Chapter 914: The Commotion In The Royal Palace

Rowena's gaze flickered over towards Julian's spilled wine over the tablecloth and the shattered goblet with a shaky heart. She wanted to reach out and try to figure out what it was, but she knew better than to ingest or even touch something out of nowhere.

"Everything will be fine." Rowena tried to calm herself as she looked at Julian with a painful expression. If she had agreed to leave with him, this wouldn't have happened, right? "Please hold on, Julian."

Prince Liam had already run out of the ballroom and she was frantic that he'd arrive back soon.

However, she couldn't just sit down and do nothing.

"Stop eating and drinking!" Rowena shouted and finally caught the attention of those who were too busy with the party to notice that something was amiss. She made Julian's head lean against her shoulder as she bit back down the panic in her chest. "Some people are getting poisoned."

"Huh?"

"Did she say poison?"

The people who heard her all seemed disturbed but also not entirely sure whether to believe her or not.

"Did she get drunk?"

Frustrated, Rowena met the gaze of King Xander who couldn't help but look in concern at Julian. The young man was pale and his lips were already blue.

King Xander didn't know how to explain it but his attention was torn away by Queen Serena who clutched his shirt and said. "Take care of me first, I don't feel too good."

"Your Majesty! Please do something!" Rowena looked at the older man. "I'm not lying, I wouldn't sabotage this event that was made in our honor if my concerns hold no value."

"Everyone, stop, and let's wait for a doctor to confirm it first," King Xander said at last.

"Prince Liam is already summoning one," Rowena said while her heart pounded.

One minute passed and then another.

Time seemed to stretch on and Rowena was furious about where Prince Liam was.

Did the prince run away after everything that happened?

People were in this situation and yet both the crown prince and royal doctor were nowhere to be found. She was tempted to stand up and search for the man himself, however, she couldn't leave Julian behind.

She was anxious that something might happen if she left him alone. However, the longer the time passed, the more it started to appear that she was losing hope.

"What if, what if someone orchestrated this and was after the royal family?" Rowena said to herself.

Something might have happened to Prince Liam along the way in search of the doctor and she and the rest of the people were none the wiser.

Several dark and terrible thoughts latched onto her mind and she was moments away from asking the King to stay with Julian when Prince Liam rushed back with an old man.

Queen Serena's expression suddenly shifted at the sight of the two together. It changed, even more, when a number of guards suddenly followed after them and arrived at the ballroom.

"What is the meaning of this Liam?" King Xander asked his son.

Prince Liam couldn't even look at his mother or father anymore as he balled his fists together and finally looked over at Rowena.

"Liam?" R

owena had a terrible feeling in her gut.

"I'm so sorry," Prince Liam apologized. His heart was filled with shame, guilt, and regret. He almost couldn't look at Rowena. Seeing her despondent, Liam took a deep breath.

"Seize my mother!" suddenly, he ordered firmly.

Queen Serena's eyes widened and she looked at her son, betrayed. "What do you think you're doing, Liam? Stand down, guards!"

Prince Liam's bodyguard shook his head. "Her Majesty, Queen Serena of Verona is to be captured for her organization twenty years ago on the assassination of Queen Gabrielle and her firstborn son."

"And what witness do you have?" Queen Serena hissed at him.

"My word, Your Majesty." The royal doctor, Gerald, looked at King Xander and knelt down. "I would have stayed in my cowardice if not for your son, Your Majesty. The truth is that Queen Serena asked me to poison your late wife."

"Lies!" Queen Serena clung to King Xander and looked at him with a desperate smile. "You know I wouldn't do that to Gabrielle, I would never do that to my own sister. Don't listen to them and ask them to stop this nonsense—they even fooled Liam."

"No, mother." Prince Liam said with a pained expression. "Enough with your lies, you manipulated me into poisoning Julian when I thought it was only a simple drug meant to give him an upset stomach. You wanted to get rid of Julian and the rest of the people here at the banquet."

"Liam! How dare you accuse your mother!" Queen Serena pulled away from King Xander and started to walk up towards him. She glared at her own son, her tone venomous and vicious. "I did not raise you this way—"

Meanwhile, King Xander froze in his place. He couldn't believe what he just heard. It was all too shocking and his mind refused to work. So... his wife didn't die because of childbirth? Gabrielle, the love of his life was killed... by her own sister?

"Oh, gods...." His body trembled and the king lost strength on his knees. He dropped to the floor in agony, the revelation gave him literal pain in his heart.

Rowena looked at the display happening and couldn't believe it. Tears stung her eyes, she shook her head and smiled in disbelief.

She looked at the royal doctor angrily. "For the love of all things—if Julian is poisoned then please help him! You, the royal doctor, come here and treat Julian now before it's too late!"

"No, help us!"

"My wife needs you, doctor!"

Far too many people were poisoned and were in need of medical attention, but they dared have a confrontation right now? Rowena was too furious that the royal doctor only chose to regret his actions when it was already too late.

How dare they?!

She didn't want to believe that Liam would hurt Julian, but he still did.

She couldn't care less about the royal family drama that was happening now as the crown prince Liam confronted his mother, she only wanted Julian to wake up now.

"I should have listened to you." Rowena bitterly looked down at her friend. "You were right, Julian... We should have gone out of here... Please, wake up and don't scare me anymore. Please. Wake up. Now, I will listen to you... Pleasee...."

The royal doctor only bore witness after a confrontation with the

crown prince, but now, the old man approached Rowena and fell to his knees. "Forgive me, I cannot do anything for him—the poison doesn't have a cure yet but I can–."

Rowena felt something within her snap and she grabbed the old man's collar and she shouted at him. "If you knew that then you should have thought twice before giving the poison to anyone! How could you?!"

"I'm so sorry—"

"Stabilize him! Prevent the poison from spreading anywhere else—just do something or I'll end your life." Rowena screamed at the doctor with a hoarse tone. Her eyes were completely red as she looked painfully at Julian. "You're not allowed to die, Julian. You can't leave me—"
