectly round hole. The smoke had a magical presence, but after being used, it just disappeared, unlike the other types of magic that revert back to mana to the environment…
Louise was able to heal Louise, but it was a very slow process since she described that her flash had disappeared instead of being damaged. Jake looked at the others fighting the third group of mutated humans… if all of them explode like that, then they truly will be in a bad spot.
"We killed more than a few of them already… so it doesn't look like all of them can explode like that," Jake said.
"Only Justin suddenly got stronger in the middle of the battle as well, so the enemy can't make them stronger that easily," Lana added. "Still, we have to be careful."
"Agreed… you guys should stay further away from the backline, just in case," Jake said. "That guy was targeting you in the middle of the fight against Louise, and now they also have more reasons to target her."
"I don't really like this, but it can't be helped…" Lana said while she helped Louise walk. "That technique exhausted your body, so you will have to fight like usual for a while."
"Fine by me," Louise said while smiling. "There is too much emotion fighting the enemies up close for me, after all."
The group returned to the area in front of the cave and noticed that the number of enemies had increased. Even if Jake moved away from the battlefield for a short while, that was too much… Moreover, there was no sign of the guild masters yet… Or of other dungeon masters. "Hey, kids, keep your guard up if you see someone cracking. Spread the word and tell everyone to run away if they see anyone looking weird," Jake said.
"Cracking?" Karina asked while frowning.
"It is hard to explain. You will see what we mean when the time comes," Lana said.
Even after hearing that, Karina and Julian looked doubtful, as for Arilene, she was looking at the hole left by the explosion.
"... You are awfully quiet, Virgilius," Jake said.
"Once again, there isn't the best time to talk about that subject when enemies are coming toward you all," Virgilius said. "Even more now than ever considering what you know that they can do."
"... Inform us if you notice anything weird with their strength," Jake said. "Although I have a feeling that will be easy to confirm that with our eyes alone…"
Jake held his sword tightly since he could see a lot of enemies heading toward his party. He had yet to recover all the mana in his sword, so he couldn't wipe them out instantly. His next target was a long-haired guy also armed with a longsword. As if Jake looked exactly like the man who killed his family, that guy showed an extremely mad expression when he swung his weapon.
Jake swung his sword upward to break his balance, but then the enemy's sword emitted a powerful wave of electricity that paralyzed him. The enemy used that chance to kick him in the guts, but that had been a bad idea since it pushed Jake away, and the electric wave stopped… he charged again, trying to finish him off, but Jake used Flash and then just appeared behind the enemy and then that guy was split in half.
"I need to be more careful. There are kids watching…" Jake thought when the upper body of the enemy fell to the side.
It was a bit late to consider that when they were in the middle of a war agaisnt other humans. Still, at least Jake had to try not to make things get too gory… Regardless, two other enemies approached Jake armed with hammers, and they swung those weapons at the same time while mirroring each other horizontally. Repelling those weapons and attacking at the same time will be difficult under normal means…
Still, in that short window of time before the attack, Jake looked to the sides and then saw the other parties and Karina and Julian struggling agaisnt the enemies they were fighting. Covered in sweat and dirt, despite that, the cold of the area still was eating away the heat on their bodies… They have been fighting one hell of an intense battle for one hour. It was only natural that they would look like that…
Jake didn't want to provide more data about his abilities to the enemy, but he couldn't keep holding back any longer. Besides, that was the final push… after the humans on the enemy side die, only the target remains.
With those thoughts in mind, Jake summoned the dark flames on his weapon and made it move across the blade like a saw and then swung it… cutting the hammers and their wielders at the same time and without feeling any Resistance…
