Chapter 914: Bashful Appearances

As Roselie watched her Miss leaving the room, her gaze fell at the bottom of the pale blue gown she was now wearing.

‘It’s covered well!’ She sighed while patting her chest at this sight.

The chain she had just wrapped around the young girl’s ankle was completely hidden underneath the thick layers of the gown.

Roselie had done this on purpose as Miss Yvonne refused to leave home without the cheap-looking necklace she had been gifted in the past.

However, on this special occasion, if that necklace had been visible then the Countess would surely not spare her.

Hence the maid had been smart enough to realize that the Young Miss’s ankle was the most appropriate spot for the chain with the glass pendant instead of putting it on the wrist as a bracelet as she always did in the past.

After making sure that this piece of older jewelry wasn’t evident even when the Miss was walking, Roselie sighed to herself before turning towards the older lady next to her.

.....

Their Miss had left the room alone as she knew that her butler would be waiting outside in the corridor for her.

This meant that Roselie was supposed to help the older lady down the stairs instead of following her.

Hence, she did not disregard her duties and smiled while stepping closer to her superior at the job.

It was Mrs. Jacinth who had taught her everything she needed to know in order to serve the Young Miss well.

Therefore, now that the older lady was going through a difficult period due to her advancing age, Roselie knew that she had to be considerate about her health.

Hence she moved closer to the old nanny and held out her hand which was accepted in no time.

“I’m still not so old that you have to help me walk.” Mrs. Jacinth grumbled despite grasping the youngster’s hand tight.

Roselie only nodded as though she was giving in to the nanny’s words but when she felt the unsteady steps of the old lady next to her, she knew that this was needed.

Almost everyone in the mansion could tell that Mrs. Jacinth was no longer in a state to be running around as she did in the past.

Though her senses were still sharp, her body was now weak which made it difficult for her to complete most ordinary tasks that would have been easy in the past.

Hence Roselie too was careful as she helped the older lady head back downstairs where their Miss must have already reached the Parlor.

She was right in thinking so as Yvonne was now at the entrance of the Parlor where she found Butler Limo standing guard outside.

Noticing the Young Miss’s arrival with Jax following her, Butler Limo bowed to greet her when she approached him.

Without delay, he held the door open for her but wondered what was wrong when she did not step inside the room.

“Why didn’t you persuade her to stay down?” Yvonne interrogated with her amethyst eyes narrowed.

Butler Limo’s head lowered once again when he grasped what the Young Miss was talking about.

“Miss also knows that she would not listen when it comes to your matters.” He replied in a soft tone as though even he was helpless about the topic they were discussing.

Observing the honest expression on his face, Yvonne could only sigh as she knew how stubborn her old nanny could get.

They had been talking about Mrs. Jacinth who was brave enough to stand against the Earl if it was something about the child she was serving.

Therefore, hearing Butler Limo’s response, she knew that he would have failed even if he tried to dissuade the old lady from pushing herself against her limits.

When Yvonne had first left her room, she had chided Jax for not noticing that the old lady was coming upstairs.

Though they had discussed other important matters as well, most of their conversation was concerning the elderly nanny.

So when they arrived before the Parlor and met the older butler, Yvonne had once again decided to bring up this matter.

Butler Limo had also been worried about Mrs. Jacinth but there was no one who could stop her if she set her mind on something.

“Just make sure that she does not push herself too much,” Yvonne instructed, alternating her gaze between the two butlers, both young and old, who nodded in immediate acceptance of her latest command.

Satisfied with this response, she finally let go of this matter and stepped into the Parlor where she found her father waiting patiently inside.

Earl Rutherford St. Claire who happened to have stellar hearing abilities had already caught onto most of the latter half of their conversation.

Hence he did not ask her much as she took a seat next to him after she had greeted him.

“My Vonna always looks good.” He praised while assessing the outfit his child had worn today.

His wife had shown this dress to him when she had first received it from the seamstress so he was already aware of what the child was supposed to wear.

However, seeing his daughter in that dress only made it look better than ever before.

‘Who said that clothes make a person look better?’ He harrumphed as his daughter had the ability to enhance the beauty of anything she wore.

As the doting father was lost in a trance while admiring his child’s appearance, the door was once again pushed open.

This time, it wasn’t just Rutherford but even Yvonne was left wide-eyed and in awe at the sight before them.

Dressed in a sleek well-fitted gown made out of blue satin, Raylene sauntered into the room with a bashful smile on her face.

Her pretty copper-toned hair was tied into a low bun adorned with white flowers with a bluish hue at the ends of their petals.

Her bare face with minimal makeup made her appear more youthful and innocent, invoking all kinds of emotions within the hearts of her husband.

While the young girl was appreciating the sight before her, Rutherford was trying hard to suppress the primal urge to drag his stunning wife back to their marital bedroom where he could ravish her at will.

Regardless of how he desired to hold her in his arms right now, he knew that they did not have sufficient time for what he had in mind.

‘And Ray would be annoyed if I ruined her hard work.’ He reminded himself which worked wonders in dousing the flames burning within him.

Though he wished to hide his beautiful wife and keep her safe from any ogling eyes that might find their way toward her body, he was also sensible enough to keep his thoughts to himself.

She had worked hard to ensure that everything was satisfactory for the event they were about to attend soon so all he could do was suppress the various emotions that had bubbled within him from the very moment she had walked into his line of sight.

Standing next to him, Yvonne had already caught the variety of expressions that had flashed across his usually frozen face.

‘Not that I had any choice...’ She grumbled when she recalled that they were all in the same room and finding that greedy look on her father’s face was not something she could have avoided even if she wanted to.

Therefore, shuddering to push those images out of her mind, the little girl turned her gaze towards her mother whose eyes were also looking right back at her.

‘How do I look?’ The wordless inquiry was too obvious for Yvonne to not notice.

“Mama looks like a fairy!” The child chirped to encourage her mother whose eyes still contained traces of nervous anxiety.

Though Yvonne disliked playing the role of a child at most times, she could make an exception when it came to her family.

Hence she did not mind while nodding her head and smiling at her mother, displaying her high evaluation of how she looked today.

This response caused Raylene’s anxiety to vanish in the next instant as her pink diamond-like eyes sparkled with happiness.

Rutherford, who had managed to regain control of his emotions, also walked forward to kiss the hand of his beautiful wife before he leaned in and whispered some sweet words into her ear.

Those words which made Raylene blush caused Yvonne to grimace and shudder once again as they were not something a child was supposed to hear.

‘Father, I can hear you...’ She reminded her father through their mental link that her aura made it easy for her to even hear their whispers.

This statement made in a deadpan voice echoed in Rutherford’s mind, stiffening him right away.

He had just been whispering to his wife how he would much rather prefer to carry her back to their room and forget all about the Royal celebration.

However, never in his dreams had he thought that his child would hear those same words which were now making his ears turn a deep red in color.

The fact that Yvonne’s senses had also heightened due to her ability to wield aura had completely slipped his mind as his thoughts were filled with just his wife and her breath-taking appearance.

Therefore, in his moment of carelessness, he had let his child hear something she should not have, at least at this age.

Unlike him who was now panicking inwardly, Raylene was clueless about the little interaction between the father and child.

Hence she playfully smacked her husband’s arm to make him stop talking nonsense and turned away to hide her reddening face.

Thanks to this, she had failed to notice that even he had a similar expression of embarrassment that was now apparent on his face.

“Ahem... We should get going.” Rutherford announced only a second later as he had regained his composure but his heated ears revealed that this incident hadn’t entirely disappeared from his mind.
