Chapter 70: Revelation of Light and In Battle

The next day.

We entered the dungeon early in the morning.

“We will be hunting today as well, but I am thinking about increasing the proficiency of Rifreya’s Spirit Abilities too.” (Hikaru)

“Proficiency…? It is true that I have heard Spirit Abilities increase in Tier when you use them often, but I have used them quite a lot, you know? At the very least, more than my little sister.” (Rifreya)

“There must be a difference between people.” (Hikaru)

I don’t even remember well what my 4th Ability was, and then it suddenly came to me.

I don’t know why Rifreya’s ability acquisition is bad.

However, if she properly uses them and uses them over and over, the path should open for sure.

Or more like, that’s the only thing we can do.

“First, the Light Ability…I think it is the Revelation of Light, let’s use that in full. I myself used the Revelation of Darkness, Darkness Fog, the whole time, and a whole lot of abilities popped from that.” (Hikaru)

“I see… It is true that I didn’t use Light that much in my explorations, and have been using Cure Glow the whole time…” (Rifreya)

“It is natural to use a healing ability instead of Light that serves as a substitute for a torch, but maybe that’s the source of the mistake?” (Hikaru)

Especially now that we have advanced to the 3rd Floor. There’s no situation where she can use Light.

She is gonna end up using Cure Glow even more.

It is like me using Shadow Runner the whole time without using Dark Mist. Thinking of it in that way, the proficiency doesn’t increase, and you don’t learn other abilities.

This is solely from feeling alone, but I had some strange confidence in it. That’s because the sensation I get from using Darkness Fog and the other abilities is different. It is hard to put into words, but it is as if Darkness Fog is the only one that calls Dark Spirits…no, it is kinda like creating them.

“But I have been using Light pretty often too, you know? It is convenient in the 2nd Floor after all.” (Rifreya)

“Didn’t you use it as a substitute for a torch?” (Hikaru)

“…Yeah…” (Rifreya)

It really must be better to use it in battle.

For now, let’s test it out.

“Rifreya, you can use abilities 5 times a day, right?” (Hikaru)

“Y-Yes.” (Rifreya)

“Then, before going to the 3rd Floor, let’s use Light to defeat monsters in the 2nd Floor. Maybe an Ogre will do?” (Hikaru)

After deciding this, we moved.

We ignored the 1st Floor and arrived at the 2nd Floor.

Now that I have experienced the 3rd Floor, the 2nd Floor is dark, damp, and makes me understand why it is called an underground prison. Well, this does give the feeling of a dungeon though.

“Then, I would like to ask this first, but is Light only bright? Is there like damage because of heat or something?” (Hikaru)

“It is only bright. It is just like your darkness. It isn’t tangible.” (Rifreya)

Then, we might be able to create some great effects if we coordinate her abilities with mine.

“Speaking of that, when I first met you, you used Light to erase my darkness. Wasn’t that because your ability was stronger than mine?” (Hikaru)

“No way that’s the case! If that’s how it worked, my ability wouldn’t be able to erase your ability at all. That’s the ‘Rewriting of Elements’. Light and Darkness are opposing elements, so the one that comes after always wins. Light and Dark Spirits are apparently the same, and it is apparently related to that.” (Rifreya)

“The one that comes after always wins…? Seriously?” (Hikaru)

“I am more surprised that you don’t know that, Hikaru.” (Rifreya)

I thought Spirit Abilities were strong and convenient, but that’s an unbelievable weakness.

Having Darkness Fog erased can be counted as fatal for me.

Even so, I feel like there aren’t that many monsters who would have the light element, so that might be a saving.

“There’s no need to worry that much. The only ones that can be overwritten are the abilities of the same type, you know? The same types of Light and Darkness are Revelation, Falsehood, and Call. Well, the falsehood one is an ability that creates only a clone of yourself, so the overwrite doesn’t matter though.” (Rifreya)

“I see…” (Hikaru)

It is a relief that the other abilities don’t get easily erased, but the fact that Light can certainly erase Darkness Fog should be something that I should always keep in mind.

