When Lu Chen arrived in the patrol camp, there was already someone waiting for him with a jar in his hands.
It was Jian. When he saw Lu Chen arriving, he handed the jar to Lu Chen and said, “Master Wuzu wants you to have it.”
Lu Chen opened the jar and realized it was filled with the herbal soup and a smile radiated across his face.
“Thank you.”
“It’s from Master Wuzu. I’m just a delivery man.”
After saying that, Jian didn’t take his leave immediately. Instead, he looked at Lu Chen with hesitation and asked seconds later, “Are you still planning on hunting the Evils tonight?”
When he heard the question and saw the excitement in Jian’s eyes, Lu Chen answered straight away, “You are going to hunt the Evils like me as well.”
“Yes.”
After he heard Jian’s reply, the only thought in Lu Chen’s mind was just how brave the barbarians were, especially the young ones, their courage was almost off the charts.
He shook his head and crushed Jian’s unrealistic plans, “Don’t ever think about doing any unnecessary calls. There are reasons for the rules of the village. I’m only a special case, else, I wouldn’t go out there and hunt either.”
If it weren’t for the Mastery Points, Lu Chen wouldn’t even put himself in danger.
However, Jian didn’t answer to Lu Chen’s advice. Seeing that, Lu Chen also didn’t say anymore.
Although Jian was a young talent in the village, he had his own family. Lu Chen had no reason to take care or take responsibility for every single action Jian took.
In fact, he wouldn’t even care to give any advice if Jian wasn’t part of the village.
He picked the food and hot soup in his hands and tread past Jian and headed toward the patrol stations with the two barbarians that patrolled with him last night.
While patrolling, one of the two barbarians asked, “Ah’Chen, is there anything we can help you out with?”
Lu Chen was surprised by the passions in their questions as he thought the two might apply to leave the team. After all, Lu Chen was going to hunt outside of the border and it’s risky to be in the same team as well.
However, it was Lu Chen who had it the wrong way. If they were in a peaceful era, it was likely they would leave.
But that wasn’t the case, even when there was the totem pillar protecting the village, there were still often Evils that could infiltrate the border. Therefore, even if Lu Chen didn’t go out there, the patrol team was still always exposed to danger as well.
On the other hand, the benefits of following Lu Chen were clear. After all, not all patrol teams could take on the Evils. In fact, most of the time, there would always be casualties when the patrol teams bumped into the Evils.
The patrol teams exist mostly to alert the village of incoming Evils.
However, things would be quite different if they followed Lu Chen around. If Lu Chen could take on Evils even outside of the border, there would be no problem for him to take down Evils inside of the border, they weren’t even needed to get involved in the battles. Furthermore, Lu Chen’s prowess didn’t seem like he needed their help either.
Which was why they thought they would actually be safer staying with Lu Chen.
Hence, unless Lu Chen asked them to get out there and hunt with him, they would never leave Lu Chen’s side.
Them offering to help now was to show their allegiance to the team. After all, even when the barbarians were pure and innocent in nature, they still had their own little plans when it came to their own lives.
Lu Chen wasn’t that clear about their little plans. He was new to the patrol team, he had no idea how stressful their situations were.
He thought for a bit and said, “Just like last night will do. Stay behind and watch the back. No matter what happens, don’t come forward.”
Heading out to hunt was Lu Chen’s own decision, therefore, he would fully take the consequences on his own as well. At the same time, the two barbarians were too weak and easily controlled by the Evils. Hence, Lu Chen chose to let the two stay behind.
The barbarians heaved a breath of relief after listening to Lu Chen’s answers. At the same time, they felt awkward for not being helpful at all. After some silence, one of them said, “Ah’Chen, let me help you hold your stuff.”
Lu Chen thought about it and nodded, “Alright.”
Then, he passed the food to them, raised his metal sword, and observed his surroundings vigilantly.
The patrol team stayed that way for a long time while carrying out their patrol duties.
Some time passed and they arrived at the border of the totem pillar’s protections.
Lu Chen ordered the two to stand back while he stepped forward. But this time, he didn’t move out of the border immediately. Instead, he held an oil lamp in one hand and his metal sword on the other, and carefully inspected the dark night out there.
Lu Chen dare not go out so easily anymore after last night’s experience with the Evil drum.
However, as he didn’t have any detection skills, he couldn’t find anything strange in the surroundings.
On the other hand, his high-intensity of Vigor attracted a human-head fireball to approach him.
When he saw the human-head fireball roaming outside of the border trying to get to him, Lu Chen sighed.
Fine, whatever. It’s only a waste of time when I don’t have any detection skills. I’ll start the hunt and earn more Mastery Points. Let’s hope I can get a detection skill in the future.
As he thought, he stepped forward and exited the border.
As soon as he exited the border, the human-head fireball rushed straight toward Lu Chen.
However, a metal sword painted with blood stabbed through it in the middle.
Then, the fireball rekindled again just to be crushed by Lu Chen one more time.
At this point, Lu Chen was already not afraid of the human-head fireball anymore.
This was all thanks to Lu Chen’s strong Vigor that let him ignore these weak Evils.
But if it were someone else, they would be in huge trouble.
After all, it was extremely difficult to defeat the human-head fireball without strong Vigor. If the human-head fireball was not crushed, it could infiltrate into the bodies of the victims and that surely wouldn’t feel good.
As he thought, Lu Chen didn’t stop waving his sword. He crushed the human-head fireball three times in a row and killed it. After that, he quickly returned to the border and exited in another direction.
Let’s hope that rotating different locations can reduce my chance of bumping into dangerous Evils.
Thanks to his high-intensity Vigor, he attracted and killed six human-head fireballs in just the span of two hours.
At the same time, Lu Chen’s Vigor was faltering as well from the battles.
When he felt his Vigor was low, he didn’t push it and returned to the inner border. Then, he started to eat the meat wrapped in the leaf.
Feeling the meat getting digested in his stomach and the energy from it flowing in his body, Lu Chen nodded in satisfaction.
Surely enough, saving some food for the night to replenish the consumed energy is the right way to go.
A strong Constitution enhanced Lu Chen’s body in all aspects and he was especially happy with his enhanced digestive ability.
All the food he consumed was digested in just half an hour. In the mean time, the digested meat also replenished Lu Chen’s body to its peak state.
His Vigor was fully regenerated in just half an hour’s time, this showed just how good his regenerative ability was from the high Constitution.
Of course, a sufficient supply of food was required in the process.
After he regenerated his lost Vigor and energy, the next thing to do was naturally to continue his hunt. However, after patrolling one round around the village and checking the situation, Lu Chen’s face turned gloomy.
Why are there still so many human-head fireballs out there?
