Chapter 36: Pity

Splash!

Entering the water channel again, Kate looked around her and then tucked her body deeper as if doing so will make sure that the smell will not reach her.

Kyle looked at the little cat, feeling a bit amused.

“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.”

“Meow.”

Jake was looking around before they picked a direction. Either way, they have the map, but they didn’t know where the rats were located. After some adventure, they will eventually found those rats.

One way or another.

.....

Splash!

“Hmm, there are not much water in this area. Is this higher than the others?” Jake was surprised. He thought that the entire water channel would have similar height.

“This is the place to go up and seems to be pretty big.” Kyle glanced at the door above them and then looked in the direction of the entrance towards the other area. There were several bodies there.

Not rats.

But humans.

Kate trembled. “Meow?”

“Dead.” Dylan went to check their pulses and shook his head.

Jake sighed. “I didn’t think that I’ll ever see pile of human bodies ever again. I thought only those who are fighting at the frontline will ever get the chance to see this kind of scene by now.”

“This is no longer the same world. When the world started to change, it’s inevitable that we humans, have to adapt.”

“True.” Jake took these people’s equipment and also their identity card. At the very least, they could return these card to the people who were waiting above so that they could retrieve it.

“Me.” Dylan took the card and began to climb the stairs.

Jake and Kyle waited below.

“Are you scared?” freewebno vel.co m

“No.”

“Why?”

“We’re not scared of the future, but scared of the unknown in the future.” Kyle was calm.

Jake thought for a moment and laughed in agreement.

Kate was looking at the pile of bodies and felt a bit sick. She curled up her body within Kyle’s jacket and refused to come out no matter what.

While these people might have seen this kind of scene before at military or something, it was new for Kate. She did see the news, but seeing it with her own eyes produced a completely different sensation for her.

She didn’t know what to think.

She’s sad.

She’s aggrieved.

But she couldn’t do anything.

The world is changing and they were not qualified to be the one to stand at the front and had a say in this change. All they could do was to adapt to the change and do whatever possible in order to survive.

It was vexing.

But there was nothing that they could do.

Splash!

Dylan jumped down and nodded to the others. “Done.”

“Ok, let’s continue.”

“Yes.”

They didn’t look at the group of bodies anymore. From the moment they decided to pick up their weapon to come here, it was already estimated that they had to be ready to lose their lives.
