Chapter 365: Changqing, don’t worry. If someone bullies you next time, tell Brother Shaobin. I’ll definitely help you

“Aren’t you going to give Brother Molun a call?” Changqing nudged her.

Jiang Duoyao stuttered and didn’t move for a long time while holding onto her phone. She was vexed. She was currently very grateful toward him, but she hadn’t adjusted emotionally. Just as she was thinking, Xiling called. She accepted the call and before she could say anything, Xiling screamed over the phone. “Jiang Duoyao, you’re awesome! What did you do? How did you suddenly terminate the contract and peacefully at that? OH MY GOD. This has never happened in the company. You’re the first person. Sister Shuang even got me to contact you just now to make a trip down to the company to move out your things and while you’re at it, the company will settle the remaining money owed to you. What kind of backing do you have that even CEO Kang can’t do anything to you? Why didn’t you tell me earlier? You made me so worried for the past two days. I was so afraid.”

Duoyao had never heard anyone say that she had a “backing”. After thinking about it for a while, she felt an inexplicable sense of delight. She didn’t think that there would be a day when she could do whatever she wanted because of a man. “Then will you still stay with the Kang Corporation or do you want to leave with me? To be honest, I do need some help. If you’re coming over, you can be my manager.”

“I have to go with you. I’ll only have a future with you.” Xiling was a little embarrassed after saying that. “Duoyao, I didn’t leave with you the last time you asked me but now that you’ve successfully terminated your contract, I... would you find me...”

“That’s not important. You weren’t wrong to think that way.” Duoyao interrupted her. “You’re not like me—your livelihood depends on your work. If you were to stick with me before, it would’ve indeed been too much of a risk. I wasn’t 100% sure that I could terminate my contract either. If I had to pay a lump sum compensation fee, I reckon I wouldn’t even have had money to pay you even if you were to leave with me. However, it’s different now. I think a new managing company will contact you very quickly.”

“Duoyao, thank you. As long as you’re willing to trust me, I’m also willing to follow you. When I hand in my resignation letter, I’ll bring some of my disciples along with me,” Xiling said.

“Sure. Notify the company that I’ll be going over tomorrow.” After Duoyao hung up, she saw that there were a few missed calls. There were some from Guan Ying, her parents, and some familiar directors...

...

Duoyao basically spent the entire afternoon answering phone calls and calling people back. After news of her contract termination with the Kang Corporation spread, there were many people who tried to sound her out or provide her with some resources immediately.

At around 5 pm, the doorbell rang. Not long later, Li Shaobin and Yan Molun walked in together. When the two arrived at the door, Lolita, who was lying on the floor, suddenly barked fiercely at Li Shaobin.

Auntie Zhang went over to pull Lolita away and said with a smile, “Lolita must’ve remembered you’re the one who took her puppy away. She must be angry.”

“What a fierce female dog who holds grudges.” Li Shaobin shook his head profusely. “No wonder she could tame Robben, that lecherous dog.”

Changqing heard his voice and walked to the door with a smile. “Brother Shaobin, how’s Charlotte doing?”

“She’s living a life better than humans with me,” Li Shaobin said with a chuckle. “I wanted to bring her over but I was afraid she wouldn’t want to leave again after seeing Robben and Lolita.”

Yan Molun changed his shoes silently and walked in. He saw Jiang Duoyao, who was sitting on the couch, her eyes darting around like a doe with a large plate of fruits and nuts in front of her and he smiled. It was good she could still eat. He was afraid she got such a fright in the morning that she wouldn’t have the appetite to eat anything. “Have you two been eating the entire day?”

Duoyao hung her little head low. Why did he suddenly appear? She hadn’t even prepared herself mentally yet.

Yan Molun could detect her evasive gaze and his eyes dimmed.

Li Shaobin didn’t perceive anything. He sat on the couch while laughing loudly and said, “Little sister Duoyao, you didn’t see how imperious your Molun was today. He scared Kang Anhe and his father so much that they signed obediently and quickly.”

Yan Molun swept a glance at him. “I didn’t do anything. You were the one who was shouting and berating them at the side. I was very refined.”

Li Shaobin rolled his eyes. “Yeah. You didn’t do anything but your face looked like you were out to kill. You’re scarier than me.”

Yan Molun rubbed his glabella silently. He brought Li Shaobin over with the intention of easing the atmosphere but didn’t expect Shaobin to diss him instead. He shouldn’t have brought Li Shaobin along. “I wasn’t out to kill. That’s called an aura. An aura that can suppress the other party. You smacked him with a youtiao and scared them.”

Li Shaobin was bewildered and felt something was amiss. “Alright, alright. It was all because of me. I doubt this thing would’ve been settled so smoothly if not for me. So... Little Duoyao, why don’t you treat me to a meal?”

