Chapter 87: Show Hand, Glutton

With the Little Tyrant, Su Bai no longer worried about the cub’s training. The Little Tyrant only did three things in a day: eat, sleep, and train. The speed of its progress was terrifying, and the cub also became more active upon feeling the heavy pressure. The effects of such training were very obvious.

On Thursday was Instructor Teng Yan’s class. Being from the army, his main responsibility was to improve the students’ physical fitness and guide them in training their pets.

“I’ll be teaching you how to hide, avoid monsters, and escape from them in the most common terrain, a forest. No matter what your strength is, escape is a necessary skill...”

After he gave them a lecture, he demonstrated combat practices in the woods behind the humanitarian school. Almost everyone in their class studied seriously, but the situation was not all good.

For example, Su Bai managed to understand the instructor’s main points quickly because he usually ran very fast in the forest.

After training everyone one by one, Teng Yan announced, “Okay, now practice by yourself. Let your pets run after you. Soldiers have to go on battlefields; if you don’t learn life-saving skills, sooner or later you’ll face death.”

“Howl!”

“Roar!”

Both pets of Su Bai ran with him, but he was unable to get past them. Every few hundred meters, the two would grab him and press him to the ground for treats.

“Ah, I can’t do this anymore! You two, stop torturing me!” He lay on the ground and refused to get up. Humans had their limits.

“Lend me your cub to practice with for a while. How can I possibly get past Xiao Bai’s sightless obstacle?” Chen Rouxue walked over and requested. freewebno(v)el.com

He nodded and patted the cub. “Cutie, play with Rouxue for a while; I’ll take your brother with me.”

He then gave a portion of the medicinal cake to his girlfriend in front of the cub. “Play with her for now; I have something else to do.”

“Is that okay, cutie?” asked Chen Rouxue with a grin.

“Howl!”

Without hesitation, the cub followed her. It secretly thought that it would return to Ah Bai after cheating all the treats away from this human girl.

Meanwhile, Su Bai brought the Little Tyrant to the instructor and said abashedly, “Teacher Teng Yan, can you teach my pet to learn the Collision and Tail Strike skills? I don’t have money to buy him skill jades.”

Tail Strike and Crush Claw were both physical attack skills. The use of spiritual power was not complicated and could be learned through this method, but skills such as Fire Blaze were very difficult to learn through face-to-face mentoring due to their emphasis on complicated use of spiritual power.

For example, his new pet had basically learned the Crush Claw skill under the cub’s guidance.

“You’re really straightforward.” Teng Yan’s lips twitched. This boy acted as if it was honorable to be broke. Still, he was willing to teach motivated students like him.

According to his information, this boy’s family was very ordinary. However, having managed to obtain a primary pet with a potential score higher than ninety and a secondary pet which was just as powerful, he definitely had a bright future.

“Your new pet is a Purgatory Tyrant, isn’t it? Was it slightly mutated?” he asked with a smile. This mutation could not be hidden from the eyes of a veteran professional Pet Tamer.

“Yes.” Su Bai nodded.

“I can teach it the Death Collision and Multiple Tail Strike. These are very powerful melee physical attack skills, but it will still depend on whether your pet can learn them well.” Teng Yan was more than happy to perform to the best of his duties.

As soon as he finished speaking, his contract book appeared out of thin air. The bright pages flipped fast until it stopped on a certain page. With a tap, a monster appeared on the ground.

A half-a-meter-tall black hairless squirrel with rippling muscles stood there upright.

“This is the Demon Muscle Squirrel, a high-level warlord. It’s good at melee fights and its forte is using Death Collision and the Multiple Tail Strike. Your pet can learn from it,” he said.

“Thank you, teacher.” Su Bai thanked the instructor and looked at his pet. “Work hard and I’ll reward you with a big meal later.”

“Roar!”

Hearing the promise of a big meal, the Little Tyrant walked up to the Demon Muscle Squirrel in high spirits.

Under Teng Yan’s order, the Demon Muscle Squirrel began teaching it Death Collision and Multiple Tail Strike.

Death Collision condensed spiritual power into spikes and used kinetic energy to cause damage to the enemy through rapid collision, while Multiple Tail Strike caused multiple damage through a single tail flick, which required high skills.

After teaching the basics, the Demon Muscle Squirrel started practicing with the Little Tyrant. Although the former was merciful, the latter was still sent flying every time, and it hurt to even watch this.

“Roar!”

However, through the pain, the Little Tyrant obtained a deeper grasp of the skills. Being beaten made it progress fast.

The Little Tyrant’s fierce eyes revealed its desire to become stronger for food, and it learned even more seriously. The instructor could not help but praise it upon seeing this scene. “Your pet has a good character and is very motivated. It’ll quickly learn the beginner skills.”

