Chapter 117: Chapter 18 Phone Call

Chapter 18 Phone Call

“Zach, phone call.” Louise knocked on the kitchen door and said to Zach.

These days, the phone calls in Zach’s office would usually stop after a few rings, and then the phone on Louise’s desk would ring. If the other party’s request couldn’t be resolved by Louise, it would be transferred to Zach.

Because the answering machine of the original number would state that this was a private number, please call the new number if anyone had funeral affairs.

But this time, the caller seemed to be extremely persistent.

Zach returned to the office and answered the phone.

“What are you doing, why take so long to answer the phone!” It was James’ voice.

“Preparing lunch.” Zach was also almost adapted to this human’s impatience, “Detective Rance, everyone in the Grande House needs to eat.” And the vampire knew what to say to get on James’ nerves

The sound of James taking a deep breath appeared from the receiver.

“I just called to tell you that Neil and Tiffany are awake!” The tone was fierce, “You better be prepared!”

“I heard it as well. This is a good thing, We need to congratulate Quest.” Today’s newspapers had already reported this news. The best way to wait for the funeral to end was to read the newspaper to pass the time. But Zach’s “congratulations” was obviously not sincere, but he was a little confused. This seemed to have nothing to do with him. “Prepared? Prepare for what.”

James on the receiver seemed to be organizing his word. He had obviously tried to speak a few times but failed every time.

Zach frowned and decided to ask, “Have you gone to Quest?”

“It was Quest who came to me!” There was a lot of resentment in James’ tone, “He thought I knew something!”

“What do you know?” Zach was even more puzzled, “How did the two disappear? Why does he need to ask you, it’s not faster to ask the victim directly?”

“That’s the problem!” James became agitated, “They don’t know anything! From the moment they woke up, their minds have been in a state of delirium, like madmen! They kept yelling ‘Don’t hurt me’ or something like that! The police couldn’t get anything useful from them at all!”

Zach chuckled, “So, you must think that’s not some ravings, right?”

“Yes! Something must have attacked them!”

Zach frowned. “Be specific.”

“There is nothing to be specific about!” James said angrily, “I said, they are both in a state of delirium, Something beyond what they can describe attacked them, this is the only thing that can be confirmed!”

Zach thought for a while, “James, do you want to leave this to us Grande again?”

“Of course! What can I do?! It was originally started by you, I just told who he should talk to again!” James became obviously irritable, “Quest kept pressing the police, but what can we do? ! The police cannot question two mentally disordered people!”

“You are shifting the responsibility.” Zach sighed, “I should tell you, we still haven’t gotten any news about Daniel, so even if Quest entrusts me to find the ‘culprit’ I still can’t-”

Zach paused suddenly, “Wait… James, what exactly happened?”

James Rance said to the victim’s family that ‘the police can’t solve it, go find someone else’, which did not fit the vampire’s perception of James’ character. At best, James would ask Grande to assist him in the investigation, and he would never give all his work to Zach!

Zach probed, “You are trying to avoid Quest. You don’t want to see him.”

Hearing the rapid breathing in the receiver, Zach’s probing question had an answer, “You were investigating Quest, and you have found something, right?”

After a moment of silence, James over the receiver responded in a low voice, “Yes, but it has nothing to do with you!”

Zach pondered for a while, then smiled, “You must have found something important, which is enough to fit our previous guesses and from a motive for the disappearance…”

“Stop! I said! I won’t tell you! At least not now!” James on the receiver raised his voice and interrupted Zach, “Anyway, you need to be prepared! And, you can’t cross the line! I do my job, you do yours, find the real culprit!”

Zach smiled and understood what James meant, “Okay, Detective Rance.”

Hung up the phone, the vampire was in a good mood and took out a wine glass. .

“What are you smiling about?” Benjamin, who entered the office, looked at Zach, sat down at the desk, fiddled with the penholder on the desk. The werewolf came here to wait for lunch after finding nothing to do. As a werewolf who could only knead doughs, Alice didn’t expect Benjamin to provide any help in the kitchen, but Matthew seemed to know everything and was helping in the kitchen.

“James’ phone call.” Zach answered.

“Oh.” Benjamin smiled, “What did he say?”

“He said, ‘You can’t cross the line! I do my job, you do yours.’ ” Zach squinted.

Benjamin scratched his chin. “It still sounds prejudiced, but under your guidance, he seems to have a real sense of division of labor and cooperation at ‘his own will’.”

Zach raised his eyebrows and sipped the “wine” in the glass.

