Chapter 483 483: The Abyss Born Assassin I

Azrael felt at home in the darkness, even more so within this dungeon that has been his home for a good three months. He was warned of course, the time dilation effect was extreme, a day outside of the dungeon was a month in it.

The information he got about the place had said they it was a land of opportunities and treasures. Finding it and setting the trap for Cole had taken him the better part of a month. He had ignored everything else that there was to see about the seventh floor, he just needed to put an end to Cole.

Or course after so many failures Azrael', was back to the drawing board. Cole was a 'local' hero, at least as far as their universe was concerned. So him dying would be sure to fuck things up, probably doom the entire human race for good. Azrael was aware of that, but he didn't care. The world, the universe already abandoned him long ago, after all it was his own family that handed him over to others for experimentation.

Azrael wasn't born normal like most kids. He was born with a congenital heart defect, one that was so intense that it was predicted he wouldn't survive the first week. Queue in the Organization. They came, paid his parents some good money and with the help of the government spun some fine lie about advancements in medicine and how their baby was making the ultimate sacrifice.

Well the money being thrown in front of them was huge, enough to propel the both of them into the bottom rungs of the society's elite. And they loved their lives lavishly and had a new family….. and for him, his existence became pretty much hellish after that.

*Clang! Bang!*

Azrael looked at the ruined elevator doors and the tentacles that had been just been hacked and dislodged from the body of the Star-Octo. Azrael wondered what Cole would do once he found out that this particular one was just a baby. These creature are fiercely attracted to heat and life and they would chase with a single track mind until they get their prey.

Either ways it was an impressive feat getting one of these things to run away. In the month that he has been here, mapping the area and setting as much trap as he could without the dungeon's monsters finding out. He has observed the mannerisms of the creatures here, there was an ecosystem here when anything smaller than a cat was considered good.

But he was hidden, there was something about being the systems personal assassin. One of his skills erased Azrael from existence, he had no idea how but this skill had him existing outside of time and space and reality. The perfect shroud, to be present yet unseen. It was the perfect ability for an assassin, yet Cole just won't stay down.

Azrael gave the elevator shaft another look. If Cole kept using the shaft to move he would end up in the level above, close to the main square of the city above, or perhaps he could go even higher. Azrael could track Cole but not always, his ability to follow prey or targets goes haywire when it comes to Cole, almost as if he had some sort of shield around himself or something.

Never the less, he would be able to follow as soon as that shield of Cole's deactivates. For now though he had to look to his abilities, Cole was not as fast as he was, but somehow the man would always dodge or defend against all of his strikes at the last second, almost as if he knew those attacks were coming before they got to him.

Azrael folded his hands and held his chin in contemplation. Maybe Cole really could see the future, maybe not. For one the guy always seem surprised everything Azrael attacked, and he did not react as if he had foreknowledge, if that were the case he wouldn't have walked into a trap as obvious as that washing machine. Azrael' had led that monster into it, and left it there to sleep once it discovered a mountain of clothes made for the most comfortable bed.

So maybe not foreknowledge….but maybe a very high perception. Plus with him not having as much time to master the new system, he might not able to take full advantage of that high perception of his. His movements were instinctual and all just being him grasping at straws In order not to get killed. With time he would have more control over his body and speed to better match the high perception he has.

But what could he possibly do now, to bring Cole down. For one that perception of his is a problem. And Cole's mastery of shadows while weaker than Azrael's was still high enough that Cole could use the shadows to track him, and that was saying something seeing as Azrael was shrouded from all existence, yet Cole could find him.

A head on clash would not be in Azrael's favor. They might seem equally matched but one thing the whole universe agreed with, was that Cole was a prodigy. In fact Azrael' was pressed for time, he was talented himself but Cole was a monster, who thrives and grows in conflict, with each clash, Azrael knew that Cole himself would be trying to figure out strategies that he would use against Azrael.

Cole was not invisible, that has been proven many times as Azrael had taken the time to study his target. He re-watched Cole's streams, studying his moves and abilities. The dude was not a straightforward fighter for one, no matter how much that might seem to others.

A spell sword would be the right word for what Cole was. He had the firepower of a mage and could unleash it at any range, add that with the combat acumen, body and dexterity of a warrior and you have a deadly combination. However he was lacking in speed, or rather he was fast, but in that regard Cole would not be considered the best, just as he was lacking in strength.

As Cole was he could probably punch a skyscraper to dust and outrun a jet. But Azrael would punch an entire high-rise apartment neighborhood to dust and outrun a space ship. But where he was good at that, he sorely lacked the defense and stamina that Cole had, which was why one of them was assassin and the other a spell sword.

Ultimately there was just one thing he could try to do now in order to bring Cole down. And that was to probably find a way to bombard his perception, overload it with so much information that he would not be able to react on time. If Azrael can catch him off guard with that, then…. He'd be able to take the ultimate prize in the universe…..The Head and Soul of Cole Raen Night!
