When the sixth month rolled in, Liang Chengshan told the doctor to end the electrical currents. But Xie He still couldn’t sleep. Even when he realized the electrical shocks had ended, it didn’t help. Liang Chengshan left. He once again went into the dark room.
Xie He was exhausted and in immense pain. He hissed quietly and his struggles against the binds were so weak, he might as well not have been trying. But when he heard the sound of the footsteps, he immediately calmed down and a look of yearning and anticipation emerged on his face. He let out a somewhat shaky and happy voice. “You. Came. I....really missed you....”
Liang Chengshan gently freed Xie He from the chair, holding him in his arms. He gave Xie He a gentle kiss on the lips. “I’ve come. Don’t be afraid.”
Xie He’s voice was stiff and shaky but one could hear the love and admiration within. There was absolute trust and reliance reflected. “I’m. Not scared.... I. Knew. You would come....”
Liang Chengshan said, “I love you.”