The corners of Yan Molun’s lips twitched. He didn’t want Li Shaobin to take all the credit. “There’s no need for that. All you did was shout and throw a youtiao. If it wasn’t for me, things wouldn’t have been settled so quickly.”

“...” Li Shaobin: “Old Yan, did you take the wrong medicine? When I praised you, you said you didn’t do anything. When I praised myself, you said it was all because of your efforts. What do you want?”

Changqing nodded. She also felt that Brother Molun was making trouble with him.

Duoyao also looked at Yan Molun with bewilderment. Yan Molun turned his face away expressionlessly. He must’ve hung out with Li Shaobin for too long, causing him to become like this. “Where’s Chuyi? When’s Chuyi coming back?”

He changed the topic just like that.

“After he gets off.” Changqing looked at the time. “That’ll be in more than an hour. Do you guys want to stay for dinner?”

Duoyao replied softly, “I ate at your house during the day and if I eat here again at night, I would feel a little bad.”

Li Shaobin laughed out loud. “Even you would feel bad? Stop kidding me.”

Duoyao glared at him. Can this person not expose me?

Yan Molun watched as the two of them “made eyes” at each other and for some reason, he felt a rising fury. “Since you feel bad, let’s go.”

Duoyao was stunned. Couldn’t he tell that she was just trying to sound polite? She didn’t want to go back for dinner. Although he cooked well, he didn’t know how to cook as many dishes as Auntie Zhang.

Changqing was slightly taken aback. “It’s okay; we’re all good friends. The more the merrier.”

“That’s right.” Li Shaobin also nodded. “If you two were to leave, leaving me to face Old Song alone, that’ll be boring.”

“We’d better... stay for dinner,” Duoyao pressed her lips together and said a little unwillingly.

“That’s right,” Li Shaobin said as he crossed his legs. “Why don’t we play cards for a while?”

“I don’t want to play with you.” Changqing rejected him outright. “You and Brother Molun have a casino background and Duoyao has Brother Molun to help her. It’s me against all of you—I would definitely be bullied.”

“You make it sound like I’m ungentlemanly. How could I bully a pregnant woman?” Li Shaobin pouted.

Changqing didn’t believe him. He could even bully Ruan Yang last time, much less herself. Only a fool would talk about being gentlemanly in front of Li Shaobin.

——————-

When Song Chuyi returned after 6 pm, there were five to six people sitting in the living room but he could only hear his wife and Li Shaobin chattering about. He raised his eyebrows. “What are you guys doing here?”

“We came because we missed you,” Li Shaobin said with a sweet smile.

Song Chuyi glared at him and scolded, “Scram.”

After saying that, his gaze landed on the pile of rubbish on the coffee table. He frowned. “Were you snacking the whole day again? I told you that you could snack but not too much.”

Changqing pouted and looked pitiful. “I didn’t eat much; they were the ones eating.”

Li Shaobin and Duoyao rolled their eyes secretly. She was the one who ate the most and she even had the cheek to push the blame onto her guests.

“Old Song, don’t lecture your wife the moment you come back,” Li Shaobin said very gentlemanly.

Changqing turned her face away silently and said, aggrieved, “Brother Shaobin, you have no idea. Ever since I got pregnant, I’ve been his punching bag every day and listen to whatever he says.”

“Aiyo, Changqing, don’t worry. If anyone bullies you next time, tell Brother Shaobin. I’ll definitely help you.” Li Shaobin comforted her loyally.

“Brother Shaobin, I can’t believe you’re such a nice guy,” Changqing said while currying his favor.

Li Shaobin laughed merrily upon hearing that. “Actually, I’m nicer than Old Yan and Old Song.”

Yan Molun and Song Chuyi exchanged gazes. There was a fire burning in both their eyes and they both got the urge to throw this Li Shaobin out. They had no idea why this fellow could be so close to their girlfriend and wife.

...

During dinner, Li Shaobin could sense the deep hostility from Yan Molun and Song Chuyi. However, he didn’t care about it anyway—he had a thick skin. So he after he chatted with Changqing, he continued chatting with Duoyao, and the three had a merry conversation.

When dinner ended, Yan Molun stood up and said to Duoyao gloomily, “You’ve had lunch and dinner. Let’s go. Let’s not disturb Changqing and Chuyi anymore.”

Changqing said, “Aiyaya, how is this disturbing? Duoyao and I are good friends. It doesn’t even matter even if she stays over here.”

Song Chuyi couldn’t stand his low-IQ wife anymore and looked askance at her while saying lightly, “It’s good that they’re leaving earlier—it’s not safe to drive at night. Shaobin, you should go back earlier too. Don’t forget that there’s still Charlotte at home. Your puppy is still young and she needs the care and company of her owner.”

“Yeah. I have to go back to take care of my Charlotte.” Upon hearing Song Chuyi’s words, Li Shaobin started missing his soft little puppy at home. “Changqing, remember to drop by my place next time to visit Charlotte. She is exceptionally cute right now.”
