Chapter 26,Part 2: Finding Money

With the first successful sale accomplished, soon enough, the second batch of customers also arrived.

The customers were a grandma and her little grandson.

“Are these steamed buns?”

“Yes.”

“How much do you sell them for?”

“The ones with meat are 2 yuan, and the others without meat are 1 yuan and 50 pieces.”

“How do you know which ones have meat and which are meatless?” the old lady said, looking down at the ‘weirdly shaped’ buns.

“There are differences. This one has bean paste filling, and this one has…” Lin Momo introduced the differences of her buns to the new customers in front of her.

Lin Cheng, who was on the side, glanced at Lin Momo, a little surprised. This kid could actually remember what the buns with their different fillings looked like, and she remembered them all correctly.

Before the old lady could speak, the grandson beside her spoke first, “I want that big dia dinosaur!”

Big dia dinosaur? What in the world??

“Do you mean this?” Lin Momo asked, pointing to the three pointed buns.

“Yes! That ‘s it, I want Baru beast too!”

“This one?”

“And more, I want…”

On the side, the two adults watched the miraculous conversation between the two children, and the corners of their mouths twitched slightly: they really couldn’t understand how the children’s brains worked.

With the many orders of the grandma’s little grandson, Lin Momo and her dad sold a total of 8 steamed buns during this transaction!

The reason why the grandma bought their steamed buns was not just to make her grandson happy, but mainly because the owner’s own child could eat them with confidence, so there was no need to worry about the hygiene and freshness of the ingredients.

After the grandma and grandson, several more customers came one after another to buy buns. When faced with questions from customers, Lin Momo would carefully introduce the different variants of her buns to them.

She talked and sold buns until her mouth felt a little dry. Lin Cheng gently tapped her head.

“Ah,” Lin Momo covered the place where her head was knocked on, looked at Lin Cheng and suddenly asked a little nervously, “Did I remember wrong?”

“Just a little bit silly,” Lin Cheng said.

Lin Momo: “….” Was she disliked by her dad??

Seeing the girl’s aggrieved look, Lin Cheng was secretly amused.

“Sit on the tricycle and don’t run around,” Lin Cheng told Lin Momo then turned and walked towards the small shop on the other side of the bridge.

Lin Cheng bought a marker pen in the store and asked the boss for a piece of scrap cardboard.

Seeing Lin Cheng coming back with these two things, Lin Momo immediately guessed what he intended to do.

Other breakfast stalls have a special cardboard on them with the items and prices written on it—they can do the same.

“I’ll do it, I’ll do it!” Lin Momo volunteered.

“Can you write?”

“Yes!”

Lin Cheng thought that although Lin Momo went to school later than other children of the same age, she’s actually in third grade now and seemed to know a lot of words already.

Lin Cheng handed the pen and cardboard to Lin Momo.

Lin Momo followed the styles of the other stalls and wrote the variants of their steamed buns on the left side of the cardboard and put its price on the right side.

After thinking about it, Lin Momo also drew a schematic diagram next to the name of each type of bun to show the shape.

The style of painting was a bit funny but very expressive.

With this new menu list—as expected—more customers came to buy buns at their stall.

This morning, Lin Momo and Lin Cheng prepared a total of five big steamers of buns. In one morning, they sold a total of two and a half steamers.

This quantity was already much better than the dire situation that Lin Momo worried about where they were not able to sell anything, but compared to the booming business of the other breakfast stalls, their business still seemed to be a bit miserable.

Lin Momo counted the money they earned from selling steamed buns. Including both the mobile phone payments and the cash on hand, the total was 78 yuan. It was still far from their target for this week.

Lin Cheng raised his eyebrows when he saw Lin Momo with her head buried in her hands, picking at the money and counting it again.

“I’ll go out again in the evening,” he told her.

According to their temporary stall schedule, they can also set up stalls from 7pm to 11pm in the evening.

It’s only that the buns may not sell so easily at night.