The phone rang again, and it was not transferred in by Louise. Zach raised his eyebrows at Benjamin and answered the phone, “Grande Funeral Home, how can I help?”

“It’s me, Quest.” A male voice of about 30 years old came from the receiver, “I have a new request for you.”

“Mr. Quest!”

Benjamin smiled and shook his head looking at Zach’s fictitious expression of surprise.

“What does Mr. Quest need?”

The voice over the receiver was cold and deep, “I want that person, no matter who did this to my brother, I want that person! I don’t care about the ‘truth’ or the ‘process’, I just want that person, no matter what he is, I want him! This is not against your rules, is it!”

Zach didn’t speak, creating an illusion of thinking, but he was actually just exchanging eyes with Benjamin while holding the phone. After a while, Zach made a thoughtful expression. Only when he performed his act fully, the voice passing through the phone would be convincing.

“I am sorry. We, Grande, can’t take that request.”

“What do you mean?” The other party seemed to have lost his calm! The voice was so loud that Benjamin could hear it clearly without using Alpha skin.

Zach moved the receiver away from his ear, rubbed his ears, raised an eyebrow at Benjamin, and signaled, “There is too much attention from the police in this case.” Zach said in a regretful tone, “Since Mr. Quest was introduced by Mr. Hermann, then you must understand that we don’t want to be involved with the police.”

Don’t forget that Zach basically told Hermann, ‘I’ll solve the man who killed Connor’. And then what happened? Except for a hunter awaiting execution in the fall, the rest of those who had emerged and those who had not all died! Of course, Hermann didn’t need to know that there was one person, Revenge, who had become a Dead Apostle.

The other party was silent. Anyone could do such a simple reasoning. The actions of the Grande were not allowed by law.

“Especially that James Rance.” Zach blinked at Benjamin. “Mr. Quest should have also heard of what happened during Mr. Hermann’s request. Having such a detective is a good thing for Barton, but it seems too dangerous for us.”

The other party was still silent, and Zach had no choice but to continue, “I suggest that Mr. Quest hand this matter to the Rance detective. After all, he was also one of the people who found her younger brother.”

“He won’t be involved in this anymore!” This time, the other party answered quickly.

“Oh?” Zach continued to pretend to be puzzled, “Why? The Detective Rance I know is not a person who can give up easily.”

“My brother… Neil…” The other party’s voice was full of hatred, and the vampire could clearly hear the rapid, unstable breath caused by agitated emotions, which was transmitted to the vampire’s ears through the electronic receiver, “He, He’s lost his mind!”

The suppressed voice came from the receiver, Zach frowned. Now he was a little unsure. The speculation that Quest was the person who caused his brother’s disappearance was made when he was not in contact with Quest. Now, this emotion did not seem like a type of emotion that could be made by a person who ‘strongly hoped’ his younger brother to disappear.

“There is a…, uh, some kind rules! The police said.” The person over the receiver seemed to be extremely angry, “They said that people who are mentally unstable, mhm, what this kind of people say cannot be used as testimony and cannot be used! The police have all let, including that, Rance!”

Occupied by the two emotions of sadness and anger, Quest spoke intermittently, but the meaning was fully expressed.

Zach and Benjamin exchanged glances, “Did Neil say something? Where is Tiffany?”

“They said… I don’t know! I don’t want to know! This is your work?”

Zach thought for a while, this time it was really thinking, but the content of thinking was not whether to accept the request. It didn’t make any difference whether to accept or not, because the suspect in Zach’s mind was missing, he could directly reply to the request with ‘it has been resolved’.

Being dedicated to Quinn’s request was because Alice had a good impression of Mrs. Quinn; being dedicated to Mrs. Barton’s request was because Mrs. Quinn has revealed some of Grande’s secrets, and being dedicated to Hermann’s request was because Zach wanted to take revenge.

But Quest? Uh, there seemed to be nothing. But now Zach’s judgment seemed to be shaken a little, and this was what he was thinking.

“Mr. Quest, have the police abandoned this case now?”

“Yes!”

“Well, then we accept it. But we cannot guarantee results.”

“Okay.”

“Where are Neil and Tiffany now?”

“Hospital.”

“Bring them out. Mr. Quest, I hope you understand that we do not want to be noticed by the public.”

“Okay! In the afternoon-”

Zach hung up without waiting for the other party to finish talking. Quest was a controlling person, but Zach didn’t want to give the other party a feeling that he was in control of this. Although the two parties had come to an agreement.

In the afternoon, avoiding the violent noon sunlight, Benjamin’s truck drove away from the Grande Funeral Home and drove on Highway 27 to Quest Manor in the Western District.
