Lin Xiaofei did not know what Wu Xuanyi was screaming internally. However, there was no need for her to guess it either. Just wishful thinking of a young little girl... What was there for her to feel troubled about?
Looking at the young lady in front of her, Lin Xiaofei could see that Wu Xuanyi was indeed a good young lady for any young lad. She had a small head shape, delicate features, and the arrogant air of a noble. It must be because she was a military woman, and thus, her character on the battlefield influenced the air around her.
Lin Xiaofei heard of the Wu family. It was a small family with no achievements. There was only a young master who went for the annual examination and failed two times already. Wu Xuanyi, however, the young lady of the Wu family, was able to bring glory to their small family.
Wu Xuanyi was able to achieve many achievements in the military and made her family rise from just being a small family to a mid-rank noble family.
If anything else, Lin Xiaofei was actually impressed with Wu Xuanyi. Actually, if this young lady hadn't tried to covet what wasn't hers and antagonized her, Lin Xiaofei would probably pull Wu Xuanyi to her side merely because she was a talented woman in a world and era ruled by men.
"But isn't the Duke schedule a bit busy? I heard that he would always be locked up in his study checking reports from his subordinates." Wu Xuanyi could not wait to speak and find out whether Lin Xiaofei was lying. There was no way that the man she fell in love with would do some work in the garden, a job that was left to the servants. "This... I only heard this from Brother Jiang and Brother Ni. Whenever the Duke was away from the army, they would joke about him locking himself inside a room and do nothing else but do some work."
Lin Xiaofei sneered in her heart. How could she not see what Wu Xuanyi was doing and what her words meant?
Basically, Wu Xuanyi was calling her a liar.
"I also heard of that... Many young ladies in the capital talked about him being such a workaholic. However, it doesn't seem to be the case when he married me," said Lin Xiaofei. Bragging a little while also mentioning that what Wu Xuanyi heard from others was already spreading like wildfire in the capital. There was really no need for Wu Xuanyi to mention Jiang Sheng or Ni Zixuan's name since it was already widely known.
Wu Xuanyi bit her lips begrudgingly.
She almost couldn't suppress the jealousy in her heart!
Actually, Lin Xiaofei was right. Although Wu Xuanyi used Jiang Sheng and Ni Zixuan as a cover to let Lin Xiaofei know that they were very close with her and even treated her as a family that they'd disclose what the Duke has been doing inside his study. She completely forgot that the Duke of Xin was extremely popular in the capital that every young lady from a noble family house would know the rumors surrounding the Duke.
"Oh? Sister-in-law!" Qi Yandi called out from a distance when he saw Lin Xiaofei. He happily waved his hand and approached her, "What are you doing here? Brother Xing Xu has been looking for you..." He saw that someone else was with Lin Xiaofei and recognized who it was, "Ah? Wu Xuanyi, what are you doing here too?"
Wu Xuanyi gritted her lips when she heard that Qu Xing Xu was looking for Lin Xiaofei. But she needed to act as if nothing happened and greeted Qi Yandi.
But before she could even open her mouth to greet him, she heard Qi Yandi speaking again. And it was an accusation pointed at her.
"Wu Xuanyi, are you here to bully my sister-in-law?" Qi Yandi shook his head and continued, "You shouldn't do that. Sister-in-law is a delicate young lady while you're trained in the military. If you bully her, what would I tell Brother Xing Xu?"
Then, he stepped forward and made a cold expression on his face. "And besides, if you really bullied sister-in-law, I'll be the first to right your wrongs."
Wu Xuanyi was beyond speechless.
When has Qi Yandi ever said these words to her? When did he show such a ruthless face to her? The Qi Yandi that she knew was a soft and cheerful man who would always have a smile on his lips even when he was in front of his enemies.
Qi Yandi was widely known on the battlefield as the Smiling Raccoon because of his always smiling face. Towards the people in their army and ranks, Qi Yandi would treat everyone as if they were part of his family, calling them brother and sister. However, this was the first time that Wu Xuanyi saw his face carrying that ice-cold glint in his eyes as if everything she knew about him was all fake.
"There's no need for that, Brother Qi," Lin Xiaofei interrupted and patted him on the shoulder. "This young lady surnamed Wu is only trying to show me around the garden since the time I've stayed here; all I see is everybody's faces. She thought that it would be nice for a change of pace and invited me to watch the beautiful garden."
Upon hearing Lin Xiaofei's words, Qi Yandi sighed. He knew that Wu Xuanyi liked Qu Xing Xu. However, there was a limit to admiring someone from afar and admiring someone while harboring evil intentions. Wu Xuanyi definitely belonged to the latter, and that worried Qi Yandi.
Thankfully, she didn't do anything to his sister-in-law, or else he would be forced to do something about her. Preferably, throw Wu Xuanyi again in the hen house and let her stay there for a week instead of for a few hours only.
"But... this garden is too little, and there's nothing beautiful about it. Look at the wild grass everywhere! And those flowers could be found in my servant's backyard." Qi Yandi was a little suspicious.
"Exactly," Lin Xiaofei smiled, "But how could I refuse Young Miss Wu's sincere invitation. In any case, I enjoyed the fresh air and got to see what the garden looks like carefully."
Wu Xuanyi flinched. The words that Lin Xiaofei uttered seemed to have some meanings, but she couldn't catch them.
She felt suffocated just by being around Lin Xiaofei.
