Chapter 213 - Mrs. Jacinth, The Spy

The next morning, Yvonne was up before the sun could peek through the horizon.

Her biological clock had adjusted to the timing of her training which meant that Mrs. Jacinth did not have to come over ahead of time each day to wake her up.

The days that she would grumble and whine to be left alone were long gone as she would now be up before the maid could enter the room.

Today as well, Mrs. Jacinth had entered the room and found the young miss sitting at the edge of the bed in the dark room.

Yvonne turned towards her nanny and smiled as she greeted her following which they began preparing for the day.

The little girl was in high spirits today as she hummed a tune from one of the pieces she had practiced yesterday for a long time.

How could she not be excited when she was going to be training sword fighting with her trainer today?

Captain Desmo had taught her how to wield the wooden sword and also about the right way to attack an offender.

However, things were going to be different today.

'He asked me to be prepared to get hurt today!' She recalled his fair warning and a wave of excitement surged through her body.

This was the first time he had said something of this sort and the thought of getting hurt was making her restless and excited at the same time.

Her Grandpa Leo's training had taught her to both hate and embrace the pain she received through it.

This could have caused her to react differently to pain as she was eager and anxious to experience it once again in this life.

The last time that she had felt real pain was on the first day that Captain Reel had come over in order to test her and approve her as his student.

The leather shoes were painfully constricting her feet and her lungs were burning due to the laps she had taken around the grounds.

However, this time she was warned beforehand that she might hurt herself during training hours and the lesson was about sword fighting.

The child had connected the two and was now eager to get to her class as this could only mean one thing.

'He is going to spar with me!' She declared and a gleaming smile appeared on her face.

She would rather have a sparring partner to practice with rather than swinging her sword at an inanimate object, the poor wooden stump which had been the recipient of her repeated strikes for weeks now.

While she was anticipating what might happen today, Mrs. Jacinth had helped her get dressed and was now combing her hair.

"Any news about the Lower Hall?" Yvonne inquired when she felt a tug on her hair which brought her out of her thoughts about the training.

The old nanny shook her head in answer and bowed apologetically for disappointing her young miss.

Ever since the incident with Paula being sent to the Lower Hall, her curiosity had been piqued and she was not going to rest until she discovered this mysterious dungeon that was hidden somewhere in this mansion.

After being ordered by Yvonne, Mrs. Jacinth had taken over the role of her spy in the mansion and would often give her tiny tidbits and gossip from all over the house.

'Any information is useful to figure this puzzle out.' She coaxed her heart as the only information she had been receiving was meaningless gossip about the servants.

"Young Miss, there is something that I have heard and even…" Mrs. Jacinth whispered but soon stopped as though she shouldn't speak further.

It was almost time for her to leave for training but there was no way that she could leave with such a cliffhanger.

'If there is something I hate then that is being kept in the dark!' She scowled and narrowed her eyes at the maid through the mirror before which she was seated.

Being kept in suspense was not fun for anyone, especially an impatient person like Yvonne St. Claire.

Therefore she fixed her eyes on the woman who was standing behind her, combing her hair.

Mrs. Jacinth stopped doing what she was as she glanced at the child's reflection in the mirror.

"It appears that the Butler and Madam's maid have some dispute among themselves." She revealed about the information she had received from various sources.

Yvonne's interest was piqued when she heard that maid being mentioned.

Paula's name being mentioned increased her curiosity and she nodded, permitting her nanny to speak further.

Mrs. Jacinth was present in one such incident where she had witnessed the bad blood between the Butler and Madam's maid.

On the day that Yvonne and Raylene had visited the Commercial District and returned, it was Mrs. Jacinth who had managed the servants and ordered them to serve refreshments for the masters.

As she waited outside the Parlor, guarding the door she noticed the Butler returning after a while.

'Where is Paula?' She wondered but did not interfere as what that maid did was not her lookout.

Butler Limo was concealing the anger in his heart but his furrowed brows had given him away.

Though the man smiled at her, she knew that there was something on his mind.

Hence she decided to remain silent and not disturb him any further.

A few minutes later, the man had returned to his normal and cheerful appearance but this soon changed when a newcomer arrived.

"She had dared to bathe and return before assisting her Master!" Mrs. Jacinth disclosed what she had seen.

The maid had returned after a while and had come over with a sweet fragrance surrounding her and her hair still damp, proving that she had gone to wash herself first.

Butler Limo's anger was justified as he glared at the woman who placed her needs before those of their masters who were still inside the Parlor.

"She's a brave one! What did the Butler say?" Yvonne inquired further as she was enjoying the narration from her nanny.

"The Butler was furious and he had the right to be so." Mrs. Jacinth shook her head as she recalled what had happened next.

The maid was not bothered that she had offended the Butler, instead, she rolled her eyes at him in blatant disregard of his rank.

'Messing with your superiors will get you nowhere.' Yvonne scoffed at the woman who had taken the wrong step.

The nanny then went on to speak of how the Butler had punished the undisciplined maid.

"At that time, Madam had exited the Parlor and saw the Butler and maid in confrontation." She recollected what had happened next.

Raylene had decided to wash herself and rest which was the reason she had left her husband and child inside the Parlor and ventured outside.

However, she discovered that her maid was at loggerheads with the Butler.

Paula's confidence skyrocketed as she blinked pitifully at her Madam, waiting for her to stand up for her.

The confidence sank when she saw her Madam giving her a cold stare before turning to the man in charge of the servants in this mansion.

"Butler, you can punish her if she has done something wrong but keep in mind that she is still my personal maid." She announced and left the place without giving Paula a second glance.
