Chapter 435 435: The Northern Campaign V
Pasco and Razor's scouting mission took longer than Cole expected. In fact it took the whole day and night, and when by dawn of the next morning they had not returned, Cole suddenly felt that something was wrong. And from the look on Cassandra's face it was obvious that he was not the only one getting worried.
"What's going on between you and you son? Not that I'm saying that the fact he's missing is because of that, but Razor was very adamant about getting away from you. So what's wrong?" Cole asked as he met Cassandra pacing in her tent. The woman looked like she'd rather be anywhere but here, but still she didn't have much of a choice but to answer Cole.
"He's not been exactly approving of my relationship with Dragon lately. While it seemed obvious to everyone at first, it was not to him, and I never broached the subject. He came to a realization and I guess it really hurt him, or perhaps he felt as if with another man now in my life, I don't care or love him anymore….. I don't know Cole.
I found out that he felt that the reason I couldn't wait until he was barely out of the hospital bed to jump into another man's arms was because I thought he was a burden. And maybe he's right, I had jumped so fast into Dragon's arms and his bed that to him it must have seemed as if, he has been holding me back. And I won't lie, I have been spending some time with Dragon lately and might have missed a few meetings with him. I feel awful."
Cassandra suddenly sat down, tear in her eyes as she tried to hold back the sobs that were wracking her body. Neither Pasco nor Razor were responding to any of the messages being sent to them. Cole needed to know if perhaps Razor was just acting out with his Mom, but hearing all this, Cole was sure even if he was the one he'd disappear just to prove a point…..he already did that before. Cole hoped the kid was not that stupid, all could see that his rebellion did not turn out as well as he wanted it to.
"How many of these meetings did you miss?" Cole asked, he wanted to know the level of the damage, forget the end of the world here, they were dealing with a teenager that's a very important member of his faction, Razor could be the undoing of everything that Cole was trying to achieve here.
"Quite a few, on the day of your tests, I had gone to the Collegium to apologize. Razor had finished an intergalactic alchemical course in a month that would take scholars outside of our universe years. It's not like the Collegium is a well known institution of learning, it's a dungeon. But there was still a ceremony, but I missed it for a trip to the doctor...I found out I'm pregnant. Having Dragon's baby...I didn't tell Razor about that either, he found out this morning when he saw the test results I'd carelessly left out."
"Well damn! You fucked your son up." Cole said to her with a surprised look on his face. "but none the less I understand you, for so long it's just been you and him. And all that mattered was how to keep him alive from the next day to the next. Then that life was over and you could breath, you both could. And there's a shot of genuine happiness right in front of you. If you hadn't taken it, I'd probably will not have been happy with you.
But don't you think you both rushed things too fast. You've raised your son as an invalid all his life, there has never been a chance for you people to understand and grow your bond beyond that. You should have found a balance, plus he's your son and as far as I know you and Dragon are not married yet, even if you are, Razor has more claim on you than any man alive or dead! He's a fucking part of you.
If you have to grow, and love and experience joy and happiness. You ought to have carried him along! Because while you were in pain and hurt watching your son slowly wither away, he too was forced to watch you be in so much pain. He is a man, men don't like it when their mom's cry, but don't worry, I'm sure-"
"My Lord!" Aiteen barged into the tent a frantic look in her eyes as she pointed outside. "its Pasco and Razor! The Northerners have them! " Cole did not even let her finish as he rushed out of the tent, using [Shadow Dance] to move through multiple shadows to end up on a small hill overlooking the City of Te Merea. And there on one of the walls were the kneeling forms of Razor and Pasco, and standing behind them was a face that Cole was all too familiar with.
"Tiana!"
There were Mechs and all sort of weapons arraigned and pointed in Cole's and the company's direction. The army of the kingdom were quickly trying to rally themselves, no one had expected that the people who were supposed to be quietly trying to put survive the siege by relying on the rations in the city, to actually make an attempt to throw the first punch. The moment Cole showed up, all of the weapons started powering up.
"Stop right there World Breaker or I'll vaporize this kid down to his very soul…..I'm sure you more than anyone else knows what that means." Cole chuckled and raised his voice, using energy and [Shockwave] to make sure it got across.
"Do you think threatening me is the right course of action..... And you're just a kid yourself, why are you calling someone else a kid. It's way past your bedtime Tiana, let them go and you and I can settle our differences, like adult and teenager, man and girl."
"You really have no idea what's happening do you? You think I'm here as a joke. You have been a thorn in my side ever since this damn tower climb started! You couldn't just be a good little bitch and become a revenant could you! Instead you killed me and cost me one of my precious lives! Now….. now I'm going to make you fucking pay."
