Chapter 289 - Without mental toughness, who could bear those experiences? (3)

In the nights that followed, Ruan Xia kept waking up. She had to see Little Wang sleeping next to her to be relieved. She had once seen a movie about a father who found his kidnapped son after experiencing a lot of hardship. After finding his son, he would carry his sleeping son on his back even if he was only going downstairs to throw away the trash. She could now relate to the father in that movie.

After experiencing the pain of losing Little Wang once and finding him, she couldn’t bear the pain of losing him again.

Slowly, the days became peaceful. Ruan Xia preferred and treasured these ordinary days. Qin Yu didn’t appear again to cause trouble for them. She thought that Song Tingshen had probably done something behind the scenes. She had chatted with the receptionist from her old job, who told her that the branch office was closing. The employees were given the option to receive severance pay or transfer to the head office. Although the receptionist didn’t say it outright, Ruan Xia could tell from her choice in taking the severance pay over transferring that Qin Yu’s company had fallen to a bad condition. The receptionist also voiced that it was a pity that Ruan Xia didn’t persist for another money before resigning, otherwise Ruan Xia would be getting severance pay too.

Although Ruan Xia didn’t know what Song Tingshen had done, she didn’t plan on asking him. It was enough that Qin Yu didn’t appear in their lives again. Song Tingshen must have his reasons for not telling her what he did, so there was no need for her to get to the end of the matter.

The days were getting colder as winter approached.

Ruan Xia placed all of her energy on Little Wang and Song Tingshen. The longer she was in this world, the more feelings she had for them. There were times when she was so absorbed in the moment that she would think she had already become Song Tingshen’s wife and Little Wang’s mother, which ran counter to her original thoughts.

She thought their ordinary days would continue until the New Year, but there was an unexpected change in Song Tingshen recently.

He used to get off work in time to eat dinner with her and Little Wang. Even if he had more work to do, he would bring it home with him. Occasionally, he would work overtime at the office and have her bring him dinner. But now, the times he was missing eating dinner with them were increasing. When she offered to bring him dinner, he would decline. His reason for declining was very vague too. He was coming home later and later. There were times when she and Little Wang were already asleep by the time he got home. He would leave home very early too. Most of the time, he didn’t even have time to eat breakfast with them and would just leave with a sandwich.

It was even rarer to see him on weekends. He said he was busy with end of the year stuff, but no matter how busy he was, how could he not even have time to eat a meal together?

They hadn’t had a good chat or gone on a date in a long time. Even Little Wang was complaining about how his dad was spending less and less time at home. It had been a long time since he chatted about his inner thoughts and the little secrets they had as guys with his dad.

If it wasn’t for the fact that she believed in Song Tingshen’s character and knew that he wouldn’t do anything to hurt his family, she would start suspecting he was having an affair.
