Volume 11, Chapter 1: Sudden Notification

(Three days ago)

In the afternoon, after the combat practical, I, Oyado and Aliyah were hiding in the grasses of a forest, watching a spot a short distance away and quietly waiting.

This is already the seventh day we’ve been here. Just about every day, a group of simple giant monsters pass through here and killing even a single one of them nets a lot of exp.

In order to maintain balance in the ecosystem and sustain development, while we’re squatting here we’ll only destroy one or two a day, and focus on the monsters that look older. That way we can reduce their average age.

Basically, it’s a good thing for both sides.

“Fir, aren’t they going to come today?”

Usually the monsters would have come by now. Today it’s been 10 minutes and there’s been no noise.

I mean, there’s heavy footsteps when they came. I mean, we’ve been coming here for a week and were already very familiar with their footsteps.

“No, they’re coming.”

Said Oyado.

“Although their cries are still far away, it is definitely them. But......”

Oyado quietly drew her dagger.

“Is sound like there is another creature there.”

“In other words, those monsters learned to find a powerful bodyguard?”

Aliyah said, interested. A grin across her face.

“That’s not bad. We’ll get more exp after all.”

“Naturally, the premise...... it’s good if we could dispose of a new enemy quickly.”

The footsteps came gradually came from the nearby woods, I put on the ‘Eyepiece of Truth’ and increased the odds of a skill triggering.

The enemy’s title was revealed soon after that.

But the enemy’s title surprisingly wasn’t as simple as we thought.

“Well, it seems that this enemy is going to be difficult.”

I said as I pushed the glasses up.

“Why do you say that?”

“That guy......Is it just one person? That’s not right, I should say that they have only one monster.”

“Huh?”

By my side, Aliyah turned and looked at me in confusion.

“What do you mean?”

“What Big Brother means is that there is only one monster, but it is imitating the sounds of several monsters......Yeah, now that I listen closely, there’s a problem with their footsteps. Especially the sounds of our original targets’ footsteps, if you listen carefully, they’re coming out in a certain order.”

“So?”

“So then......”

I continued Oyado’s words.

“They were probably either mimicking them in a certain order, or they recorded them in that order and are just playing it back.”

“Recorded?”

Aliyah had a strange expression.

“Can the sound of the footsteps be recorded? To the point that even the vibrations are copied?”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“But to create this feeling, though there are a few illusion techniques that can be used by monsters.”

“幻术!?那我们......”

“Illusions!? Then we......”

“Well, don’t worry. It’s pretty obvious that the enemy is a magic beast that can do mimicry.”

Under my Eyepiece of Truth, their attributes are shown.

Combined Living Liquid

LV50

In addition to having a high defense, it’s good at using the liquids in its body to imitate other creatures and create confusion.

Somewhere in its body is a transparent core, the only part of its body that isn’t a liquid.

Its weakness is ice attacks.

Even after you’ve seen all of it’s skills, there is still a lot that needs to be done to completely finish it off.

“Unyielding Stone Chains.”

Even though they still hadn’t responded, six stone pillars thrust up from the ground, straight through the area that the liquid monster’s footstep enchantment was coming from.

Obviously they immediately responded to the attack, their body immediately pulled back into a defensive state, but I wouldn’t give them the opportunity.

“Extreme Deep Chill.”

A blue magical formation appeared beneath it and in the next instant it’s body had been frozen solid.

“It’s your’s.”

“Got it~”

“Make sure to smash it.”

Aliyah’s hair instantly turned red. In a crimson flash, her figure appeared away from us and the monster I had fixed inside of the stone pillars had already been slashed into a fine powder.

Naturally that was everything but the innermost transparent sphere.

However, along with the appearance of the ball, another figure appeared.

Oyado, armed with a miniature pile driver, jumped on top of the core and aimed at it.

What the heck? Who gave that to you? Don’t you use daggers?

With a crack, the core fell into pieces and at the same time the notification for the end of the battle appeared.

End of Battle

Assistance Experience gained 4000

The level of the monster was relatively low, and it wasn’t my kill, so the experience I gained was naturally going to be lower.

But killing a few more should probably do it.

“That was simple.”

Aliyah put her swords away.

“Yeah, but tomorrow we are going to have to find somewhere else to suppress. It’s obvious that there isn’t any suitable monsters in this forest anymore. Even though Snake Eye was causing monsters to appear more often, there isn’t enough for us to kill.”

“Well, that’s what I was saying......but......”

It was then that I received a message from Ms. Mari.

“We don’t have to worry about that, it seems we have something to do.

“Eh? Something? There’s something more important than combat training?”

“Treasure Hunting.”

I forwarded the message to Aliyah. She stared blankly, probably reading the message. After a little bit her eyes started to glow green.

“Let’s go! What are we waiting for!”

“No way, it’s a week from now.”

“But we should go back home and group everyone up.”

“That’s true, but......”

I began to feel a cold sweat.

“I feel that it isn’t going to be so easy with my class......”
