Chapter 1316: Selecting the Candidate(3)

While Laney was going through the repeated scenes of failing, coughing up blood, eating the blood replenishing pills, and then restarting, Gret reached his turn of summoning the beast.

Gret had come directly to the second device. He chose to buy the beast first to enhance his power immediately, so there was no point in purchasing a low-level beast and waiting for it to grow.

As for why Gret was in a hurry to enhance his power, it had to do with the upcoming meeting seven months later. His family had a tradition of meeting every one hundred years, and no child could skip that meeting unless they were stranded in a ruin.

During that meeting, the children would also show their growth over the past century to their parents. Gret couldn't impress his father with the external help of a beast, but the same couldn't be said for his mother.

Even though he was the least favorite son of his father, the situation for his mother was the opposite. His father's favorite wife was his mother.

If Gret could impress his mother, he would be able to earn some more pocket money from her since she was the one responsible for the family's finances.

Gret took a deep breath and pressed the button. The next moment, the square light began to rotate and continued to rotate for five seconds.

When five seconds passed, a beast familiar to Gret appeared on the screen. Gret wasn't much enthusiastic about the beast and didn't even read the details on the card.

Immediately after the card flew to his hand, he placed it into the return compartment and pressed the button again.

The next moment, the square light began to rotate while '1' appeared on top of the screen.

Time flew by, and a few minutes had passed since Gret began his summoning.

It wasn't that he had attempted summoning in two digits. The next round of summoning would only be his sixth attempt. It took that long because he deliberately waited for some time before attempting the next round to gather some luck.

When the waiting time was over, Gret pressed the button. The next moment, '5' appeared on top of the screen, and the square light began to rotate at a quick speed.

Five seconds passed in a flash, and a beast familiar yet unfamiliar to him appeared on the screen. Not long after, a card formed out of nowhere and flew into his hand. He immediately focused on the content on it.

The upper half of the card contained an illustration of the beast. Its body exuded an air of predatory elegance. Its large and sleek form was covered in velvety gray fur, interspersed with darker markings that resembled the patterns of a lynx's coat. Its eight legs were each adorned with sharp and intricate claws. Its body was segmented, with a slight hump on its thorax that gave it an imposing presence. Its amber-shade eyes had cruel emotions hidden beneath their intelligence.

Gret was aware of the Lynx Spider, as it was a known race in the Arachnid and Beast groups, but what was unfamiliar to him was the pattern on the back of the beast.

It seemed to be some archaic pattern he had never seen, so he didn't understand what it meant. But his intuition told him that it would be good for him.

Gret nodded after reading the content on the card. Legendary quality was the first for him, and he also liked what he saw on the card, so he decided to buy the beast. The only issue was the price. It was ninety percent of what he had in total.

Trusting in his intuition, Gret gritted his teeth and decided to pick the beast. The money would come with it anyway if he succeeded in impressing his mother.

Gret then left the queue and walked toward the bigger queue in front of the square device, to complete the next steps.
