Chapter 11: Pain

Jing Yan fled into the depths of the forest, fear rising from the bottom of his heart.

If he were to be killed here, would his soul die with him and never return to his body?

The light in Jing Yan's eyes dimmed bit by bit. His head felt heavy, and his eyelids grew heavier and heavier. No matter how hard Jing Yan struggled to stay awake, in this endless night, his sleepiness still prevailed.

I musn't sleep...

However, his consciousness was gradually losing control. He needed to go to the hospital, but this body could not go that far. No one would be willing to save a dog that was covered in wounds and was obviously dying.

"Onion?"

Jing Yan suddenly opened his eyes and pricked up his ears, wondering if he was hallucinating.

"Onion, are you here?"

The clear and gentle voice was right in front of him. Jing Yan had never felt so happy when someone came to find him.

"Woof!"

He Miao immediately heaved a sigh of relief when she heard that. She quickly pushed aside the lush grass and found the dog covered in blood under the faint moonlight.

She picked him up with heartache and tears flowed out of her eyes. "Onion, how did you get hurt so badly? I won't forgive the person who hurt you. I'll take you to the vet first."

A strange feeling flashed through Jing Yan's heart. He raised his dog paw in a daze, wanting to touch her tear-stained face, but because his dog legs were too short, he could only stupidly raise his paw in the air and could not touch it.

He Miao held onto his paw worriedly. "Don't be afraid, Onion. You'll be fine."

She called the driver over, but the vet was already closed. She forced herself to calm down on the way, found the hospital's phone number on the internet, and begged the vet to save Onion.

Jing Yan laid on her leg in a daze. The burning pain on his back did not subside at all, but the place that was gently touched by the woman seemed to be medicine, so comfortable that he temporarily forgot the pain.

No wonder animals liked to be stroked by humans so much. It was so comfortable to be stroked by a trusted person.

In the past, He Miao had stroked him as well, but he only felt annoyed. He had never experienced her gentleness and love for Onion so clearly.

They soon arrived at the hospital. The vet had rushed over from home out of pity. He did not want a cute and young creature to lose its life so easily.

The vet looked at the dog that was covered in injuries and frowned. After seeing that it was injured by someone, his expression changed and he cursed those cruel people for being so cruel to such a helpless thing. freew(e)bnove(l)

He Miao's heart ached so much that her hands were trembling when she handed Onion to the vet.

Tonight, Onion was too quiet. She was afraid that Onion would leave her.

Onion seemed to have noticed her sadness. It placed his paw on her hand and barked weakly before turning its head away.

He Miao smiled through her tears. Was Onion trying to comfort her? He was really a lovely and heartwarming little fellow.

The vet carefully examined every wound on Onion's body. During this time, Onion was very obedient and allowed the vet to do anything to it. The vet was very surprised. "Your dog is so obedient. Who would do such a cruel thing to it?"

A cold glint flashed in He Miao's eyes. Perhaps she had been too peaceful after arriving in the book, and had allowed these servants to ride roughshod on her. One had to look at the owner before hitting a dog. Even the servants dared to look down on her. It seemed like it was time to teach them a lesson.

He Miao took a deep breath to calm her anger. Frowning, she said, "Let's take a look at Onion's injury first. Doctor, how is Onion?"

"It's very serious," the vet sighed. "There's a large burn on his back and repeated injuries on his abdomen. He might have a bone fracture and a wound on his head."

He Miao felt a chill run down her spine when she heard this, and she could not help but feel a wave of fear.

If she had not noticed something strange and not went downstairs to look for Onion, the consequences would have been unimaginable. If Onion had not been smart enough to hide in the bushes, who knew what Aunt Liu would have done!

"Please save Onion. I can't live without him." He Miao clenched her fists, her nails digging into her flesh. She lowered her head and held back her tears as she begged.

"He can be saved." The vet nodded and said, "It will cost about 10000 bucks for the surgery."
