Volume 7, Epilogue

When she woke up ― it was all over.

The disgusting stench that made her sense of smell go crazy forcibly awakened her consciousness.

When she raised her upper body, she saw the burnt corpses of soldiers covering the grassland.

“Guh… why am I still alive?”

At that time, she should have been surrounded by flames and turned to dust. But there was no pain anywhere in her body, only a dull ache from the beating that echoed inside her.

There was someone who called out to her in such confusion.

“…You are awake?”

The figure was nothing short of bizarre.

He was wearing an eerie mask and a white military uniform, sitting majestically in a world full of death.

“……Who are you?”

She tried to keep her eyes sharp and put on a determined face, but the strange presence of the man who sat in front of her made her feel pressured to the point of surprise.

She couldn’t stop sweating. Her body begins to tremble with fear. She felt as if her life was being cut away ― her soul was gutted as easily as if her flesh was being chipped off.

“I’m glad you’re fine. It would have been a waste of her resolve if you died.”

Every time the masked man opened his mouth, an unusually fierce fighting spirit burned her skin.

“There are two ways you can go now.”

“……”

“You can either wait to rot on the old battlefield, or you can walk to the new battlefield.”

Which one will you choose? Said the man. The man’s eyes were all over her as if he was judging her.

Thirst was rapidly advancing, and her lungs were raging for oxygen.

There was a long moment of silence between the two, and then the masked man sighed and moved.

“Two choices ― it’s difficult to decide. But after you choose, it’s simple.”

The man said and slowly, slowly raised his arm.

“Kuh…”

She reacted and braced herself.

“You don’t have to overreact so much.”

The man approached quietly, putting his hand on the mask covering his face.

And then――,

“Do you want a rebirth? Or do you want the end?”

After removing the mask, the man’s true face was revealed.

At that moment, her mind went completely blank.

“……I’ll kill you.”

What came out naturally was a clear intent to kill.

“Then I’ll give you hope.”

The man laughed in a way that was not only refreshing but even frightening.
