Chapter 235 - It's just a dream

When Lu Xingyan arrived in front of her brother’s room, she knocked at the door only to receive no answer from the inside.

Since the door wasn’t locked, she held the handle and turned it, carefully pushing it before she took a peek. "Gege?"

The room was dark and empty. There was no sign of Lu Mello inside.

Eh? Where is her brother?

"What are you doing here?"

"Eek!" Lu Xingyan was startled by her brother’s voice behind her. She turned and looked at him with a pout on her lips, "Don’t surprise me like that!"

Lu Mello ended up chuckling, "You sounded like a rat."

She gave him a blank stare, "You’re being rude."

"Sorry, sorry." He smiled, he extended his hand and gave her a pat on her head. "So, what are you doing here?"

"I don’t want to sleep with Xiao Chun tonight... Can I sleep here with you?"

He blinked a few times, "Did you two fight?"

"Not really." Lu Xingyan knew that Fan Jingli will surely call her sister again and when he does, they will speak nonstop with each other, for hours! "Just let me sleep here, tonight, okay?"

"Fine, fine." He entered his room and invited her inside.

Lu Xingyan went and lay down on the bed. She just wanted to sleep early that was why she ignored her brother. She faced her back to him and closed her eyes.

On the other hand, Lu Mello decided not to disturb his sister in her sleep. He went to the cabinet to get a change of clothes before he headed straight to the bathroom.

...

In the middle of the night, Lu Xingyan woke up from a nightmare. Her breathing was uneven and cold sweat was dripping down her forehead. She sat up and turned the light of the bedlamp on.

It’s that dream again. She has been having the same nightmare all over again ever since her great-grandfather died. It has been a year since then.

At first, she ignored her nightmares but later on, she noticed that the same nightmare was visiting her once every other week and every time she woke up from it, she always found her body trembling in fear.

The dream felt so real, so real that she couldn’t stop her body from shaking. She couldn’t get used to that nightmare.

Something weird was surely happening to her. To have that same dream all over again, it was not normal!

Lu Xingyan could still remember the dream clearly as if it was already a part of her memories. freewebnov(e)l.com

In the dream, Lu Xingyan found herself in an abandoned village that was surrounded by trees. The small houses were all worn out and there was no sign of living things in that area.

The way she moved in the dream made her look like she was searching for something but at the same time, she was trying her best not to be found by the person that was after her.

She found a machine when she entered the small shabby market.

"Get out of here!" A man’s voice was heard.

When she turned to the direction where the voice came from, she saw a wounded man, running. Behind him followed another man with a skull mask. He was holding a whip and was trying to catch the man who was running away from him.

Fear instantly filled Lu Xingyan’s body when she saw them. She wanted to help the wounded man but at the same time, she was afraid of the killer that was following behind him.

A loud siren was suddenly heard, giving her hope.

"I’ll cover you!" She ran close to the wounded man and just before she could reach her, the killer caught the man with his whip, making him fall on the ground. He was pulled back and the moment the killer caught him, he stabbed him on his back.

"L-Leave me, Xiao Xing..." The man coughed out blood, his face wet with tears. "L-Leave--"

The masked man continued on stabbing him on his back until life left his body. It was such a bloody scene.

Tears spilled out of her eyes as she forced herself to turn away to escape.

Another person sacrificed himself again.

She cried so hard as she was trying her best to run away as fast as she could, her adrenaline rushed her up as she headed to the exit gate.

"I’m sorry... I’m sorry..." She kept on whispering.

Upon reaching the gate, she saw another wounded person, this time, it was a woman.

The woman was covering the wound on her left arm. She was covered in dirt. She looked tired but when she saw Lu Xingyan, her faced showed how relieved she was.

"Jiejie..." Lu Xingyan cried, "He caught ****-gege..."

The woman’s relieved face was instantly replaced by pain, "It’s... Just the two of this time?"

"I’m sorry... I’m sorry..."

"It’s not your fault Xingyan... Let’s go... before he catches us..."

...

The dream felt so real. She was filled with mixed feelings. Fear, anger, regret, guilt, and sadness. She never met those people even once but for some reason, she really felt close with them. The pain felt so real when she remembered how that man was killed. She wanted to cry but she tried her best to hold it back.

She turned to her brother’s sleeping figure beside her and reached out to him. She patted his arm, "Gege..."

Lu Mello woke up with her pat, he turned his sleepy gaze at her, "Huh...? Xiao Chun, why are you awake?"

She lightly bit her lower lip. She tried her best to calm herself before she spoke up again, "Can you... accompany me to the kitchen?"

"Eh?"

"I’m... scared." She was feeling so thirsty but she didn’t want to get out of the room, knowing that she will be walking alone in the huge mansion.

Lu Mello noticed his sister’s pale face despite the dim light coming from the bed lamp.

With a worried look, he sat up and held her hand, "Did you have a nightmare?"

Lu Xingyan lowered her head, avoiding her brother’s gaze but she didn’t deny, "Mm..."

"It’s just a dream." He tried to comfort her. He could feel how scared she was when he felt his sister hold his hand back, giving it a tight squeeze.

"It felt so real..." The pain in her chest felt so true when she remembered how she left her companion to die.

Lu Mello inwardly panicked when he saw his sister’s tears. "Xiao Xing..."

The nightmare must have been so horrible for her, right?

He gently wiped her tears dry with his hand, "Nothing is going to happen." He wrapped an arm around her shoulder, "I’m here. That was just a dream and you’re awake now."

"Mmm..." She buried her face on her brother’s chest as she tried to calm herself with his words.

"Do you want me to bring a cup of hot milk for you?"

She weakly nodded, "Okay..."
