Chapter 881: Marchioness Jorbin’s Homeland

Inside their room, Raylene snuggled against her husband while revealing how her day had been.

A few of the ladies had met today for tea at the Jorbin’s household.

Marchioness Jorbin was not too familiar with many women from the Capital since she was a foreigner and also lived in her husband’s fief ever since she had married him.

The few times that she had visited Amarthea, her experience with the other noble ladies had not been too pleasant.

Though not everyone treated her the same, it was clear that a majority of the women disliked her due to her foreign origins.

Thus she had stayed away from them to avoid finding herself in unpleasant circumstances.

However, this year, she had met some ladies who were kind to her and only these women were invited to her tea party.

.....

Among them, Duchess Tanner, Marchioness Kiron, Countess St. Claire, Countess Blaise, and finally Baroness MacIntyre were on the guestlist for today’s private event.

This doesn’t mean that the rest of the noble ladies were bad in Marchioness Jorbin’s opinion.

It was just that she wasn’t too acquainted with most of them as for a few others, she genuinely disliked the way they treated her.

Therefore, only these women had the opportunity to visit the ancestral house of the Jorbin family which was located in the Capital.

In the past, the Jorbin family resided in their fief, and only recently had they shifted to the Capital.

The Marquess’s job as the King’s minister of foreign affairs had caused him to be away most of the time.

Their son was now studying and staying at the Academy while their three daughters were close to coming of age.

Therefore, the couple had decided to move to the Capital as that was where every important event of nobility took place.

To build up stronger relationships with the noble ladies, Marchioness Jorbin had organized this tea party which turned out to be a grand success.

Raylene, who was present, could not stop admiring the lady whose house they had visited today.

Marchioness Jorbin wasn’t from Rosenhyde but was from the Southern Kingdom.

Not much was known about this place other than the fact that they did not uphold the same strict patriarchal values as their kingdom.

Therefore, the ladies who had appeared today were interested to know more about her homeland and the Marchioness was more than happy to answer all the questions they had for her.

“Did you know that women can run businesses there...? Without the permission of their fathers or husbands!” Raylene chirped excitedly while staring at her husband with wide eyes filled with astonishment.

In Rosenhyde, even if a woman was talented enough to open a business, she would need the support of some man in her family to register it and look after it.

However, this was not how things worked in the Marchioness’s homeland.

Women could own land, business, and anything of value without the need of a man to step in for her.

The Marchioness had even revealed that her family was well-to-do there and she owned a store in the busiest part of the Capital.

Her sister now helped her look after it and sent her the profits every once in a while.

Rutherford had heard about the difference in the treatment of women in the Southern Kingdom in the past.

Therefore, he wasn’t too surprised when he heard what his wife had to say.

However, he had not expected the silent and demure Marchioness Jorbin to own a business that was now being run by her sister.

“Wouldn’t it be exciting if we could open a salon here in the Capital as well?” Raylene muttered to herself when she heard nothing from her husband.

The store owned by the Marchioness was a salon for women where they could meet and spend time with each other.

There was a tea room, a beauty treatment room, and also a boutique where they could splurge on dresses and other accessories as well.

Sadly, there was nothing of that sort for women in Amarthea which made Raylene yearn for such an experience.

Rutherford glanced at his sulking wife and chuckled before rubbing her back to soothe her.

‘Maybe your wish will soon come true.’ He thought while recalling their King’s attitude these past few months.

It was now common knowledge that King Ophire was advocating for giving women a better status in their society.

Though many nobles still opposed such absurd ideals, there were quite a few who had already begun to change their views of the world.

While this might not be sufficient to overthrow the previous traditions of their Kingdom all at once, it surely was a step in the right direction.

Rutherford did not want his daughter’s hard work to be concealed behind the name of VC forever.

He wanted people to see just how hardworking and talented that little girl was for opening and running such a vast business successfully.

Therefore, he was one among the nobles who wholeheartedly supported the King’s initiative to bring about a change in their Kingdom’s values.

If more women came forward to display their talents and their abilities then the King’s plans of giving them more power would also be able to progress with them.

Thus he hoped that everything would move in the direction that the King wished for as that would be to his and his family’s advantage as well.

Rutherford did not know that his silent prayers would soon be answered.

In the near future, the King would do something so out of the ordinary that it would bring about numerous changes in the way things worked in Rosenhyde.

Not to mention that the salon Raylene was yearning for would surely be opened in the future.

Not only would it be run by women but it would also become one of the biggest pillars that supports their noble society when the time comes.

However, for now, ignorant of what the future holds for them, the couple lay in bed, lost in their thoughts.

__

In his room, Howard raised his head when heard the sounds of music seeping into his room once again.

He had sensed his sister walking past his room and once again the music could be heard so it was easy for him to deduce what she was up to.

However, he chose not to follow after her as that would lead to him being questioned again.

Therefore, he stayed inside his room until it was time for their match.

___

When Roman and Yvonne had played the piano to their hearts’ content, they finally left the room and walked back towards their rooms.

It was now close to the time of the sparring match that would take place between the siblings.

Therefore, the two cousins returned to their rooms to change into something more appropriate for the occasion.

Once they were ready, they reunited in the same corridor, before Howard’s room.

When Yvonne glanced at her brother’s door, she found no traces of him inside.

Since it was close to evening tea time, servants had already returned to the mansion and could be seen walking around.

Therefore, when the little girl asked about the whereabouts of her brother, a maid revealed that he had already left for the training ground.

‘Does he think he can avoid me forever?’ Yvonne rolled her eyes when she heard what the maid had to say.

It was not too difficult for her to realize that her elder brother was trying to avoid her ever since they had decided to spar this afternoon.

However, she would soon be meeting him at the training grounds so she sneered at his flighty behavior before walking to where he was, with Roman accompanying her.

Along the way, they met Jax who had been missing all afternoon.

“The Young Master is waiting for you.” He muttered when he got close to her as he had caught sight of Howard swinging his sword at the training grounds when he had gone out to feed Demon.

His Boss had given him a task to complete so he had been busy dealing with it ever since she had left home in the morning.

He had also forgotten about his lunch and would have skipped it had it not been for Butler Limo who sent someone to fetch him for the meal.

However, he had returned to his task soon after finishing his plate which made the old man shake his head.

Only when it was time for evening tea did Jax remember that he had to feed Demon and hurried over.

This duty belonged to the old butler in the past but now it had been handed over to him.

Therefore, he would not dare to starve Demon whose crimson eyes made him feel as though the beast was peering into his soul.

Not to mention that his Boss was far scarier than the etcher and he did not want to get on her bad side.

For these reasons, he had set aside his task and chose to pay attention to his other duties.

When he had fed Demon, he was on his way back to the mansion and this was how he had come across Howard who stood on the training field with a sword in his hand.

Usually, Jax would be dragged along but they had made no such plans today so it could only mean that the little girl was going to accompany the young boy.

Since he was unaware of what had happened earlier today, he pitied his lazy boss whose evening would be lost in training with her fanatic elder brother.
