Chapter 201 – Her sister-in-law had already done something like that, but they had to protect her self-esteem (2)

After Mrs. Li calmed don, she asked, “What about Song Tingshen?”

Once she asked this question, she felt she was being ridiculous. Song Tingshen had a beautiful wife and a cute son. How could he get together with Li Jing and destroy his family? Even if Song Tingshen was lonely and looking for a lover, he wouldn’t choose Li Jing.

“What do you plan on doing?” Mrs. Li looked at her husband. “Will you stop pushing Little Jing to resign because of her suicide attempt? If that’s what you’re thinking, then I have to pour cold water over that idea. Since she can think of a suicide attempt to force you to do something, then she might do something even more extreme in the future. By then, things will have gotten totally out of hand.”

Li Yuanhang tiredly squeezed the bridge of his nose. “I know that. I’ll talk to Little Jing and call Li Song to resign for her.”

“How could she have ideas about Song Tingshen?” Mrs. Li was still somewhat incredulous. “Song Tingshen has a wife and a child. She knows that. What does she want to do? It can’t be that she wants to be with Song Tingshen, right?”

Li Jing was being truly unreasonable. If it was someone else, Mrs. Li could at least curse the other party for being immoral and shameless, but the person rushing to be the other woman was her sister-in-law, so it wouldn’t be good for her to say anything.

“Don’t say anymore.” Li Yuanhang tugged on her hand. “Just pretend you don’t know. Don’t let Little Jing notice that you know.”

Mrs. Li inwardly laughed. Her sister-in-law had already done something like that, but they had to protect her self-esteem. This was really...

By the next day, Li Jing had already woken up. She blankly sat in the hospital bed. The old lady in the neighboring bed tried to talk to her, but she tuned her out.

She didn’t know how long she blankly sat in the bed until her phone rang.

Li Jing was somewhat scared of answering her phone.

Her mind was a mess. She didn’t want to resign and leave Song Corporation. She just wanted to look at Song Tingshen from a distance, but her older brother wouldn’t let her. She didn’t know what to do. That night, she had been so upset, so she ended up talking about that to the friend that she had known back in the college club, who she had met by chance. She had of course omitted a lot of details.

That person had told her she would always be a child in front of her older brother and little kids had plenty of methods they could use such as throwing a tantrum*. Her older brother would certainly compromise with her.

She had already tried crying and fussing. Neither of those attempts had worked. For some inexplicable reason, she thought of a sucide attempt.

* (T/N: The person used an idiom that figuratively means throwing a tantrum, and the literal meaning of that idiom is first cry, second fuss, third hang yourself. It’s not clear if the author is insinuating the other person planted that idea in Li Jing’s head.)

At that time, she had swallowed a bottle of sleeping medicine before her courage left her. She had only wanted to scare her older brother, but in the moment before she passed out, she was truly terrified. She wasn’t sure if she had taken the right amount. She wasn’t sure if she would live.

In the moment when she woke up, she smelled the unique scent of disinfectant that belonged to a hospital. She felt weak all over. Even now, that memory was very clear. The aftermath of having your stomach pumped was a very unpleasant thing.

Li Jing was scared of getting a call from that person. Although that person didn’t intend to guide her to her commit suicide... She had an indescribable psychological fear of that person.

On the other end of the call, the woman saw that Li Jing didn’t answer the phone and said to the man sitting across from her, “She’s alive. She might be scared after waking up, so she’s not answering my call. I might not be able to get close to her in the future.

The man looked down at his watch. In an abnormally serene manner, he said, “Alright.”

What a pity though.

Translator Ramblings: I feel like the story changed genres from slice of life to thriller in this chapter part. Although, I don’t think it’s clear cut that the woman deliberately guided Li Jing into the suicide attempt. It depends on what the man’s goal is. If it’s to cause trouble between Song Tingshen and Ruan Xia, eliminating Li Jing would be more detrimental than helpful.