Lin Cheng was busy thinking about how to sell the remaining buns.

“Let’s go.” Looking at the time, Lin Cheng took Lin Momo away.

… …

Back at their residence, Lin Cheng borrowed a large, flat-bottomed iron skillet from the landlord and planned to change the buns sold at night into fried buns.

After the originally weird-shaped buns were put into a pan and fried, they looked just like the pan-fried buns sold in ordinary shops.

In the evening, Lin Cheng loaded up their buns and set off from the residence. Lin Momo also wanted to go, but Lin Cheng didn’t take her with him.

The situation at the night market was much more complicated than during the day. Instead, Lin Cheng temporarily entrusted Lin Momo to the care of the landlady.

The landlady took Lin Momo in for dinner and wanted to take Lin Momo to watch TV with her, but Lin Momo couldn’t sit still at all.

“Where are you going?” the landlady said, seeing Lin Momo bemoaning things and about to go out, she hurriedly stopped her.

“I’m going to wait for my dad.”

“Your dad has been out for less than half an hour. He won’t come back so early. You can sit here with peace of mind,” the landlady told her.

Lin Momo still stood by the door and did not speak.

Seeing this, the landlady had no choice but to say, “Then you go down and wait, but don’t run too far.”

“Okay.”

Lin Momo brought a stool downstairs, sat by the entrance of the first floor, and with her chin on her hands, waited silently for Lin Cheng to come back.

Just as Lin Momo was staring in a daze at a few ants marching by her feet, a subtle rolling sound caught her attention.

Lin Momo turned her head and saw a small thing rolling out of an alley not far away, spinning around a few times, and then lying flat on the ground.

The thing shimmered under the streetlamp.

Lin Momo walked over and took a look, very curious, only to realize that it was actually a one-yuan coin!

Lin Momo picked up the coin and looked around, but she didn’t see anyone. Instead, she saw another one-yuan coin not far away.

Lin Momo walked over and picked up the coin. Looking forward, there was another coin.

Continuing forward this way, after only a short distance away, Lin Momo has already picked up seven or eight coins.

Looking at the coins in her hand, Lin Momo showed a puzzled expression.

Not only her, but the audience in the livestream channel were also very confused at this time.

[Why are there so many coins in this place? ]

[Did someone accidentally drop it? I was like this again when I was in elementary school. I went out carrying a handful of coins from home, but I didn’t notice that my pocket was leaky, and I ended up losing it all the way. ]

[It’s possible, I’ve experienced this situation too. ]

[Or is it deliberately played by the program team? ] Someone guessed.

However, this speculation was quickly overturned by others.

[How is it possible, given the piss-poor performance of this dog show crew, do you think they would be so kind? ]

[That is true, as long as the program team even exerts a bit of effort, it wouldn’t have allowed Lin Cheng and Lin Momo’s family to turn from a parent-child reality show into a survival show.]

[Is it possible that they are Lin Cheng’s fans?]

After all, in the other livestream channels, there have been cases where fans sent supplies in various secretive and creative ways while the dad was working with his baby.

[Although I don’t want to say this, but do you think Lin Cheng has fans?]

The main part of the show has not yet been aired. In the previous trailer, Lin Cheng’s shots were almost all cut out, and the few clips left which showed Lin Momo were almost all edited. So, at present, except for those who watched the livestream channel—and don’t even talk about the passers-by—only a few could recognize the father-daughter duo of Lin Cheng and Lin Momo.

[Also, if it was really the show crew or fans, why not just put out a hundred-dollar bill? What is the use of only a few coins? ]

T/N: I now have serious doubts about what the Lin family’s steamed buns look like. Never mind what the dia dinosaur is, but I searched what a Baru beast was and google spat this out from Digimon:

Footnotes

While technically you can eat steamed buns any time of the day, they are mostly consumed for breakfast.fried buns are not deep fried; they’re pan heated just enough to give them crispy bottoms.
