Chapter ?679 Guilt And Regrets

,m Damien's biggest fear was losing the people he loved again and having to go through the same suffering he once endured, especially the guilt, regret, sadness, and loneliness.

But right when he was unconsciously dipping into his painful memories, he felt a gentle yet mystical presence wrapping his eyes from behind.

His surroundings suddenly dissolved into a pure white space, and he felt as if his mind was slipping into another reality.

It was only a second later he realized that it was Luna's hands covering his eyes while a figure began to form before him, which slowly transformed till it resembled Ruthren.

Damien took a deep breath upon seeing his figure as he remembered the situation Ruthren put him in.

"Look at what the cat dragged in…The boy who overestimated his capabilities," Ruthren chuckled as he stroked his chin with a contemptuous look.

Damien curled his lips as he took a deep breath.

"I am just a mortal, perhaps gifted and superior compared to the weaklings in our continent. But you…You not only are the successor of a primordial god, but you also absorbed the Origin Seed of my Master…a True God. But despite all that, you still lost like the loser you are."

"No…I didn't…" Damien said with clenched teeth.

"Yes, you did. You may be still breathing but remember what is going on outside. The Forsaken could be considered to be finished, especially since I killed Marvin, one of the very few who had enough power to be some threat to me."

Damien grimaced as memories of all those rotten corpses of the Forsaken people flashed in his mind, and even the fact that Marvin's corpse was turned to dust.

"No, no. The funniest thing is that you promised your wives that you would make them happy not too long ago, but instead, you let them witness one of the greatest tragedies in their lives. Lily lost her grandfather, Reva lost most of her people, and Yuria's father would never be the same. Your wives are broken for good now."

"No…stop it…" Damien muttered as his fists quivered.

"Nobody will ever be the same, and they come to hate you for it since if it were not for you, all those people might have been alive. I wouldn't have gone this far if not for you standing in my way."

"That's not true…You already made everyone's lives miserable and would have done worse," Damien said in a seething tone.

"Really? And you think you never made anyone's lives miserable? Did you conveniently forget what happened in your past life? Everyone who loved you suffered a miserable fate worse than death all because of you. Sofie would have been alive had you not been in her life. I am sure they must be regretting ever meeting you in their afterlives. Who is to say the same won't happen to any or all of your wives in this life? Whatever you touch dies, Damien. Perhaps this is why the Anti-God chose you. How fitting."

"I swear…I will tear your tongue out…" Damien said as his voice shook in guilt and resentment but then he thought about a reality where Sofie and the other girls had never met him. Would their lives really have been better if not for him?

Even Yuria might have lived on peacefully with her family in her past life if not for him. Maybe he was just a source of bad luck for everyone he loved.

Just when Damien was about to have his soul drown in a dark pool of self-blame and despair, he felt three different hands grabbing his arms, trying to pull him up.

"Damien, what are you doing?? You are freaking us out. Don't do this. I came across different lifetimes for you. We slept, we fought, and bled together. There is no way in hell I am letting you go," Yuria's determined voice sounded beside him as she firmly grabbed onto his hands, trying to pull him up.

"Damien, you can't leave us alone. If you go away as well, then my life will no longer have any meaning. You were the only one who showed me what it really means to live and what to live for. You are the reason I still want to see a tomorrow," Reva's cool yet resolute voice echoed as half of his body came out of the dark pool.

A pair of soft hands grabbed his upper arms as Lily whispered into his ear, "Please never blame yourself for what happened. My ancestor would have died with regrets had you not saved his life by getting rid of that poison. You gave both of us hope and happiness…more than we ever dreamed of. But this time, we are here for you. Let us save you."

"You all…" Damien felt a lightening sensation in his mind as a warm feeling spread across his heart. He slowly climbed out of the dark pool, which was evaporating away, as he realized what a fool he was to think that he could just give up on himself and think that his loved ones wouldn't want him.

He remembered the moments in his past life when Sofie, Talia, Nathasia, and all those other girls told him how glad they were to meet him, and even in their final moments, they died for him. How could he have forgotten their feelings and given up after all the sacrifices they made for him.

"I am glad you all reached out to me…I am sorry if I worried you all," Damien said apologetically as he hugged all three of them with a soft smile, feeling grateful for having these three in his life.

Lily, Reva, and Yuria smiled in relief as they hugged him back firmly.

"What a sore sight. You pathetic pack of fools think that it is all over just because of hugs and some talk of hope and happiness? Death is waiting for you all, right outside this island. It is only a matter of time before you all break," Ruthren said with a scornful scoff.

Damien narrowed his gaze as he raised his hand towards Ruthren, "Not before I destroy your soul in hell," As he said this, a jet black lightning bolt escaped from Damien's fingertip before it annihilated Ruthren's figure into oblivion.
