The fire golems tried to hit Jake with Fire Bullets and Fire Arrows, but Jake used Flash faster than they could aim and always escaped. After losing half of their numbers in a matter of seconds, they used their final card… they began to explode. That was one useful ability for mindless minions to have. They wouldn't fear death, and thus they wouldn't hesitate. With a large number, they probably could wipe out a large army... the cost of summoning and wasting them was a problem, though.

They formed a circle to make sure that Jake wouldn't escape, and while that helped in creating a chain explosion, Jake already knew how to solve that problem since he fought an enemy that could do the same thing. The undead Trent boss gave him the idea of summoning his dark flames as a rotating wall. While the temperature increased, Jake avoided the flames. Those flames were quite something, they didn't react in any other way aside from the way he wanted and even when they lose power, they will keep going.

The skill Fire Resistance received 300 experience points.

The skill Fire Strike received 300 experience points.

The skill Explosive Touch received 300 experience points.

When the explosions ended, Jake returned to his base since the second group of golems had yet to show up. He arrived on time to see the crystal wolves using the walls to protect themselves and attack the humanoid bats with ice spears. Thanks to the slowing effect of the projectiles, they never crossed the walls, but the mana of the wolves was decreasing, so Jake came to help. Unlike the enemy, he couldn't afford to lose too many of his minions. Besides, relying on them as baits would only cause problems later.

"Now I can focus a little bit…" Jake said and focused on Master Thief.

Jake enhanced his crossbow with dark flames because he didn't want to reveal himself any more than he already did and because that was the most effective way to use Master Thief. Since he was in the backline, the enemies didn't see him, so he had a clear view and was absolutely safe to attack them.

While Jake could use that power to make himself stronger, he decided to focus on recovery because he couldn't make potions like before and because he couldn't earn coins on that mission. So, he could only buy so many potions. Regardless, Jake didn't see more enemies approaching once the humanoid bats were killed, and it seemed that they realized that Jake wasn't a run-of-the-mill newbie.

"You guys, reinforce the walls with ice magic," Jake said to his crystal wolves. "You should be able to do that with Ice Breath and make some walls using that skill as well."

Although it wasn't that shocking, they went to follow Jake's orders. They didn't have any idea what he was planning when it came to defending the base, but they still managed to fix the destroyed walls and reinforce everything.

The purple crystal was right where Jake left it, and it was glowing weakly for some reason. Jake was sure that it wouldn't teleport him anywhere, but apparently, he couldn't let it be attacked either. That was probably why the spider guy made it disappear with illusion magic.

Please, select the type of monster you wish to summon. The spawning rate won't change, but their levels, skills, and parameters will be determined by the data of the crystal.

Jake suddenly saw another blue window showing up after that, with the types of monsters he could summon. The list was pretty extensive, but most of the monsters were at level one. Only the gremlins were at the level where Jake saw them. Still, he would instead not summon them if he could choose it.

"Since I just have to defend this place, golems will do… they are at level 150… fire golems at level eighty," Jake thought. "I suppose I will use the ordinary ones."

"Not bad, I guess. They can create two layers of walls of two different elements…" Jake thought.

A single golem appeared, so it seemed that the next would come in one hundred seconds, and that was exactly what happened. It was going to take a while before their numbers reached a decent level, but Jake could stay on guard until that happened.

After a couple of hours, Jake kind of got tired of waiting. The enemies around were too lax, and doing nothing was actually causing him problems since he could use Master Thief and get stronger.

"I suppose those guys are about to clear the mission, and they aren't willing to risk themselves by attacking me…" Jake thought. "We can always escape instead of dying, but the people who reached this area must have a lot of confidence in their skills to keep insisting even on a lost fight."

Putting that aside, Jake had to think of something to stir things up a bit… after thinking for a while, he wondered what would happen if he were to get another purple crystal. Defending two bases would be difficult, but that would make his army grow two times faster, and he would have more enemies to fight. Unlike the other guys, Jake liked to take his chances even if the risks were far too great. Besides, now more than ever, he has to make some bets.
