Jake blocked the attacks of the remaining golem for five seconds, and it was the time necessary for his flames to destroy the core of the second golem. The third one was about to use both arms to attack, but Louise stopped it with a quick succession of Fireballs. While the monster was staggering, Jake destroyed the core with his sword.

"Hey, how come your cheat skills are so malleable?" Lana asked.

"If you didn't have such a hard head, perhaps yours would be the same," Jake replied. "I bet you never tried to use your ability in different ways."

"You tried to use your first ability in different ways?" Lana furrowed her eyebrows.

"No… but that is beyond the point," Jake replied.

Lana would protest more, but the weather was quickly draining her energy, so she decided to shut up. Nevertheless, neither of the battles made the monsters drop anything, so the group began to walk toward the nearest hill to have a good view of the region. Unfortunately, they didn't find anything aside from that never-ending barren lands. It will be pretty annoying to find the dungeon in such a place.

"Here we go again," Lana said.

"You don't have to worry," Jake said. "We can't see any golems in the distance, but until now, those two groups came from the same direction… at least they appeared showing their backs to the same direction."

"I suppose that is a good starting point to find it," Louise said. "Let's hurry up because I think this mission will only get harder the more time we waste."

Jake couldn't agree more since, at night, that kind of terrain could get pretty cold as well. Not to mention, the way the monsters spawned, they won't have much time to rest. The group will be tested physically and mentally for the next sixty hours…

While that sounded fun, Jake knew that he couldn't take any chances, so he used Flames of Wrath whenever possible to end the fights as soon as possible. Still, they weren't making much progress because the golems were too damn tough. Even when they had to face ten reptilians at the same time, they didn't have to waste so much time against them… still, things could have been worse if Jake didn't have Flames of Wrath.

"I guess this mission will a lot tougher than we imagined," Louise said while fixing her cape to protect her from the sunlight. "We need something else to improve things."

"Something like that?" Lana asked.

"Hmm… maybe another party?" Louise asked. "With a shield, Jake can endure the attacks of many enemies, but I guess our party is starting to look too balanced thanks to that. While that isn't a bad thing, it might be a bit troublesome against certain enemies."

"Nah, forget about it," Jake said. "We won't find any trustworthy for quite a while. Newbies will always be target by guilds. Let's just focus on getting stronger, while the balance of our party might be troublesome right now, it also increases our survivability against most foes."

Although Jake didn't want to get involved with anyone troublesome, it seemed that fate had other things in store for him… After crossing another hill, the group saw a group of golems chasing someone. After focusing his eyes, Jake noticed that it was a short woman who red hair and was armed with two green knives. While she had two of them, only one was being raised and ready to be used. The other was in the left arm that she couldn't even move.

"How odd, how come so many golems are chasing a single person?" Jake rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

"Is that what you think when you see someone in trouble?" Lana frowned. "We have to help her!"

"She is right, Jake," Louise said.

"Hold your horses, big time heroes," Jake said. "What happened to your distrust of strangers? Or do you only distrust men?"

"That is…" Louise said and then showed a really complicated expression.

"That was a low blow, even from your standards, Jake," Lana said. "If you aren't going to help her, then I will by myself."

"As long you say that you won't make a stranger work with us, that is fine," Jake said.

Lana clicked her tongue and then dashed toward the damsel in distress. Meanwhile, Louise didn't know what to do and say. Helping a stranger in trouble without thinking of anything would make her a hypocrite just because she was a woman? Jake massaged his eyebrows when he realized what she was thinking… in the end, he decided to help since he didn't want to make an ally feel so conflicted.

Even though Lana enhanced her speed, Jake easily passed by her and approached the five golems targeting the redhead. While the girl was fast, she was wounded, and some of the creatures stopped to attack her with Stone Bullets. Without any other choice, Jake hit their heads with Mana Blades. The creatures stopped and looked at Jake. The redhead found him and also Lana and Louise behind. Thanks to that, she sighed in relief.

Louise didn't think that she would need her mana in the next battles. Hence, she emptied her mana pool by firing continuous Fireballs toward the monsters. Thanks to that, Jake found the opening to attack the beast without worrying about his defense, but he could only sigh while doing so.

"Use your head a little…" Jake muttered.

Jake wouldn't make the same mistake, so he dashed toward the monsters and then used Bash in a fast sequence to destroy the cores of the monsters. Still, he only managed to do that because their heads were melting and damaging the core while he was at it. Otherwise, even Jake would have a hard time fighting the monsters and trying to conserve his mana.

Jake sighed once again since. Apparently, even the girl received some of the coins. Regardless, the monsters didn't drop any items, so the group approached the redhead, who was pale like she had seen a ghost. From up close, Jake couldn't help but frown. The redhead looked pretty young. Perhaps she was sixteen or seventeen. While she was short, she also looked like a doll since she was astonishingly beautiful with her long straight red hair and green eyes.

"------------!, ------------!" The girl said.