Darkness Fog is literally my lifeline after all.

◇◆◆◆◇

We defeat Orcs and Goblins on the way in whatever way we see fit, and find an Ogre.

2 with weapons. Quite the strong opponents.

“I will confirm this again. You don’t get affected by the effects of your own Light, right?” (Hikaru)

“Y-Yeah, I don’t. I do get the benefit of seeing things brighter, but not to the point where I feel it is too dazzling.” (Rifreya)

“Then, I will just give you the signal, so match the timing and cast Light on the Ogre, and then attack with your sword. We won’t be able to tell unless we actually do it, so let’s test things out a whole ton.” (Hikaru)

“O-Okay!” (Rifreya)

I use Darkness Fog, and while still hiding in the darkness, I approach the 2 Ogres close together, and swallow the two by widening the range of my darkness.

Even though the monsters are walking around the dark 2nd Floor, they rely on their eyesight, and can’t deal with the pitch black darkness of Darkness Fog. I think Dark Mist wouldn’t have had much effect at all.

The Ogres had their vision obscured and were panicking.

Ogres hesitate to swing around their weapons when they have comrades, so they unexpectedly might have camaraderie.

Darkness Fog has an effective radius of 10 meters at most.

I get away from the Ogre to the very limit that is 10 meters, and give Rifreya the signal.

“Right now!” (Hikaru)

“Yes! [Light]!” (Rifreya)

At the same time as the Darkness Fog was erased, a dazzling ball of light appeared in front of the Ogres.

“Ugaaaaah!”

The 2 Ogres were burned by the sudden light and were writhing.

“It is working!” (Hikaru)

Just as expected, it seems to be effective against monsters that rely on eyesight.

Light and Darkness are two sides of the same coin. If darkness works, light should also work. That must be how their relationship works.

The Ogres were thrown into a state of confusion and were on the verge of dropping their weapons.

It is like suddenly looking straight at the sun after coming out from a pitch dark room. A human would be blinded by this and wouldn’t be able to see for a while.

It is a way too fatal opening in battle. At this point, the winner has been basically settled.

By the way, I covered my eyes with my arm, so I am somehow okay.

“[Shadow Bind]!” (Hikaru)

There’s no problem, but I bind the 2 Ogres just in case.

Bind normally only works on 1, but it is possible to widen the range. However, when I do, the binding is weakened greatly, and an Ogre could break free from them in around 2 seconds.

But 2 seconds is enough.

Not only are their eyes fried, they also can’t move, so Rifreya ended them with 2 continuous swings.

It ended up with an expected result, but with this, even without my abilities, it should be possible to stun them.

I think it is a pretty useful ability, but when it comes to Rifreya who can defeat an Ogre on her own, she probably didn’t think of using her abilities in this way when she only has 5 uses each day.

“Well, it is similar to how we usually do it, but that’s how it is when using abilities in actual combat. You will probably be able to increase your proficiency quite a bit if you do this every day.” (Hikaru)

It is not like I have the qualifications to be acting like a senior here, but I have the Status Board that can show me the proficiency, so you could say I have more information than her.

And I also know what conditions make it easier to raise them.

“T-True… I do feel like I have properly used my ability… I haven’t even thought about using this ability in combat… I thought…everything aside from Photon Ray were all like extra support abilities…” (Rifreya)

“Extra, you say… Rifreya, it is not like I have seen that many other abilities myself, but ‘Revelation’ is like the most important and fundamental ability, and I feel like the other ones are the extras. For my abilities, I wouldn’t be troubled without the others, but I would be if I didn’t have Darkness Fog.” (Hikaru)

“R-Right… I see…” (Rifreya)

Now that I think about it, the first time I met Rifreya, she said Light was a plain ability or something to that effect. Maybe that’s where the misunderstanding started.

No wonder the Light Spirits don’t lend her their help.