Soon, class ended. The Little Tyrant walked in front of its owner, full of wounds. First, it had broken a tree on the left with Death Collision and, second, it had cut the tree on the right into three parts with a single blow of Multiple Tail Strike.

“Roar!”

Its small eyes were still fierce but revealed a desire to be praised.

“You’re amazing, baby; I’m so proud of you.” Su Bai knelt before his pet and hugged it, all the while feeling bad for it.

“Roar!” The Little Tyrant also copied his gesture and gently hugged him. It then sat on the ground and looked eagerly at him.

The cub unleashed its Thorns Domain to heal its sibling, while Chen Rouxue took out a bottle of healing potion.

Su Bai put two large bowls of energy medicinal cakes in front of the Little Tyrant.

The classmates beside him no longer had the same contempt and doubt in their eyes but were, instead, full of deep admiration. They were tempted to own such a pet, too.

Just based on their instructor’s words, it really appeared not to be afraid of hardships or pain. It learned two skills after being beaten for more than an hour, which was an absolutely commendable feat even if it was for rewards.

Looking at their pets, they were afraid that none could do the same thing.

...

Early in the morning, the cub collected another cup of morning dew and carefully poured it into the flowerpot with Purple Screen. It widened its eyes and stared intently at the flower.

As the dew dripped, a small green stem sprouted from the soil and grew a few millimeters, making the cub stand up in contentment.

This Purple Screen flower had been cultivated by it from a seedling. It had faithfully observed the flower until it showed life, opened its shell, took roots, and sprouted.

The cub blinked and there seemed to be something in its purple eyes. It gently lifted its paws, and a small dandelion seed appeared on them. Under the rippling green light, the seeds took root and sprouted, spreading the fresh aura of the beginning of life.

The cub looked at the small sprout in its hand and gently arranged it in the flowerpot.

It seemed to understand something, but this understanding was still hazy and uncertain.

It looked up and walked toward Su Bai. “Howl! (╯▽╰)”

Because it smelled the scent of food and saw him put a bowl down, it eagerly lowered its head and devoured the food.

“Eat slowly, you two,” instructed Su Bai, touching each of his treasures with his hands.

Both pets gobbled up their food like piglets. Especially the Little Tyrant, it would even choke from time to time. (*⊙~⊙).

Once both pets finished eating their meals, Su Bai took out a cloak and put it around the Little Tyrant.

“Let’s go.”

Today was the day of the five towns’ spring festival competition. He and his teammates would gather in town at 7 p.m. and then go to the district court at about 9 p.m. The competition would officially start thereafter.

“There’s free food to eat today; the kind you can eat casually.” He grinned. There was always no shortage of food for such a competition, with various manufacturers even urging the contestants to eat more.

Hearing this, both the cub and the Little Tyrant’s eyes lit up. The two were full of glutton thoughts.

“Big bro, are you confident today?” asked Su Yue. He had gone over to cheer him on.

“I may not need to play in the competition; I don’t think I need to go onstage today” was his reply. Why not let Shi Lei, Guo Dong, and the others do the hard work?

“That’s fine. Anyway, I wanna take a closer seat to watch the game.” His younger brother smiled.

“Let’s go, then.” He nodded.

They soon arrived at the rendezvous point in town.

Chen Tingting, Chen Rouxue, and Jiang Yang were already there, but Yang Zhou was still on his way.

“Is this your younger brother?” asked Jiang Yang upon seeing their resemblance.

“Yes, this is my younger brother, Su Yue. He also wanna watch the competition, so he’ll be sitting with you guys later. Please help me take care of him; I’ll treat you to a meal when I’m back.” Su Bai nodded.

“Hello, everyone.” Su Yue greeted them with a smile.

“Don’t worry; I’ll take care of your younger brother.” Jiang Yang promised and slung an arm around Su Bai’s sibling.

“Don’t worry; we’ll take care of him.” Chen Tingting also nodded.

“Okay. Su Yue, follow my classmates. We have to report first,” said Su Bai, relieved.

“Okay, go ahead big bro.” His younger brother nodded.

Su Bai and Chen Rouxue got up and gathered at the town’s training ground.

“Your brother is so cheerful. He became friends with Jiang Yang and the others so fast.” Chen Rouxue turned and commented.

They did not go far before hearing Su Yue talking to the others in full swing.

“He is a sociable person and isn’t afraid of strangers.” Su Bai shrugged.

“Today’s schedule is very tight. I hope that we can draw lots and watch the others play first,” said Chen Rouxue with a sigh.

The format of the entire competition had already been issued. There were five teams from five towns, and the first round would be decided by drawing lots. One team would be free to advance directly to the next round.

The remaining four teams would compete in pairs, and the winner would directly advance to the next round.

The two losers would have to compete again and could only advance to the next round once either emerged victorious.

The next stage was for the remaining four teams to play in the knockout rounds pair by pair. Two winners would advance to the finals, while two losers would be third and fourth place.

In the last game, the two winners would fight over the championship.

There were a total of seven rounds.

“It’s okay. With you covering for me, I’m not afraid.” Su Bai hugged his girlfriend.

“I charge protection fees. You’ll have to pay me first.” Chen Rouxue raised her head and giggled.

“Is a kiss enough?” Grinning, he kissed her blushing cheek.

“Go away! I only acknowledge money; don’t just kiss me...” Chen Rouxue pushed him away, blushing as she pretended to be annoyed.

“Then there’s no other way. I’m poor; all I have is my body.” He shrugged.

“Hmph. If you have no money, then sell your body. Be my little brother, and I’ll cover for you.” She glared at him, her snowy-white face all red. Although there was nobody on the street at this time of the morning, Chen Rouxue was still shy to be kissed by her boyfriend.

“What’s the problem? I’ll sell myself to you indefinitely.” The boy leaned in and smiled. “Say, are you greedy for my body?”

“Go away! If you have the ability, don’t run!” The stunned her immediately chased him as she vowing to teach the guy a lesson for not admitting that he had taken advantage of her.

“Hehe!”

“Howl!”

“Roar!”

The three pets also jumped around in joy on the road.

After a while, Su Bai was stopped by the three pets. Purple Jade and Little Tyrant’s self-righteous backstab always caught him off guard.

“Why don’t you keep running? Repeat what you said moments ago!” Chen Rouxue grabbed his arm and giggled.

“I was wrong; I’m the one who’s greedy for your body, okay?” He hugged her shoulder and admitted his mistake.

“Hmph. You meanie!” She pushed him away. “Let’s go to the gathering spot; it’s time to be serious.”

“Of course, we’re serious. Serious people fall in love.” Su Bai grinned.

He just glared a little angrily at his pets. Why do you two always have to stab me in the back?

The pets seemed not to have noticed his glare. One was walking leisurely as if on a catwalk, while the other was gnawing on a volcanic rock.

Su Bai: “...”

Soon, they arrived at the training ground. Wang Er and Shi Lei were already there.

Guo Dong was uncomfortable to see the couple together. D*mn it, Su Bai.

Although the two were laughing on their way over, when they reached the rendezvous point, Su Bai lost his smile and he came in with a blank expression.

Guo Dong simply disliked seeing them together. Wang Er did not care. Shi Lei was the most annoying, really disgusting.

After the class monitor was dismissed from his position on Wednesday, it was unknown how the guy did it, but somehow, the rumor that Su Bai and Chen Rouxue were dating.

It made Su Bai very uncomfortable, for even when he went to the comfort room, a group of people would still ask questions.

“Today, we’re going to look at Su Bai’s performance in a fight. It doesn’t matter if you take a bigger share, but you’ll just have to bear more responsibilities, right?” Shi Lei started up again when he walked over.

“I advise you to shut up.” Su Bai frowned.

“Heh, did I provoke you with my words? Since you had the ability to take benefits on your own, why couldn’t I say it?” Shi Lei remained unmoved and continued with his provocation, clearly wanting to disgust Su Bai. Isn’t he very impressive? Hmph. If he has the ability, why don’t he hit me?

“Pets, attack! Don’t beat him to death; just let him feel pain,” commanded Su Bai, unable to bear it anymore.

The moment they received his order, his pets rushed forward.

“Little Rock, retaliate and protect me!” hurriedly shouted Shi Lei. He was shocked to find that his classmate really dared to hurt him.

With a bang, his pet was swept away by several vine whips before he even took a shot. In front of the cub, who had evolved into a Wood Spirit, it was simply substandard.

Seeing the huge balls of flame and vine whips raining down, horror enveloped him. He collapsed to the ground in fright and did not dare to say a word for a long time.

He finally understood the gap in strength between them. His Little Rock monster could not even resist a single blow from the Vine Whip.

“Before talking nonsense next time, weigh your own strength. Do you think you have the right to be barking at this level?”

Su Bai glanced at the collapsed boy and called back his pets. It was not worthwhile to fight with such a person, and beating him up once was enough.

“What are you two doing? Are you gathering here to fight before the competition?” Chen Bo rushed over and shouted anxiously.

“Nothing. We’re just relaxing the tension in the team.” Su Bai shrugged and did not bother explaining further.

“Yes, some people talk too much; it’s good to teach them a lesson.” Wang Er sneered.

Guo Dong also nodded. “That’s right. They’re just playing, not fighting.”

“You...” Shi Lei looked up at Guo Dong, feeling incredulous. Whose side is he on?

The youth in question glanced at him disdainfully. “I thought you’re a very capable person, but I realized that you’re even worse than Yang Zhou. You only know how to talk. Why would I be on your side?”

Shi Lei froze in place and clenched his fists tightly.

Chen Bo glanced at him and said, “Don’t make trouble here and quickly get up. The competition today is very important. We have to set off now.”
